Sadly he was taken from us suddenly in 2011, a brain tumour. Cold Chisel benefited from having two oustanding singers: Lead guitarist Ian Moss, who has a very bluesy voice; and lead singer Jimmy Barnes, who is more rock n' roll and soul. "Chisel" also contained one of Australia's most highly regarded songwriters in keyboardist Don Walker. This wasn't one of his songs. Cold Chisel forged their reputation in the same tough "pub rock" scene as their contemporaries AC/DC. Chisel's cover of "Wild Thing" gives you a sense of that (it's very "full-on").
The other guy was Jimmy Barnes. When jimmy became a solo artist his band continued on under the name of Cold Chisel. Moss and Jimmy are good friends. Moss was sitting on the chair.
The band actually broke up completely and ceased performing in late 1983. They reformed in the late 90s with the release of The Last Wave of Summer album, and all band members have continued to have solo careers and been involved in other projects but Cold Chisel has never performed without any of its living members taking part.
I think insisting on live Cold Chisel is fine for particular songs. For one, I believe Cold Chisel - Wild Thing (Last Stand) should be watched. Still so young but somehow so much older (young lovers learning quickly about dealing with their differences). How can I go home and not get blown away (how can I walk away from this and live with the consequences of leaving a good thing). Try to hold a trace of what it was back then (hold on to the feelings at the start of the relationship). Songs are so often metaphorical and designed to be interpreted in different ways.

So whenever you're doing an Aussie act, you usually can't go wrong with doing a live performance. It's a beautiful song, and it's has so much emotion, and no it's not about a relationship breakdown. It actually perfectly describes the disorientation facing soldiers returning from war!
