      Having a repulsion to drugs is not a bad thing! Many people see how it destroys and end lives and choose to be very strict against it. Also as someone who was unknowingly given an edible it is HELL. I was able to understand it was an edible pretty quick based on symptoms but during that time you don’t feel ‘calm and chill’ you are freaking out because your body feels like it’s shutting down and on adrenaline at the same time. Also I’ve never been more suicidal than during my time intoxicated it’s really miserable, I can’t imagine if you didn’t know what was happening.

    • @user-om7ft2ms8r
      @user-om7ft2ms8r Před 14 dny

      @@Kheays lot to unpack here. First let me say nobody should have given you an edible without your knowledge. It’s a stupid prank and shouldn’t be done to a person who doesn’t imbibe.
      It sounds like you are the type of person that gets paranoid from weed. This is very common, happens to many people but as you can see from the story it’s perfectly safe for a child to consume. Whereas a kid gets into a bottle of aspirin and they can die. What happened to you is wrong.
      Secondly, weed isn’t a drug. It is a sacred plant humans have used and primates have evolved with over literally millions of years. There is an excellent channel here on CZcams called SciShow and they recently came out with an episode that talks about how not only “us” but many animals have evolved over time with cannabinoid receptors in their brains. It is a very good episode.
      I have been sober a long time now, I never drank but did mine and everyone else’s share of drugs and ya drugs are bad, m’kay, apologies, couldn’t resist, but at the end of the day it comes down to the person. I of course don’t know you, but let’s say you like a beer, mixed drink or glass of wine every now and again. This must be reiterated, that 12 pack, bottle of liquor, or bottle of wine could be deadly to a 9 year old but that same 9 year old would have to eat an impossible amount of weed before it became even toxic let alone life threatening. This has gotten very long, I apologize, I’ll close this out and if you wish to continue talking feel free to respond. I would advise though, look into some of the legit studies that are finally taking place for this plant. The hemp plant is phenomenal and something we have evolved to use.
      Ps. I just wanted to state again, what happened to you, without your knowledge was wrong and stupid. Nobody should ever imbibe without knowing.

    • @PhileasLiebmann
      @PhileasLiebmann Před 18 dny +45

      Yeah, that and also even if it wasn't, can you really blame the girl for trying to match the energy when she thought everyone else was high? Everybody knows that, unless you are a very specific type of person, being the only one at the party who's not high is not fun.
      That's the difference between high and drunk. Being the only one at the party not drunk, that is always extremely funny.
      Even if she was actually consciously faking it, she was just trying to fit in and that's not like a character flaw that you should try to "expose" someone for. It's just really weird and petty. Like they can just not hang out with her.

      I learned the opposite because of proper education. School and TV Shows taught me that Alcohol leads to acting weirdly, puking, blacking out (forgetting things), etc. A drunk in the family tried to peer pessure me but that didn't change anything. So if the kid ends up with alcohol abuse in the future, it's not ONLY because of the bad parenting.

I've heard of all their party days, and they've heard lightly detailed stories of my current party days. Every once in a while I'll come in Sunday morning hungover with 4 hours of sleep and they absolutely love it. You bet your ass they're all gonna tease the shit out of me for being a young idiot.
    Anyways, that last story really hit. Very wholesome. Made me smile🙂

    You CAN explain why people drink alcohol to children who are curious. At a wedding last summer when a little nephew asked me I said something like, “you know how if you eat candy and it can make you hyper? Drinking beer can change the way adults feel too. But what happens if you eat toooo much candy? You get sick, right? and that is the same way with adults drinking and sometimes they can get sick if they drink too much. Just like candy isn’t healthy for your body, it’s ok to have a small amount like on Halloween or your birthday. It’s the same with drinking beer.” Then you can explain that beer and other alcohol shouldn’t be used by kids because it isn’t good for growing bodies just like coffee. This can be a good way to explain it to children without glorifying alcohol or scaring kids, and teaching about moderation.

As someone with autism, I’m almost always putting on a bit of a front because I’m afraid of embarrassing myself. I usually try to read the room and match the vibe of the people around me the best I can. Some people see “fakeness” as some kind of attention seeking manipulation tactic. As someone who works with kids K-12 it’s always been a red flag to me when someone says “I don’t sugarcoat my words around kids.” It’s code for “I’m too much of an immature jackass to bother explaining something in an age-appropriate way, and it’s your fault for my behavior.” I never discourage the kids from asking questions, and I don’t believe in just ignoring topics you’re uncomfortable with. HOWEVER, all topics should be discussed in an age-appropriate manner, and the times when you can’t fully explain it to them that’s when you say something along the lines of “I’m not the best at explaining this” or “It would take too long to go over everything unfortunately” or “Yknow, I don’t actually know. Maybe we can come back to that topic later.” Kids understand that there’s a time and place for everything, and it’s really not that hard to approach something in an age-appropriate way.
    In terms of how to explain alcohol to a 6yo I would’ve probably said something like “It’s a drink only for adults because when you’re really young and little it can be very bad for you. When you’re an adult it’s easier for your body to handle it.” But you guys also made a good point that it’s important to express that everything should be done in moderation.

I've already kinda given him the talk about how alcohol is something that's OK for adults, but not for kids (he knows that), but I've also given him the "and when you're a teenager, you might have some of your friends wanting to drink alcohol, too. That's not a good thing, necessarily, because your brain isn't done developing, however, if you and your friends drink at some point never EVER get behind the wheel of a car! Or get in with someone who has been drinking. If you get into that kind of situation and you're scared, CALL me! I'm not gonna act like everything is OK with that, but I will make sure you and your friends get home safe". I'll admit, I don't see a point in demonizing alcohol completely, but I come at it more as a "when you're old enough, it's OK to drink every now and again, but you have to know your limits and you still have to make sure you stay safe! My cousin decided he'll wait until he's 21-25 before he starts drinking. 😂

And when I was 15, I was allowed to have 1 beer/smirnoff ice on the family camping trip/family party. By the time I turned 21, the only thrill there was to alcohol was being able to buy it. I never really felt the need to go and sneak a drink with my friends or anything because for years, alcohol wasn't some taboo thing. After her friend got home, the father of her friend called asking "what the hell did you do?!" Turns out, it was the chocolate Ex-Lax... my mom was being polite, but set off a toilet bomb for her friend when she got home.

      @@fzlagges5849As a mature adult the OP should've at least thought of having anything in her home that shouldn't be near a kid and immediately think "Did I leave any weed out?" She compared it to wine, but you also shouldn't leave an open glass of wine in your home with an unsupervised child.
      Still, the child should be taught not to go just eating and drinking whatever they find in a house, even a relative. It's not like the gummies were an unopened bag of M&Ms.

    The weed wedding story is insane. This whole situation could have been avoided but the bf shot himself in the foot. It was a series of dumb decisions on his part:
    1) didnt tell the mom that he’d be going to a weed wedding and to switch weekends
    2) when the babysitter fell through, he didn’t tell OP and instead thought that he could change their plans last minute to cover his embarrassment
    3) assumed he could just bring his FOUR children to a WEED wedding uninvited when he himself is already a plus 1 (any wedding this would be unacceptable)
    4) got mad that OP still went without him and went silent for 4 days straight instead of communicating. He only apologized when she confronted him in person and after the mom chewed him out.
    With so many red flags about communicating, planning and ego, I’m glad OP left him.

    • @johnplaysgames3120
      @johnplaysgames3120 Před 20 dny +21

      Exactly. All of that. The biggest red flag of all, imo, is that the ex-wife is the one who contacted the gf to patch things up. When the ex-wife has to act like the guy's mommy bc he's too immature to reach out himself, you start to understand at least one probable reason they got divorced. Imo, OP dodged a huge bullet on that one. She would've ended up as the step-mother to not only the four kids but also the guy. At one point in the story, I wondered if this was why the ex-wife was making such an effort to fix the problem. Like, maybe she's trying to pawn off responsibility for this loser on someone new so she can stop acting like his mother.

    Fun weed story from my family- my mother used to make top-notch homemade edibles and sell them/give them as gifts. One of my uncles was struggling with cancer and his wife had a crippling joint issue ongoing, so my mom offered to send some special cookies to them as a get well soon gift. My aunt agreed. She unfortunately forgot about this exchange before they arrived in the mail. When they arrived, she put all of them on a plate with a few other cookies she had in the house and left them on the table. My uncle ate at least 6 special cookies and then when the weed kicked in, started repeatedly asking my aunt if she smelt gas or if she was sure there wasnt a gas leak. When he tried to insist they needed to call 911 to make sure, she finally asked him why he thought there was a gas leak. He explained why and she asked when this started. As he was responding, she suddenly realized the cookies she had put out and that were noticeably fewer than she had put out MIGHT be the special cookies my mom had sent. She ended up calming my uncle down a bit and calling my mom at home to check. Everyone ended up on speaker phone laughing themselves silly, then my aunt ate one and said they'd be keeping the rest of these in a very safe place.

    I get that alcohol “makes you happy” and whatnot, but like…there’s a difference between wanting that experience temporarily and for fun, and wanting that experience to block out the pain of day-to-day life. Wanting to drink as a way to have fun or be happy isn’t inherently a bad thing-I tend to be a social drinker, because I’m not very good socially and I just have more fun at parties that way. I also sometimes have a few drinks and watch a movie or two to wind down at the end of a day. But the key thing is, I also recognize that I can and do have positive experiences without alcohol, and that plenty of things make me happier than drinking does.
    The guy who told his kid that alcohol is a way to stop thinking and ignore bad feelings definitely has a problem. If he’s not already a full-blown alcoholic, his attitude toward alcohol could definitely lead him in that direction.

    • @maem7462
      @maem7462 Před 19 dny +3

      I agree so much. I drink alcohol mostly socially bc it does help me be more talkative sometimes. I also liked the taste of some. Like you I also know that I don’t need alcohol to have fun or be happy. I have some of my own problems but I don’t use alcohol as a way to try to solve it. I try to work on it myself and with the help of friends sometimes. OP in that story needs therapy instead of beer. Beer only does so much for those thoughts. Maybe he might have an underlying condition that he never got diagnosed for and going to therapy could help him figure that out
