The rumor about zendaya playing Moana stems from the fact that for quite awhile it was reported that Auli’li would not come back to voice Moana in the sequel as she felt she got a great opportunity and wanted to give the opportunity to someone else. They must have convinced her otherwise which is good because I think a voice change for her would be jarring and too obvious taking away from the movie
