Got my black pyrite earlier today with the flick hole and I cannot put this thing down. I absolutely love it and I am still in my budget knife phase.
Really like the wharnie but especially the opening slot.
Also: great review man! Rarely do you get to see the actual disassembly of a knife. Considering I've been flicking this pyrite for the 1st time all day today, I'm very happy to see the insides without taking it apart myself. Great knife. Probably one of the best EDC's on the market under 60 bucks, if not the best.
Here’s a secret. The civivi titanium pocket clip fits the pyrite. I have them on both the black and silver stainless models. Sucks the new titanium model doesn’t come with a milled clip.
Love the wharnie. CJRB is killing it. I gotta go with the new Ekko tho. I'm going to grab a new Vosteed Raccoon. More character than the Pyrite.
The wharny model finally swayed me to pick up a Pyrite and it's a really good budget knife. I'd rather have 14C28N but Artisan spent money to have AR-RPM9 developed so I understand. WMK has a wharny with aluminum frag pattern scales coming in June *at the same price as the stainless handle* and that might be the perfect version because if I have any complaint about the uncoated model it's the stainless handle is kinda slick, but the frag pattern should address that.
I don't mean any disrespect but a lot of these knife CZcamsrs have promoted 14c28n way beyond it's actual quality. It's a low grade budget steel similar to 4116 like cold steel uses. I wouldn't even say it's better than 8cr honestly. AR RPM9 is a powdered 9cr. Basically 9cr Plus. It's going to be much better than the 14c28n
it just depends, one of the caveats to 14c is that its highly heat treat dependent. it can range from straight up bad all the way to fantastic and punching far above its weight. for average mediocre 14c youre definitely right though @@shepherd2148
I don't know if this was a prototype but the ones offered now are titanium scales with metal liners, not a solid slab of titanium

Milled titanium would likely raise the price to over 100$
Which should really go to artisan cutlery, and have the blade in s30v at that point for 150-200$

Maybe a ti wharnny version when they come out but I sold my Pyrite because it got detent lash after a week
Great video man. Will the warny blade fit in the original pyrite micarta and titanium handle one. Wanted to swap the blades so I had the warny on the titanium and micarta handles. Thanks man

How durable is the black coating on the steel ? I'm wondering how easily it scratch ?
Does scratch easily but it will scratch
I got my black Pyrite alt about two months ago and used it as a edc for a month cutting up boxes, opening packages and stuff like that. Recently i was cutting some styrofoam like insulation material and it seems like that got rid of a big portion of the coating around the tip.
I don't really mind it because i like a knife that shows it has been used but i was surprised how easily it got rid of the coating.
Is that Titanium or Stainless Steel on that frame?
The black is steel. The silver is titanium
