  • I have a set of videos about a soft-top installation on a TR6, but they are too old so it is time to go through the process again.

Window cleaner works well as a lubricant when installing rubber molding. And it evaporates after. 😉

Beautiful non standard colour. And, the usual high quality workmanship by Elin.

That colour really suits the TR6.
On another subject, I am currently watching the latest episode of Electric Classic Cars on CZcams and one of their latest projects is a beautifully restored Triumph Vitesse.

Another great video Elin, thanks! I'm glad to see that you are 'training' Rusty to be your top installation assistant. Your 'tug-o-war' games with him in the yard will pay big dividends when it comes time to stretch the new top over the frame; he chomps down on the front, while you pull from the back! I'm sure the owner won't mind some 'dog slobber' on his new top as long as it is good and tight. lol

So far, so good Elin.. I confess that here in the UK when I was working on soft tops cars of all descriptions I never messed with them. We had a couple of local upholsterers that specialised in making and fitting replacement soft tops. Had you and You Tube been about back then (1960' & 70's), I'd have probably had a bash at it as you show the detail and teach it all very precisely.

Well done. The details are the difference between an amateur and professional.

I am in the process of doing this myself right now. Great video. I too have used seat belts for the strapping of the frame. A previous owner has repaired my hood in the past but has used various different size bolts for the frame, spacing out the extra length. I will revisit that later!

Hi Elin, just been watching some seriously yellow coloured skies over New York on the news over here, they say its coming from forest fires over in Canada. Hope you are all ok over there.
My thoughts on painting fabric is that some of it will come off over time, it does look good though.
Look forward to seeing the next installment. Have a great week!!

I’m intrigued that you didn’t fit the chrome header rail first. Does that not change the tension of the hood frame and therefore the fit to the side windows? You’re brave taking these tops on. I’d be too scared to make a mistake, with no way of backing out. 🙂

I kept the header off as long as possible to avoid scratching it. It doesn't change the fit of the frame.
I was scared with the first one too, but I found it looks more complicated than it actually is. It is scarier when you have to make your own top from scratch and I've done that too :) For a Citroen DS19 convertible and for a Scout international. Both turned out great, but it was way before I started filming unfortunately.

Thanks for this video, i have to replace my soft top on my triumph Vitesse MKII and it's pretty the same, so it 'll be very helpfull.

I see that this is a car that came from the factory with the hardtop installed. These models didn't have the tonneau snaps on the door and I think the fittings are also missing on the dash pad.
