- In this video I hike the very beautiful Big Pine Creek trail to Big Pine Lakes in the Eastern Sierra. This is my first time hiking this trail. My timing is perfect. There are no crowds and the Fall color is off the charts! I make camp at second lake with the majestic Temple Crag in full view.

the only mountains that I have ever hiked are the Sierras. I am displaced and can only hike them now through video tours such as yours. it is wonderful to experience them again. And even though the experience is second-hand it is still soothing and awe-inspiring to view them through another's eyes.

Thank You so much for these Sierra vids the memories just keep flooding back...Love The Big Pine area and when I got into " Bushcraft"...where it's like survival but you do not kill to eat, you pack in food and you make your own shelter I started leaving the tent behind and brought a trail shovel instead. Mostly found natural places to set up my sleeping bag but dug out a few primitive holes in the sides of mountains and covered them with pines bows ( fallen ones of course ) and it really protected me from the cold. I could sleep like a hibernating bear after hiking all day and after my stint in the Army I learned to sleep well just about anywhere .Thanks again Cat , just wonderful. Keep living the good life, Cheers.

I believe you when you say you had a great time. There must be someone you could trust, so you could buddy up to go hiking together. I always say, there's safety in numbers. If any problems or threats arise, you could help each other out. Nature is beautiful. I just wouldn't want someone to harm you in any way. Next time I hope you'll think twice about going at it alone. Happy hiking.
Beautiful colors but brrrrrrr! What a beautiful caterpillar - wonder what kind of butterfly it turns into. Had to laugh - seems like a cheeseburger & shake is sort of a standard after backpack trip meal. Thanks for sharing another adventure.
There is definitely a trade off doing trips during the shoulder season. The upside is crowds are down, the colors are beautiful and there are no mosquitoes. The down side is the days are short, the nights are long and it’s usually pretty chilly/cold overnight in the mountains.
Jim, those caterpillars are all over. The Wooly Bear caterpillar's turn into the Isabella Tiger Moth. I also enjoy taking pics and vids of caterpillars and thus look them up. inaturalist.org is great for putting your photos there to discover what the whatever is. It's free.

Very Nice. Never a Disappointment.
I day-hiked to Black Lake in Nov one year to photograph the ice patterns on the surface of the lake. There is a mahogany bush up there on south-facing slopes that generates these amazing white billowy seed carriers in the fall. You can see them on the trail to Black Lake. I also like your new bookend template where you review some of your favorite vistas at the end of each hike and finish with one with you in the scene. It’s like scrawling “Cat was here” without defacing anything.

Hi Cath, I've so enjoyed your sharing of the Sierra's! I did not know how beautiful they were. You're right about timing, you hit the right week for that amazing color! With the days growing shorter it leaves less time. Glad you kept warm. You spoke about how beautiful it was when you got up and the moon was lighting up the landscape & mountains. Your Sony has amazing low light capabilities and will take "pro quality night images" so next time that happens I strongly suggest you grab your camera, experiment, and have some fun, and it could add another dimension to your adventures! You will find lots of tutorials on CZcams to teach you. Thx for sharing 🥂
