    You say you don't know much about Australia, and yet your Crown Princess Mary is an Aussie! Mary met Frederik in a pub (Bar) in Sydney in 2000, and the rest is history. She was probably listening to Jimmy Barnes, or Cold Chisel while sitting in that pub. She is undoubtably a Chisel fan, as we all are. So, you guys are practically Aussies!!

    All the original members were there. The son was written by the late Steve Prestwich (the drummer). RIP Steve.

    Great reaction to a great song, thanks guys. I strongly recommend "Bow River" from the same show - the Ringside tour - rather than the official video. The Ringside version is far superior, everyone will tell you the same. Cheers from Far North Qld

    Great reaction, well done. If you haven't already done so you may want to listen to John Farnham's version of this song. It is absolutely brilliant. The live version , The last time concert. You also must for your own delight see him play Help, the Beatles song, as well as Your the Voice both from the show with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. They will blow you away.

    I can assure you that Jimmy Barnes is a genuine nice guy. I have met him and been to several Cold Chisel concerts.
    He is very much loved in Australia.

    Just watched your reaction to our fabulous Cold Chisel, as other have said it was written by the drummer Steve Prestwich RIP mate miss you. You MUST react to Bow River (written by Ian Moss the guitarist) from the same concert you will really enjoy it. Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss tend to share the vocals but all the band do sing. Glad you are now delving into our Chisel so enjoy.
    Jimmy is currently recovering from hip and knee surgery so heal fast Jimmy miss you mate.

    Just a thing you ought to know…. While Cold Chisel were popular in Australia…. They did tour New Zealand, UK, U.S and Germany…. Their is footage of songs from Germany….. they appeared on the German show Rockpalast…. And the DVD from this show was released in the 90’s.

    Wild Thing is meant to be wild. As feral as a band can be.
    For the live Wild Thing in the 1980,s , Jimmy Barnes ( Barns ) was as wild and feral as he could be.
    When the War is Over is a ballad about the pain of breaking up..... the WAR between 2 people as their love breaks down.
    The pain that follows...... there is nothing wild or feral here, just remorse, memories and pain.

  • @wren1960
    @wren1960 Před rokem +3

    The drummer Steve Prestwich wrote it he is there sitting there shaking the shaker what ever it's called. Also your Princess Mary would know this song I would also most put my house on it. She would have grown up on Jimmy Barnes whether she liked his music or not is another thing but it was one the radio all the time. Australia has not had a war. But we go to war when Britain goes to war or America. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

    This band was one of the most respected bands in Australia during the 80s. Their peak was before the internet & social media. I can't say that if the band went overseas more often, if that would of made an impact globally for them then, as it did with ACDC or INXS. But if you think of the style of music that was coming out in the 80s...

    There's a cover of this song by another Australian legend that has probably one of the most passionate and skillfully delivered vocals of it ever. It's by John Farnham, who we call "Farnsey" or "The voice". We talk of "Farnesy and Barnesy" as icons of Australian music. Jimmy Barnes you know. John you should. Here's the version I'm referring to: czcams.com/video/BekbvlLzMWc/video.html

    Barnes ‘scream’ is controlled. His range is incredible. He has a ‘soul deep’ album. It’s not a scream. It’s his range and how he controls it. The more you watch, the more you’ll see. He is a great mate of John Farnham. Different styles. Try music video of ‘Something is wrong with my baby’. Collaboration with the two GOATS.

    I've subscribed solely on the basis of your Cold Chisel reactions. Cold Chisel really have two lead singers as you will discover but Jimmy is definitely the front man. All members of the band wrote songs but most were written by the keyboard/piano player, Don Walker...and yes you are right, despite being a few years older than the other band members, Don has hardly changed at all. Enjoy the ride.

    It’s very important to pick the “right” versions of songs (especially Jimmy Barnes/Cold Chisel/John Farnham). I get the whole “surprise reaction” bit, but reacting to the wrong version is always a disappointment. No doubt some Aussie subscribers here can point you in the right direction.

    • @jamussmyth1612
      @jamussmyth1612 Před rokem +2

      BTW, Australians soldiers have fought in every major global conflict of the past 100+ years (but never on our own soil). WW1 & 2 in particular, and every conflict since (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and others). In WW1, Australians and New Zealanders suffered the highest casualty rates (per capita) of any nation on earth. Our countrymen's blood soaked European soils in defence of YOUR liberty.

      @Mrmikey0909 Před rokem +1

      @@jamussmyth1612 Wow, nice rudeness. By all means tell them some relevant facts but no need to be arrogant or rude. The Dutch also fought to defend their liberty, as best as they could. You are in their home on this page.

    • @jamussmyth1612
      @jamussmyth1612 Před rokem +1

      @@Mrmikey0909 Wow, nice ignorance of history. The Dutch remained neutral during WW1. Meanwhile, it was our blood being spilt on the European battlefields. It’s not a matter of “arrogance or rudeness”, it’s a matter of FACT.
      The Dutch surrendered in WW2 five days after Germany invaded. Only a minority of the population resisted to start with. Later in the war that changed. Have you never heard of the “Velvet Glove”? Or the fact that 70% of the Jewish population in the Netherlands were killed in WW2 (even higher than in Belgium or France)?
      We were back there again in WW2, spilling more of our young mens blood, despite living half a world away. And heaps of blood it was.
      Ignorance of history ensures it repeats itself. Mikey, you are a prime example of that. Instead of a simple “Thankyou”, we get called “Rude and Arrogant”. Lest we forget. And we won’t.
