    I picked up the qubit last weekend, totally blown away. Civi absolutely figured something out. It's soooo smooth and feels good.
    I ordered the CJRB Pyrite a few days ago, aluminum body, finger flipper. I'm so impressed by it. It was on sale too, 20% off on amazon and got it for $40.00. Totally blown away by it.
    Like you, I had many of the previous generation button locks - civi, kizer, etc... Missing the Malibu still but it's really hard to justify the price tag with out AMAZING the pyrite and quibit are.

      I had a benchmade sbk5000 in my front pocket one day at home depot. I was using one of their tube steel 9 step ladders, and within a few hours I had rubbed a massive groove into the grip scales. That developed into a problem with the spring assist because the grip pannel has a pocket machined in it for the assist spring. Since that day I have avoided knives with aluminum grips. Im sure its an awesome knife though if your not having that problem.

  • @larrydunn4626

    I wanted to like the qubit, but murdered out isn't my style, and the other two options are bright red and bright blue. I've decided for the moment on the WMK pyrite-alt with frag pattern aluminum scales. should drop soon. I actually prefer 14c to rpm9, or nitro v, b/c of tougnness/non-chippiness. I want to not have to worry about using a blade for cutting stuff harder than cardboard, stupid stuff, and whether it would micro chip across the blade. So to me the perfect button lock would be the pyrite-alt w. frag aluminum scales, in 14c.

    Was very impressed with the Pyrite - beautifully balanced knife with the thumb studs. I also like the Vosteed Valkyrie.
    Nobody really talks about the comfort of the buttons though. I find the Civivi indented buttons get tiring after a while and I have to deploy the button with the side of my nail, not the meat of my thumb. Kizer and CJRB though, a lot more comfortable.

  • @9thchamber499
    @9thchamber499 Před rokem +1

    I hear you on the Pyrite's opening action, but what about the closing action? I cant stand how the blade bounces back out a cpl times before closing properly. Vosteed IMO has the superior action because they nailed it all the way around, open and close. Not sure what they are doing different but the action is completely different. Just a shame some of them seem to have issues. I heard they've fixed it since and the newer releases don't have the issue.
    BTW, how did you cut the lines in your steel Pyrite scales. I think it looks pretty good fwiw.

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Před rokem +2

      It doesn’t bounce if you just let go of the button at the right time, same with all of these button locks. The closing action with all these is super nice and smooth.
      I used a dremel with a tiny cutoff wheel to cut the grooves. Not perfect at all, but from a distance it looks good. And it provides good grip, these stainless steel versions are awesome but a little slippery. 🤠

    Just ordered a laser etched quibit for my dad for fathers day, so I'll have a chance to check it out and see how it compares to my conspirator. I don't think he is really a knife guy but we will see if maybe having something like this will change that. I don't have nearly as many buttonlocks as you but have been enjoying my conspirator as a user knife, although I seem to keep rolling the nitro-v. It gets nice and sharp, but maybe it's a little soft for my usage (cutting some softer plants in the garden). Going to be a good knife to practice my KME sharpening skills on.
    It likely won't be as snappy as the qubit, but have you tried the knife center exclusive conspirator? Same style black aluminum handles as the qubit, but blade is S35vn. I have one and the action is better than the regular version, detent is about the same though. However I like the mircarta handle and the titanium deep carry clip I ordered for $15 on etsy for my regular conspirator, so I'll probably just put most of the wear and tear on my original. Then again, they are both pretty cheap compared to my spydercos so they would both make great heavy use knives.
    I think I prefer well designed flipper tab to thumb studs in general, but the conspirator has that nice groove in it so it's nice and fidgety too. I agree the detent could be a bit stronger. Keep up the great reviews. Definatly looking for am edc use knife with a bottle opener. I don't typicaly carry keys anymore, and I do have a spiderco clippy tool standard, but a simple slicy blade with a bottle opener sounds perfect. I'll jave to wait and see if a special version comes out.

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Před rokem

      I have not tried the aluminum Conspirator. That’s interesting, I was curious if they were going to change anything to make the action better. Too bad about the detent though, I wish it was super snappy. I do love aluminum handles though, and the Conspirator is a great overall design.
      I hope your dad likes the Qubit! 🤠

    • @JFlywheel
      @JFlywheel Před rokem +1

      @@doodysdaggers Got the quibit for my Dad, yep, it's snappy! I opened it to change the clip to the straight titanium one. However I was pleasently suprised that the stock clip felt so much better than my other civivis. I think it's going to stay as it offers great retention and does not feel flimsy and cheap like my other civivi knives. I actually like the stock deep carry clip on this model for once. I will be picking one of these up if they come out with some exclusives or special edditions. It's much lighter than the special eddition conspirator, I mean it's smaller sure, but I think allot of the weight reduction is because although the scales are very similar, the conspirator still uses steel liners. I wonder if the linerless knife is part of the changes impacting the action.

Better still, is the Kizer Original! Especially the larger "XL" version in micarta. Light, smooth action, perfect lock, and great blade.
      Kizer button locks are my favorite budget brand. The Original is almost perfect. My Assassin is still one of my favorites even though no one mentions it anymore. the qubit is really really great. absolute featherweight and super thin bladestock. I generally prefer non-metallic handles though.
    The new sheeps-cliffe pyrite in blue gmascus from white mountain is pretty great too.
    As far as the detent goes, honestly... You're shilling a little too hard here. All these budget knives vary quite a lot between each sample. I've had a few different samples of several different models. It's just like liner/frame lock inconsistency... some will have good detents, some will have soft detents. My Qubit has a really outstanding detent and my pyrite has a very weak detent. I also have the conspirator, chevalier and several others. The same can be said for all of these knives... Order 5 of the same model and you'll find all the detents will be a little different on each one. None of these knives are doing anything special or different... You're just getting good or bad QC.

      @@doodysdaggers bud, you're video kinda defines shill. It's fine... that's what youtube product reviewers are there for.
      Anyway, my point is just that individual unit variation makes some people say the pyrite has bad action or bad detent while others think it's the "best budget knife ever" the same goes for civivi or pick your budget brand.
      "act as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others."
      "tries to convince other people to buy something or think something is great "
      You don't necessarily need to have an economic gain in order for that to apply.

    Front flippers make good can openers too. I love front flippers! I love Laconico, I love sheepfoot, so the choice won't be too difficult for me. I'd say the Ekko is barely medium size, the others are borderline minis if you have bigger hands like me (3.75 index finger)

      In 1981 Ford Motor Company invited 12 Chinese Auto engineer's to take a four-day tour of the Ford stamping plant.
      Not sure why Ford chose to do this, but upper management were definitely fully aware the 12 engineers were there to reverse engineer and learn new stamping techniques.
      I guess it doesn't really matter because America was 50% to 65% out of business by 1981 and now 99% out of business today😔.
