Wendy just started feeling like a completely different character once her voice changed, but I honestly prefer it. Makes her more interesting than just Stan’s innocent love interest.
Doing the voices without insane editing would have done a number on both Matt and Trey's vocal chords, so good thing they went down the editing-in-post-production route, just so they can still keep doing their job as best as they can. Sad but true.
Tbh I like the later voices, it helps along with the evolved writing, animation and portrayal of real world events in making the whole show feel less juvenile.

Crazy to see character voices deepen over time, it just gets harder and harder to strain your chords like that. Julie Kavners (Marge Simpson) voice has gotten so deep that Marge basically sounds like Patty and Selma now.
Cuz butters has always been based on a real person who trey and Matt see and Bully almost everyday 😂 the 4 boys are combinations of trey and Matt along with some of the people they know in their personal lives leaving a lot of free room to write whatever they want about the characters and develop them the way they want , butters has just always been butters irl, butters irl just never changed. Ike is a baby so there’s not much you can develop and you have to replace the actor like every 3 years

It's actually pretty cool when you think about it. When the series started, Eric was a crude-talking squawking, swearing and sometimes incomprehensible kid. But as the series continued, he became more clever, manipulative and well-spoken, fitting with his more elaborate plans and schemes. It's sort of like Buzz in Home Alone 1 VS Buzz in Home Alone 2.
I actually prefer butters newer voice, season 4-26, which i guess isn’t that much newer but I prefer the direction Matt went with for butter voice after developing his character a bit more.
We need to remember the voices changed to a slightly lower pitch when they went to the 5th grade. They got older, sort of, so naturally their voices pitched a tone lower. I miss the old voices though.
