We were there. We had seats behind home plate some were close and you think man that could go either way. Some of the calls were so far off it just isn’t what you expect at a professional level.

I am afraid that Angel Hernandez is now setting the precedent for way too many other MLB umpires when it comes to gross incompetence in calling balls and strikes. This year, I have witnessed entire MLB umpire crews successfully umpiring in the same wretched manner that Angel Hernandez does. They are negatively impacting the game and making the strongest case ever to be replaced by technology. I am used to seeing a few bad calls per game. Now it has grown to a few bad calls every inning. And the umpires seemingly don't care that they have been infected with the Angel Hernandez Sucks virus. They lie to the players and managers on live TV while looking them in the eyes. I would fire myself as an umpire if I sucked as bad as many of them do nowadays. Bring on the high tech strike zone. They review close plays on the bases, so we may as well start getting the strikes and balls correct.

Honestly, looking at that, I'd say the guy has vision loss in his right side peripheral and he's not seeing where it is until the catcher brings it back in, and since that's where he first saw it, he's calling it a strike.

Let’s clarify one thing. His current strike zone is acceptable in NCAA, high school and below but definitely not MLB. However I can’t explain him missing the obvious strikes. I was at a Brewers game a few years back against the Diamondbacks with Corey Knebel pitching and Angel behind the plate. He missed many strike calls directly over the plate and Knebel was barking at him about it and I think Counsell got ejected for arguing lol nobody is safe with him around

Let’s clarify one thing. His current strike zone is acceptable in NCAA, high school and below but definitely not MLB. However I can’t explain him missing the obvious strikes. For those critics who don’t agree I have umpired at ALL these levels for 40 years. He might need to retire if he can’t call the current acceptable MLB strike zone?

I was at a Brewers game a few years back against the Diamondbacks with Corey Knebel pitching and Angel behind the plate. He missed many strike calls directly over the plate and Knebel was barking at him about it and I think Counsell got ejected for arguing lol nobody is safe with him around
OR a very, very, very bad day on the mound.
It isn't always that way. He is diverse. He is just as capable of calling perfectly good pitches Balls and infuriating pitchers and catchers.
