I'm from the UK and some of the UK covers are questionable, but I do remember seeing some really stunning hunger games editions (not the neon ones, those are committing a FEDERAL CRIME) the last time I went to the bookstore
Im from the UK too, the neon is horrendous! Ive got the editions from when these books first came out and theyre just the mockingjay badge on a black background- Perfection 👌👌

Italian here. We had a different edition of Hunger Games prior to the "fence" one, but it's not the first you showed! I honestly never saw that! But the fence one.. I kinda liked it immediatly when it came out!

Unfortunately it was a first edition of Polish Shadow&Bone. By the time we got Six of Crows the rights went to a different publisher and they not only changed the cover but also the translation including the titles and names!! I had to hunt down the other two books in the trilogy on some second-hand sites😢

If you want to do more comparisons, the Brazilian publisher “seguinte” does a lot of cover redesigns to mostly YA books, like: One Last Stop, If This Gets Out, Tokio Ever After, etc.

Anime and manga-like covers are very popular in Japan, not only for YA, fantasy, and children's books but also for mysteries, contemporary novels, etc. Even some old titles are being republished with those kinds of covers! 📚✨
So I went to Paris last summer, and I saw an absolutely fantastic French edition of the seven deaths of evelyn hardcastle , as well as both of Madeline Miller's books. I almost bought the french version of the song of achilles even though I've already read it because it was so stunning haha
omg I know I made a lot of suggestion already, but i had to come back for I thing here is the only place where I can vent about the cover change of "If this gets out" by Sophie Gonzales. The original cover is so beautiful and now THIS! I am sorry, I don´t mean to offend ppl who like that kind of art style, but I really don´t think the german cover compares to the original cover. I wanna cry.
My frustration level is "Spin the Dawn"- Cover-change- level.
Same goes for the cover change of "She drives me crazy" by Kelly Quindlen. The original cover is a wonderful, lovely wonderful picture, a piece of art. the german cover is so plain.
I feel like the US edition of They Both Die at the End is perfect, because the color scheme is very melancholic, but also soft and gentle like the characters. And it makes it look like dusk, which is about when their story starts together if I remember right. That orange is so happy looking and vibrant. Does not fit the tone of the book at all.
I know it wasn't included in this video but I will never get over the atrocity that is the UK edition of Tokyo Ever After, especially compared to the US one
The creepy rabbit on the cover of Hell Bent is one of the worst I've seen. Can't wait for the book, but I'm ditching that cover 🤣
4:12 I am italian, and I have NEVER seen that cover in my life. The italian version everyone had was very similar to the original book covers, maybe a little less stylized if that makes sense? Then they recently remade it with actually a really nice futuristic looking cover.

When I was in France in 2021 I found the French edition of Shadow and Bone (the whole trilogy) and I just bought them, I love them so much xD Now they have a special place on my shelf.
Also you should do editions of the Lunar Chronicles, there certainly are a bunch of other editions out there!
...I love the neon Hunger Games. I know I'm the odd one out, but I love the bright colors and the quotes all over it. I'm also pissed I missed the 10th anniversary editions! They're so good!
The Valkyrie series by Kate O’Hearn has some of my favorite book covers in the US, but some other covers I’ve seen were genuinely awful, especially because I liked the other covers so much!

You don't understand the real power that german Shadow and Bone cover holds, it's an old edition that has a colored cover under the blandness that is the dust jacket!

The german publisher tend to change the Titel of books. And by change, I mean they not only translate the title, they actually give a new one.😅 For example the hunger games series. The overall series Titel is like you mentioned: "the tributes of panem“. For the actual books you have
1. Deadly games
2. Dangerous love
3. Flaming fury
Sometimes they change make sense but you just think wtf. 🤦♀️ I now it's not the meaning of the video, but I had to rant a little bit😇
For cool german cover you should check out the cover for the witcher series, Ash Princess and the mistborn series.
As a crapyier cover I can recoment the first law series. (they also did there the name changes again😅)
Or they change it into something different but still English. Like they did with one Alice Oseman book...

@Lion Muesli same! I thought I had missed the complete excistence of another Oseman book and nearly bought it by accident until I saw that it said also the English title small on the cover. It's just so stupid
@@lionmuesli4321 there's a copy right law. If a book with the same or I think even a similar title already exists the publishers have to change it as the same title can't exist twice. that's why sometimes they add an additional title
@@thatangelread this wouldn't really apply to the titles of translations of the same book. There are plenty of titles kept the same on the german market. A secondary german title is often used, because well... it's a german translation. You would like your german reader to understand the title. Generally, title changes just come down to what the publisher thinks will work best on their specific market, since an american audience and a german audience can sometimes differ greatly. Plus: the audience a publisher is playing to is not only the readers but primarily the wholesellers, so it depends on what titles sell with the big costumers.
The special edition of They Both Die at the End replaces the orange with gold and it’s *gorgeous*

I am from Bulgaria and I want to assure you that I have never seen this yellow thing. The edition in Bulgaria is orange, just like in the UK edition.

Oh I hated the German covers so much that it stopped me from reading the series when it first came out.
I only just started reading them now because they got a very nice simplistic redesign.

I got that neon hungergames edition in dutch for my birthday like six years ago. I hated the cover then and i hate it now. I got the entire trilogy in english with the the original edition and i threw the neon version out as soon as i could. My mom really liked the neon one.
