    I'm a Brit and this was all over our papers and other news. I'd just like to say I'm disgusted, genuinely disgusted. I'm so confused that a man as stupid and bigoted as Trump could get this far in a supposed super power. I'm horrified that even when he says something as hideous as this, some of your citizens STILL support him. If he said that here he would be forced from his position, unquestionably. In fact most likely he would have been long before now. Greatest country in the word? That's not even remotely true, not any more.

      @seagk1343 Před 8 lety

      +Jack Queen I'm an American btw, I agree. America is great and unique but best in the world? Saying this now is insane to even consider. It is worse that as an American that people legitimately believe in white supremacy and that abortion should be illegal - illegal in any sense, this includes teen rape victims that are too scared to look for the help and support that they need in a timely matter. Granted this is a worst case scenario, it can happen and the law should be ready for the worst. NOT TO MENTION getting an abortion is basically impossible in some states now, look at John Oliver's Last Week Tonight segment.

    • @jhartmggc
      @jhartmggc Před 8 lety

      You miss the point, although I would not vote for Trump I have followed this election campaign closely and find that mainstream news in America is so biased, takes comments out of context and twist the facts. The are many issues you could challenge Trump on but instead news media go for sensationalism. Trump will make a unpractical statement about temporarily banning Muslims from potential insecure countries until better security measures are put in place and the media will say Trump is a racist because he wants to ban Muslims forever for no reason except their religion. Bush had a valid argument about isolating friendly Muslims countries but the media ignores rational arguments and goes for the Trump is a racist line.

    • @thesteve1042
      @thesteve1042 Před 8 lety

      +John Hart to even consider banning people of a religion for any amount of time is outrageous. Why don't Catholics get banned for the church sex scandal or groups like the ira, or how about banning Protestants for the nazis and kkk, or Jews for Zionism. That won't happen and shouldn't happen. That statement he said was as clear as day and as bigoted as it possibly could have been. Not to mention how impossible it would be to implement.

    • @jackqueen1
      @jackqueen1 Před 8 lety

      To be fair you all have a point on some level in my opinion. seagk1343 I have seen many John Oliver things regarding Trump and he's absolutely right about pretty much everything. As well as this, I think the irony of Trump saying he will make America great again whilst simultaneously destroying it has expired comically. Even the fact that you agreed with me regarding america not being the greatest country in the world and not attacking suggests the influence he has had. ***** It is outrageous, and the first time he said that (and we knew about it over here again due to his ignorance leading him to think he could comment on our country regarding the issue) I said that as well. I mean practically speaking it's ridiculous, never mind morally. You could say the exact same for his beloved "Wall" that he wants to build, considering how many illegal immigrants don't even enter that way (most travel by boat) and yet it will cost how much? And AGAIN you could say the same regarding his terrorist family killing policy considering 90% of terrorists families aid in efforts to capture said relations. We have a version of Trump over here. called Nigel Farage, and he's a joke. As in an actual punchline. He has little to no power or influence and every time he runs he looses by a greater margin. What I don't understand is why is that not happening with Trump over there? Why is he still being allowed to say these things and encourage violent behaviour? Why?

    • @jackqueen1
      @jackqueen1 Před 8 lety

      John Hart +John Hart Yes the media is biased and sensationalist, you're right, but the issue here is not that the media do that - it's that you and other Americans I've talked to don't EXPECT that. I mean why not? They're the media, of course they're going to do that. Personally I think this highlights a lack of critical thinking in America, a lack of critical thinking that allows people like Trump to gain power because he can say whatever he wants and people won't check it, they'll just believe. Maybe that's how fairies get their wings over there, I don't know the reason. I mean are you, as an American I presume, even aware that Trumps plans to create jobs (by slapping 35% tax on goods entering the US from offshore american businesses) will lead to mass inflation and unemployment? Are you aware that his tax plan will increase your national debt by a further $11 trillion by 2026, and raise GDP by 80% in the following decade? I mean why do I know that and I'm not even in America? Because I think critically and let evidence lead me to an opinion. Also a lack of critical thinking can be highlighted by the insistence on religion still not only being a thriving part of the society over there (in which believing blindly is encouraged no?) but influencing legislation such as the abortion issue for example. Why? Why is that happening? Religion, the best example there is of an organization based on no evidence and pure belief, still not only encouraged but almost a social requirement? Also despite the media being sensationalist, they also haven't been wrong - at least in the admittedly limited media press I have seen. I've seen quite a few now and I haven't disagreed. Why? Because all of them, even fox news, are against Trump. I don't think bias is really an issue regarding Trump in mainstream media over there any more, particularly whilst Trump makes it so incredibly easy for them.

    Impressive feat of mental gymnastics by Andrea Tantaros. A less astute observer would just see another example of Trump being stunningly stupid and offensive all by himself, but Andrea thinks the Hillary camp somehow "trapped" Drumpf into being totally unfamiliar with the Constitution, Roe v Wade, or the fact that abortion is legal, and saying stupid, offensive nonsense; all as a clever part of their plot to unleash "their upcoming gender war".
    Who but brilliant Andrea saw the big "upcoming gender war" so far in advance; who else could have known that the candidate (Hillary) that has been a lucrative investment for banks, the oil industry, Monsanto, Wal Mart etc, for decades; the Democratic party corporate insider, is really just softening us all up for her real agenda: the Gender Jihad!? And who knew Hillary's power was so great she can force Trump into saying stupid things (the "trap" she set for him), when she and her campaign isn't even present?

    I really don't believe pro-life people understand the outcome of outlawing abortion or they are just being disingenuous when they say they do not want to punish the mother. Criminalizing something requires a negative consequence to enforce. So if it becomes outlawed and doctors will not do it anymore, what happens when a woman does the abortion themselves??! Do we honestly believe that pro-lifers will not want to punish the mother. We already have evidence to the contrary when women are being prosecuted when miscarriages occur.

    He needs to be able to answer the questions regardless of whether he's "learning as he goes". He doesn't get a free pass to the presidency because he's new. If abortion became illegal, however, it would be because of the determination that an unborn child is considered a person, thus making abortion some form of murder. Thus, the mother would be conspiring to commit murder or whatever with the doctor. Trump saying that she should be punished makes sense under these circumstances, and I am no Trump supporter.

THE democrats, THE MEDIA and the republican party that's a lot on someones plate he corrected it they should let it go . The obama administration which hilary is a major part of bold faced lied to the supreme court and gets caught she needs to go to prison. obama needs to be impeached and tried for treason for arming and aide to our sworn enemies that and releasing ISIS leader and 4 of their top military advisers should be plenty f grounds to try and convict obama NOT ALLOWW HIM ANOTHER 10 MONTHS TO FINISH OFF THIS COUNTRY

      +jinitron i am pro life but just as i wouldn't want anyone to tell me i have to or i can't do something with my body its a woman's choice but if the law states you have a time limit to do it then both the doctor and the woman should have consequences for the doctor suspend their licences for a year and if caught again loose their licences the woman should have to attend classes first offence explaining the whole process of the abortion and if caught again she should not be allowed to have kids . that may seem harsh but so is killing a child twice if she doesn't want it get the abortion with in the time limit the law allows or even better put it up for adoption. Now as far as brain washed if you think that the politicians in Washington have any compassion for anyone but themselves and Obama isn't purposely undermining this country to the point of its destruction , he has all of our rights sewed up in all those executive orders, he released the leader of ISIS and 4 of his top military strategists with out consulting anyone, then he arms and funds them, our sworn enemies that we are at war with. He traded a deserter and a traitor who help kill members of his own squad by explaining what procedures they would and where to place the explosives, he is flooding this country with thousands of Muslims not knowing if they are affiliated with terrorist organizations or where they are really coming from with the majority of them males of fighting age, he gives iran 150 billion dollars and doesn't ask about our prisoners plus gives them the ability to start up their nuclear program again but , with the 150 billion he gave them they can just go buy a nuclear missile, he is forcing the US citizens to get the governments health care after making statements for months and months you can keep your doctor knowing that wasn't true, selling guns to Mexican drug cartels and at the same time trying to disarm he US citizens. They are all criminals with the same agenda and now they finally come out and say that we as citizens have no say on what they do and choose to represent us , and sadly we only find this out because they had to make it public so they can explain the outlandish corruption and illegal actions to keep Trump out of the White House for the sole purpose that he truly wants to try to save this country and isn't bought and paid for like almost every politician in Washington.
      he is a threat to unbelievable power and money that the special interests have , and is a threat to money flow they give all those politicians. If they are all against Trump it cant be just that he is unqualified its because he is not a part of all their corruption and illegal actions. oh if you are at war with someone you don't open your borders and flood your country with the same people you are at war with

      I left this comment on a different video on the Young Turks chanel... but it explains why I agree with him ..
      +the young turks and commentors. I think realistically there isn't a yes or no answer to a question like this. If you look at it from an unbiased point of view you can see how abortions can be both detrimental but also beneficial. On the beneficial side of abortions; if a woman gets pregnant as a result of rape then atleast she doesn't have to live with that "consequence" for the next 18+ years of her life. On the other hand, (from a personal experience) I know of a 18 year old girl who has had 5 abortions in her life already with her first one when she was just 15.. she admitted it herself and laughed it off! She was dating my best friend(21yo) and two of them were with him, both of which he was against. He dated another girl after her who also aborted his baby without any say from him what so ever(although it was her first one she was taking preventative measures like birth control and trying to use condoms in the first place and she wanted to go to school etc and had ambitions in her life that would be just impossible if she had a baby-- and was distraught by the whole experience!). For all three of his pregnancy's he was of sound mind, financially capable and independent and wanted his babies even if the mother didn't want to be involved. I think the solution to this would be that you can have the first one.. no questions asked because we do have to factor in the fact that everyone makes mistakes but every time after you have to obtain abortion via court order, unless the situation is life threatening to the mother similar to how they issue warrants for arrest/search etc. In this way a judge can form an unbiased decision weighing all the factors involved i.e.. the circumstances of the pregnancy, mental stability of the mother and father, and certainly the financial capabilities of the mother and father. In this way perhaps the father can have equal representation on the matter! If it takes two to make a baby, why only one to kill it? Im sorry but the moment my child is growing in another human being it is no longer JUST her body... that child is 50% mine and carrying my genes. This isn't even in the United States... this is in Canada where you can walk in and have an abortion whenever, free of charge with zero consequence & no questions asked ever. I don't think this is a religious debate rather a spiritual and logical one and at the end of the day many of these "pro-life" are hypocrites. they jump fences to defend unborn children meanwhile syrian refugees are turned away, african americans are shot every day, people are unjustly imprisoned and mexicans are kept out via the trump wall. But hey... (sarcastic tone -->)" I'm pro-life so ban abortions and punish women" **just to clarify I'm not saying a 18 year old girl should have kids... but 5 abortions and your only 18.. WTF does it take to learn to use a condom! Some form of punishment should be in order.** Id love to see you guys do an episode evaluating the abortion matter without the "Trump/Political" aspect involved! Anyways I love tyt and keep doing the great work!

    Given Mr. Matthews question was hypothetical, its basis was that if abortion was "illegal". If it was illegal, not only would the one committing it be guilty, the person soliciting the crime would be associated as well. If you solicit someone to commit a crime you are guilty, not a victim. So given the premise of the fictitious question, if abortion was "illegal" both the solicitor and committer would be involved in the crime. If a woman was forced against her will that is outside of the question. There should be punishment for the solicitor of a crime like there is for other crimes. So punishment for the solicitor of crime is not out of the question or unreasonable given the nature of the question.

      Isn't part of illegalizing abortion making that action punishable ? Should the woman who performs an illegal act be subject to a penalty ? That's the heart of the abortion problem. Should it be a law like a traffic violation where the violator gets a penalty? Sometimes these are life and death decisions. Is a human right for a woman to have that choice over her own body? What are the rights of the unborn fetus? Does the mother have a right to abort a fetus that is so far along medical advancements could possibly allow the baby to live? We have politicized this conversation so much I don't think anybody really thinks about it senssibly much at all.

    What he said is that he's pro life. And Chris Mathews posed the hypothetical of if it was banned nationally.

    I don't know how you could ban abortion without sending people to jail. This just brought to light an issue people have ignored and now everyone has to face the truth that banning abortion would have to to result in women being punished.

    The problem is that politicians are fundamentally incapable of simply saying "I don't know.", so when a politician like Trump says something that is incompatible with a supporter's personal view, they have to create this scenario in which their candidate was tricked into saying it. Trump could've easily said "I don't know", and then used the line Scottie said about it being a highly complicated issue. He didn't have to take a solid stance, but he did.
    We see this with other politicians as well. They'll say something on an issue they have no clue about, and then backtrack when they realise they said something bad. I will respect a candidate, or a person in general, if they say "I don't know, but ask me again in a week, and I'll have an educated response for you" as oppose to someone just steamrolling into the wrong position, and then trying to frame it as them being tricked, or forced into saying something.

      +Karn McCloud Sanders is the ONLY one running in the US that has ANY integrity, honesty or compassion. Trust me, I live in one of those "scary" socialist countries, what he's proposing is not pie eyed or unreasonable. The politics in the US have been pushed SO FAR to the right that someone who is considered a regular progressive elsewhere is a radical in the US.

      Last time i checked it takes 2 for a pregnancy to happen. And there are a lot of morons out there who will get a girl pregnant and disappear. What "pro lifers" really want is to punish people for having sex. Thats retardet.

    • @Kereea
      @Kereea Před 8 lety

      +myheartmadeafist Some states are looking into it. A woman whose cocaine habit maybe caused her to miscarry was charged with murder in Mississippi. Another woman who miscarried after accidentally falling down the stairs was investigated over whether or not it was intentional, though eventually not charged. And so on. Why people think anti choice wants to punish women sure is a mystery, though!

    Abortion is the result of self love self interest and the denial of selfless motherly love. If it looks like a baby it's because it is and if you want the right to infanticide then do it but don't call it a right

    • @sagerider2
      @sagerider2 Před 7 lety

      Abortion is often self defense. When your husband or boyfriend starts beating you in the belly after finding out you're pregnant, THEN you can tell us how you bravely took the beatings & gave birth to a dead child. And how proud you are of it. Assuming you survive, of course.
      Or better yet, the child somehow survives, badly damaged unable to walk or talk & you are forced to have joint custody with your loving ex-husband, who will beat you any time he gets drunk, or resents having to pay child support for a child he only half killed.

    • @johnl1630
      @johnl1630 Před 7 lety

      all the great crimes against each other let alone mother against child is justified because of the crimes of the few. Back street abortions killed perhaps 1000's now abortion kills 1000,000's of babies every year. The crimes of the few are used to change the straight and narrow path of the many until the road has become so inclusive as to mean nothing other than selfishness and self righteousness. There will always be the few crimes but these must not over turn the fine balance of humanity and its yearning to justify selfishness and turn selfishness and degradation into virtue.
