    Steezy ollie. I like your subtle flex using FP instead of digital for proofs. Respect ✊

      Certain Exposures Haha, yea. I wish I could use it more, we burned my last few frames. From now on it’s all instax wide for test shots. I think digital makes for great proofs but no subject gets as excited for an LCD screen as they do for a print

    Had an idea to shoot some 4x5 skate shots with 3 cactus strobes and started googling to what other people's experiences were. Landed on your video. Thanks for sharing. Guess I just need to go do it.

      Majorly encourage you to give it a go! I’ve been working on a book for the last few years, all 4x5 action sports images. Extremely fun project. You can see some of that work on my Instagram @ Cinedar

      @@DavesFilmLab thank you! I’ll take a look. I’ve been shooting film and digital for a few years but just started a monochrome workshop with a darkroom space in Tokyo that ends in an exhibition.

    Great shot! Never would've thought to use 4x5 for action photos

      A nerdyasian It’s great due to the true high flash sync of leaf shutter lenses, background separation, and extremely high resolution

    Wow! Killer shot. Just found your channel. Its amazing that you shoot 4x5 for action sports. I mean I know the leaf shutter makes sense but its just so crazy getting it all setup and getting the focus right. Much respect!

      Andrew Thompson Thanks a bunch! It was the natural progression since I only used my RB67 on a tripod and in mirror lock up mode. Was published more with the Mamiya than any other camera I’ve owned but was time to progress to 4x5 as I rarely ever burned more than 6 frames of 120. Again, thank you! Lots of love going into these shots

    Would be super interested to hear you talk about metering with multiple flashes in a future vid.

    • @DavesFilmLab
      @DavesFilmLab  Před 4 lety +1

      I’m using a digital camera for a light meter cause it’s faster and gives me a preview. Still tend to use instax wide film for the real test shots, but to get my exposure reading for strobes.... it’s almost always done with a digital camera now. Ditched my sekonic ambient/flash meter a year or two ago

    Love these! I shot a bike race with my RZ a few weeks ago and (unsurprisingly, in retrospect) freezing motion and getting good DoF for prefocusing was tough. Might take my AD600 and my 4x5 out to the dirt jumps this weekend; the flash seems like it’ll help a lot to freeze motion (along with good timing and luck) I don’t think I’d even try that if you weren’t showing it was possible, so thank you!

    • @DavesFilmLab
      @DavesFilmLab  Před 4 lety +1

      Moishe Lettvin Thanks! Definitely helps with flash if you keep your flashes at half or lower power to keep flash durations high, and underexpose your ambient by a few stops. Also, no matter what.... I’ll put my flashes as close as possible cause I’m just using 200ws strobes. Hope to see your images from the dirt jumps :)

      Moishe Lettvin Hate to throw the sales pitch in there but I’ve got prints for sale and it helps me keep my art going. Not monetizing these videos and want to keep fun content coming to inspire others. No pressure, but if you don’t ask, the answer is always no :)

    What kind of shutter speed to freeze that... 1/250-500? I presume the flash syncs with those shutter speeds?

    • @DavesFilmLab
      @DavesFilmLab  Před 4 lety +1

      bwvids 1/500 f/13 and yes, flash will sync at any shutter speed with leaf shutter lenses
