I hear you, I feel you. For the last couple of years, the Pro and Pro Max iPhones have been identical except for the Max part. The size part. But this year… this 2020 of years… the cameras are different and even the size differences… are different.
So, if you still can’t decide between the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. If you’re still on the fence. If you prefer the regular Pro size but want that Pro Max camera or battery. If you don’t mind big phones but worry the new Max is just too big. But if you also worry that if you don’t get it, you might just regret it. I’m with you there. Being an older guy competing with younger folk with much better eyes, I have to do everything I can to not give up my ability to work quickly and effectively wherever I am. I’ve been using the XS Max. It’s by far the easiest to work with phone I’ve ever had so far. Much easier to read. And still relatively quick.
So, yeah, I’m “eyeing” (I couldn’t resist the dad joke, sorry) the 12PM. If it’s significantly easier to see and use than the XS Max I’ll go for it.
I like the longer battery life. But I’m also a die hard user of extended battery cases (yes, I can hear you groaning about the increase in size and weight). When traveling (not so much an issue right now, I know) or in the case of extended power outages or other emergencies, those extended batteries are a necessity. And the added physical protection for a guy who rides a bike for a couple hundred miles a week is not trivial either.
I am upgrading from 7 plus to the 12 pro max
I'm planning to upgrade from the 7+ to PM too.
The much bigger touchable screen makes me a little bit nervous... 😅 Is it possible to handle the whole screen? (With one hand)
ANDY_ZOOMT, you will be fine. I have the 11 Pro Max and use the phone with one hand. I will be ordering the 12 Pro Max on Friday.

If you are worried about the size, buy the case before release date. (you'd have to buy one in store now since they won't ship before the release of the 12 max.) I bought a Otterbox Defender a little over a week or two ago and it finally arrived via fedex (which took forever to arrive) and I now feel so much more confident in spending the money on the 12 Pro Max now that I know it fits in my pocket and hand great!

@AWG*59... I did the exact same thing. Not so much to see how big the phone will be, but to have a case on hand to cover my new phone when I get it. Like you, I picked up an Otterbox case, but the Commuter Series. The phone will not fit on my wireless charging pad in my 2020 Explorer ST, so I will have to trade in my vehicle. But it will fit in my pocket and in my hand without any issue. Cant wait to reserve mine on Friday!

Silicon cases are pretty good this year.
Wait, are they silicon or silicone? 🤭 Silicone might as well be Velcro when you have it in your pocket. There are a ton of third party cases already and I’m sure we’ll see a ton of third party MagSafe cases too.
I can’t wait to preorder the pro max but I don’t know if I should go with silicon case. I want to feel the square design in my hands but also I am scared of dropping it especially because it’s expensive to fix
Magsafe is a waste of money man. I got it with the 20W brick from apple and still charges really slow. Now I almost always use the normal port for charging and it limits your choice of third party cases significantly.

The phrase "on the Max" sometimes registers in my brain as "on the Macs". (Macs have cameras too.) Then my brain has to undo what I heard, which slows down my rate of comprehension.

Interesting...I didn't experience this issue, but I understand your explanation of it. I suppose it just depends on your brain and how you process language. I'm definitely primarily an auditory learner- which traditional education tends to favor. Unfortunately, this trait is actually quite rare amongst the general population. Auditory-verbal learners occur as a very small minority when compared to the percentages of people that are naturally inclined to all the other various learning styles. Visual learners are actually the most common, despite it's reputation as being an exception to the rule...often you hear it in the context of an "excuse" for not comprehending whatever subject is being taught to them via assigned reading material or a lecture given by their teacher/professor. So often a student will say something like "I don't get it...I'm more of a visual learner" or whatever. But usually neither they nor their instructor realize that's actually the norm but according to research, it is.
School systems don't intentionally cater to this minority of auditory learners- but they have been anyway, by default...for many generations! Since the typical K-12 class structure is based on a teacher verbally explaining the material, (and perhaps assigning some additional reading) which the students are supposed to comprehend and retain- then they're tested on that knowledge whether by taking a paper test, writing an essay, or demonstrating their comprehension via a project (which they create). At least the latter can allow for students of other learning types, particularly visual and kinesthetic (physical/experiential) learners, to play to their strengths and really connect with the subject in a way that's natural for them.
But on a positive note, now we have these statistics from recent studies which show a consensus regarding learning style categories and how they trend among the general population in the US and/or the world. That's one reason there's been a shift toward alternatives to the traditional methods in education, and a push for more choices so that each individual student can choose how to learn the same curriculum but in whichever way fits them best on a personal level. You know, that's why you hear these modern buzzwords like "hands-on approach" and such. I think as long as they don't overcorrect their past mistakes by outright *replacing* auditory/verbal teaching with these other styles, it will be a good thing. Hopefully they simply add more options into the mix in order to to include all the learning styles that have previously been neglected. If education is improved with the goal of accommodating every student to give each person an equal opportunity to learn (as in gain knowledge, develop skills and even master the material). The whole point of school should be to ensure children are set up for success in life by the time they graduate from the system. If we could focus on that and achieve this goal, then we'll become better off as a society overall.

The MAX is too large for me.
The increase in technology is not worth the extra cost.
The PRO is just fine in size and price.
For me.
Vintage handbags....they do not fit.
The size being an issue is one thing but the increase in technology is massive for just $100, you are clearly not a camera person. LOL
Then get the normal iPhone 12. The Pro is almost identical to the normal and has a weaker battery performance.

I’m going from iPhone X to 12 Pro Max. I upgrading for camera first and then for a bigger screen since I use it the most to watch videos. I’ve had the 6 and 7 plus. Hoping the squared off edges make it better to hold then those plus size phones with rounded edges.

I think the 52mm vs 65mm is really a hard choice, F2 vs F2.2 makes it even harder. But since iPhone still uses the main camera for low light situations (even after you tap on 2x), maybe the F2.2 wouldn't make much of the difference?
I got the iPhone pro, the size is just right and it fits like a glove.

I already pre-ordered the 12 Pro, mainly because my current iPhone is the 7Plus and I felt the 12 Pro was going to do it for me. However, after watching a few reviews of 12 Pro vs 12 Pro Max, I began to sense that this time there is a real benefit to be had from the Max. Your video is really what it is all about for me and I came to the same conclusion as you did. The price difference is not a show stopper and the 7Plus and 12 Pro Max are almost identical in footprint. I cancelled my pre-order for the 12 Pro and I am going for the Max. Thanks for helping me decide.

I am by no means a professional photographer, so I’m sticking with the Pro. I’m never far from a charge, so I’m good there as well.
I left the iPhone series after the 6. The 5 being my absolute favorite, the 12 is the first iPhone I'm really interested in getting after all these years.
Yess, I have a 6 but I’ve always loved the design of the 5 it was just way too small for my hands so the 12 being shaped like the 5 is super intriguing

@@carloandreaguilar5916 no I was coming from the XS max but I don’t regret it. The battery life was a big factor too, and it is still great after a few months. I don’t use the 5G though because Verizon 5G is barely any different and the 5G modems eat up battery. Other than that no regrets.
Guys, I’ve used a 12 pro max from my work place for a few days and that made me choose 12 pro. The phone is very big, and after using a case it becomes huge. You risking all the time to drop it and you can really feel it heavy in your pocket. Every time you need both hands to cover all the size of the screen. If you buy this just for the picture quality, it’s not a big difference and the battery will go down in time anyway. I would recommend max for the ladies as they can keep it in the purse.

@@sixth_scent_house_malegaon_ No mate. I advise you to upgrade only if you’re going to use the phone without the case and your hands are big enough. I’m 6’ 4” (193cm) high and still think it’s too big. 12 pro looks nice in the case and the size is perfect imo.

I went from the XS Max to the 12 Pro, and I’m loving the new design and the size. The XS Max was too big for my hands, and the curved design made the device hard to hold for me. I think that the size of the 12 Pro is perfect, and I haven’t noticed a huge hit in battery, even while using 5G, in comparison to my last device. Maybe once the Pro Max has 120 hz refresh, and more of a step up in “Pro” features compared to the regular pro, I’ll go back to the bigger device.

I have an 11 Pro Max and leaning on the 12 Pro. I think the 12 Pro’s screen is probably big enough. The Max’s size is quite big for my small hands. Your comment here confirmed my bias towards a smaller phone.

the company I work for is giving us 1 pro but I wish I could wait to get a pro max... since I think it will be like my phone for the next 4 years or so... wanted it to be meaningful and add a little extra to get the pro max... sad thing is I need to make the deal next week and the pro max is still not out... @@ThePatrickCorreia they already had the phones there I had to take the iphone12 pro... but it is a big leap in performance from the 10 I had and it was a free so I just took it, loving it btw. I was weary of upgrading this year cause the changes were minimal but dang that camera and crispy screen + it is fast compared to the 10... anyone on the fence of upgrading should go for it. also the box design. oh boy
I’m waiting for the battery life comparison against the 11PM to make my decision.
Absolutely love the slab sides. I never liked the “river rock” edges of the previous versions and they lacked elegance at the meeting of glass and metal. The 90 degree edges allow it to be held much easier. The glass meeting the metal edge on my Pacific Blue iPhone 12 Pro is superbly executed and it feels perfect. I think, however, that the thickness should be increased for two reasons: 1. To bury the cameras and make them flush with the back, and 2. To increase battery size. Seems like a win-win to me.

I Always heard the bigger the screen the more battery you use is that true if I chose to get the pro max coming from the S 10+ ceramic what can I do to make sure that I have continuous battery all day long which is the reason why I am switching I am tired of android
Just got the iPhone 12 pro yesterday. Upgraded from my iPhone 11. Couldn’t be happier. The squared design is definitely superior and feels higher quality compared to the 11 pro. I have the same screen size as my iPhone 11 yet have a smaller phone. This phone is awesome!

what phone did you have beforehand for the standard Pro to feel small?
I’m waffling about doing the same thing. I upgraded from an 8 plus to a 12 pro. Reading the measurements, I thought with the 12 pro, I’d be getting a screen that’s bigger than the 8 plus without it actually being a bigger phone (no bezels). What I found is the 12 pro has a LONGER yet NARROWER screen. I’m trying to talk myself into keeping it, but honestly I miss the width of the 8 plus in terms of viewing and hand feel. I have average sized female hands. They are smallish, but not overly so. The 8 plus was actually a perfect fit in my hand. I fear the 12 pro max will be too tall (I’m not worried about width), but I’m also feeling like the 12 pro is too small (narrow). I’m trying to decide what I want to do. I just got my 12 pro on the 28th of October, so I still have a little over a week in my return window. I have not activated my 12 pro, I’m still using my 8 plus and easing myself into the 12 pro by using it at home on WiFi to play games and such, but I keep picking up my 8 plus... and I can’t stop thinking about the 12 pro max.

It actually kind of funny, apparently I had a wrong case on my 12 Pro to make it feel like an iPhone 5s. However after I’ve been given an apple silicone case, 12 pro feels fantastic in one hand. Perhaps I can type again with one hand while walking on my treadmill. Never thought that they case can make such a difference.
Im a photographer and I want the best camera, period. Max for me. Not to mention photos, web and social media looks much better on a larger screen. Win/win.

"Best" is kind of situational between 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Bigger zoom range comes with smaller max aperture on telephoto, I believe? So if (like me), you tend to prefer wider angle shots, the 12 Pro is the better choice. Plus it won't fall out of my small lady hands, and I save a few hundred dollars to spend on trips to shoot photos. 😊
Wait no. Wide angle lens is different too. I stand corrected and now I have to decide if I want a phone that I can literally barely hold. Frick.

I get your point, but wonder what the real world difference will actually be unless in extreme situations (eg very low light). Also, for production/studio shots etc, I would always just go to my full frame dslr anyway.
Great video, thanks for the comparison. I was undecided but for me the size is the factor. The PM is just too big for my short stubby fingers and coming from the XR which has always felt “too big” the regular Pro is much better as the phone is actually slightly smaller but screen size is the same.
Watched many videos that turned out inconclusive for me. Decided on the Max after this one. Great no nonsense content! Really wanted a device that fits in hand but chose the Max for better battery life and the camera is just an added bonus. Hoping I will get used to the size. 😁

Life is too short to worry about specs and both phones are an excellent upgrade from my IPhone 7 Plus, I just could not get myself to Lug around the 12 pro Max.
The entire reason for getting a phone over a dedicated camera is to always have it with you and I was very happy to hold the 12 pro in my hand and in my pockets.
As for battery life I turned off 5G and put it into power saving mode.
I am sure others will be very happy with the Pro Max.
just so you know the screen is bigger, but in terms of dimensions the only difference in 12 pro max compared to the 7 plus is a 0.1 inch height difference

It’s been a week with 12 pro. Battery life is good with 5G off and battery saver mode.

Can I ask how your battery life is doing on the 12 Pro? That’s my only concern. I’m coming from a 8+
@@The0n3 Battery life is about equal of slightly better than 7 plus and therefore 8 plus.
However, I turn off completely 5G since LTE is plenty fast. Also in the morning set it to power saving mode. Screen brightness about 40 to 50%.
If I start morning at 100% by 5pm I am around 40% with fairly heavy use through out the day.
No problem for 1 fill day of use.
I’m getting the max myself, I want it to last a few years and have the best battery life possible. Plus the Sensor Shift will help with keeping video more stable. The larger cameras will help increase night mode quality and let it more light. With how much these things cost an extra 100 bucks doesn’t seem as bad anymore

I’m still running an 8 Plus and was surprised to see the 12 Pro Max was the same size in width, 2.4 mm taller and 0.1 mm thinner. I won’t notice any change in my hand.
Looking forward to the new performance levels, even though the camera differences don’t seem to be as significant as you might expect between 8 and 12.
I just feel as you was speaking to me directly. Im sure others probably feel the same as well. I have the note 20 ultra but might get the max pro instead of the regular pro.

I laughed out loud about the pants comment! Had 8 plus and chose the Pro. outdoor jackets pro fits in many range of pockets. If I want a big screen I will get an iPad. 👍

Great content I was holding off with my 8Plus until next year, but the more I tune in to your videos , the more I drawn to the iPhone pro MAX !!!!, I just got my daughter the iPhone 12 blue 64 and it’s KILLING !!!!, I keep taking it from her to get a feel of it , and she keep saying Dad just get the MAX already .
I got my 8Plus for $590 brand new and has a $412 trade-in value so the 12 Pro Max is worth the upgrade

I went to T-mobile today and I was a little upset cause I asked what time Friday I can come and pre-order my new bad ass iPhone 12 pro max and they said well you have to wait on the list what the heck what list? Coming from an iPhone X, the iPhone 12 Pro feels substantially larger in hand. I really wouldn’t want anything larger than this, even with the better camera.

Replacing my 10 XS Max and I am going for the 12 Pro Max the day pre ordering opens up the 6th.
I have a Iphone 5s, Ive wanted a new phone for a while and wanted to buy the new iPhone 12 pro max. But, know Im getting cold feet, should I wait for the new phones next year or should I buy iPhone 12 pro max? What I really want better from my old phone is battery and camera.

I already used the "it's only $100 more" when thinking about going 12 pro over 12. Ha. I could use that reasoning again on going from 12 Pro to Pro Max.....but I think I may go ahead and go with the Pro.
I've been reading about the pro and feel like the 12Pro Max might be the one to get. If you have the money for the 12 pro, then you can afford the extra $100 for the max. The max gets a larger battery than the standard pro which would be totally worth it given how much 5G seems to impact the battery life.

Upgrading from the 7+ to the PM. I’ve had it for years and love the size, and since both are virtually the same size, this will be a huge upgrade for me. I also think this will sufficiently replace the need to carry a DSLR camera on trips, too.
I ditched dslr since iPhone 8+
