  • This is the ArtsGames Global Launch RIo performance of Alex Depue and Miguel De Hoyos. Listen for a great interpretive Rock version of "Black Magic Woman" followed by the classical "Rondo Alla Turca" by W.A. Mozart...
Alex DePue began studying classical violin at age five. He won his first university-level competition at age 10, and later (age 14) won a competition that entitled him to perform at Carnegie Hall as Concertmaster for the National Guild Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Joseph Silverstein. Despite his classical training, Alex became interested in fiddling at age seven and began competing in “fiddle” contests. In 2007, Mr. DePue joined legendary rock guitarist Steve Vai for a world tour that took him across North America, South America and Europe. Alex recently teamed up with Mexican guitarist Miguel De Hoyos. Their unique international sound has been praised by elected politicians and officials in the country of Mexico.
Miguel De Hoyos began guitar lessons at the age of 11 in his hometown of Monterrey, Mexico. At the age of 13, he entered Muevo Leon State University, studying toward a degree in classical guitar. By 1980, De Hoyos was recognized and selected as the number one choice guitarist by artists and singers visiting Monterrey. In 1990, Miguel De Hoyos founded a band, La Guitarra Por El Mundo, comprised of three guitarists, bass, and percussion, and booked the group throughout Europe. In 2007, De Hoyos met American violin sensation Alex DePue, and together they formed DePue/DeHoyos. The duo has performed throughout Mexico and the United States, and has released one recording, Underground Whispers.

I saw Miguel perform at Hotel La Mision in La Mision, Baja California, and the intimate ocean view setting was a perfect venue to enjoy his rich and velvety voice, accompanying his masterful guitar skills. Miguel is truly a gifted musician and talented performer, leaving it all on the stage in long, exuberant sets from his extensive repertoire. What makes his Hotel La Mision engagements particularly special, are the late sets, when Miguel might possibly be plied with one of the bar's superb cocktails, to take requests for the classics we all like to sing along with at the end of a music-filled evening. Go early and enjoy romantic sunset dining before the performance...you can always stay in one of the hotel's beautiful rooms if the romance or the cocktails overtake you! If you have an opportunity to see this skilled and talented performer in La Mision, don't pass it up.
