I think Darcy was already a decent man internally, just had abrasive manners. But I don't think he had to necessarily learn that it would be good to help the Bennet family. This only enabled Lizzy to see that his abrasive manners were not the only thing to him but that there was an honorable person underneath.

He could of just laid off 30% of his workforce and used that to cover and increase wages. He's clearly okay with not being liked might as well just fire them instead of this.

The careless butchering of Darcy and Elizabeth by popular culture is absolutely infuriating. Darcy was raised to take care of his family, loved ones AND HIS EMPLOYEES. He was a man of good basic principles but only lived them out through PRIDE AND CONCEIT. He wasn't some evil capitalist despot. Both characters have valuable and likeable traits and take a year to grow and understand that about each other. How can you claim to be so obsessed with something when you don't even understand the first thing about it 💀

Darcy is at worst mildly classist (he won't mistreat people of lower class but he won't consider them his equals either) and somewhat condescending, and that is very much a result of his background as a scion of a wealthy landed family with maternal connections to mid-tier nobility. he was always a genuinely generous and honorable person, he just got a reality check and figured out how to better act like it XD especially to people he didn't have responsibilities to. the absolute clownage of invoking his character on these chucklefucks.

I just want to say that the description of Rowan in a suit at 12:05 made me SO. MAD. Because **that's not how a formal suit is supposed to fit on the body!!** Suits are not supposed to hug a man's curves, they are meant to create clean, straight lines! I weep for men's fashion, because even Hollywood celebrities have fallen victim to this idea that they should look like they're constantly in danger of ripping their suit it's so tight but that's absurd!! And it doesn't look as good as you think!!

He can start off like this (apathetic and nastily inappropriate) but then because of an uprising towards Dreamland he must spend time on charity to gain back the public’s favor through the press. At first it’s just for reputation, but as he spend time with the people who needs help, Rowan actually develops sincere empathy and because we know Zahra also do charity and help like this, can become a major plot device that establish valuable romantic moments without the sexual parts. Despite the public slowly returning to like dreamland again, a major scandal about the industry wipes away Rowan and the company’s efforts , the uprising is getting bigger and Zahra convinces Rowan to run away with her before they enter the building because she saw him changing. At the middle of the escape, Rowan stops and tell Zahra to go on since she will be affected because she was in a high position in dreamland. Cues emotional, angsty goodbye, Rowan stays and the uprising found him, they put him on the thing . End of story.
We can actually see Rowan going from smashing his lips on an employee to him through understanding her, is willing to stay behind the boundaries of boss and employee. We can see the longing in both parties (like in persuasion) which makes the climax(the goodbye) even more critical and not situational.

Hot Take but I think the ‘misunderstood villain romance’ trope only works when said villain is in a disadvantaged position that the protagonist or the reader comes to realise they can relate to. It’s the reason zuko is so appealing - he’s not a rich and powerful firebending prince threatening the heros, he’s a disgraced prince sent on a wild goose chase by his abusive father whose repeated failures to achieve his goals expose his good qualities. That’s a lot more likeable than an asshole billionaire who abuses his position of power to sexually harass his employee and accidentally stumbled across some semblance of a moral compass in the process

But the hero was always the honest, guy-next-door type who swooped in to save her from Lord DeVil or whoever - I don't know when women started to fall for guys who treat them like trash, but it brought us to Reylo in the end, which is just... ugh!

Ok, haven't read the book, and will not either, but from what I can gather here I see this had the potential to be a corporate version of Hallmark's "Prince falls in love with Regular Girl" movies, at least. Rowan's ice-cold, stone-hearted emotionless-ness and Zhara's sassy attitude towards his oppression and creepiness, are what dulls down the book the most. The only thing connecting them is lust, which in and of itself is not enough. There's no genuine interest on Zhara beyond her beauty and her superficial quirkiness in Rowan. There's no fear and acknowledgement of Rowan's power in Zhara. There is no sadness in Rowan upon realizing that he cannot have genuine relationships with the employees because they fear him, since their lives are in his hands, nor any attempts to show kindness and humanity to make him more sympathetic. And finally, THERE IS ONLY ONE LOVE INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE BOOK, and that makes Rowan look creepy and clingy and gross! I think the book would've been better from Rowan's perspective alone, and shown him dating multiple different women, always trying to have a deep connection with them and slowly finding out how to work with the power dynamics.

I love how instead of a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, the author accidentally wrote a modern version of the Christmas Carol featuring a crackship romance involving Mr. Scrooge

Are we SURE that the author actually read Pride&Prejudice ?? Cause she clearly has no idea what kind of character is Mr.Darcy.

I unfortunately gave this book a chance too. I actually quite enjoyed the first part of it, but it’s clear that Rowan has soooo much unresolved trauma and daddy issues that he needs to work through. This is a classic example of “FMC teaches MMC that people deserve basic human rights” but even then all he cares about is getting the FMC. Even with his grand gesture at the end it felt so calculated and manipulative. I was actually so pissed when I finished the book and was wondering why people hype it up so much LMAO

Honestly I think the classic fictional man the main character should be obsessed with & comparing her love interest to is Ebenezer Scrooge

I purchased a Bridgerton book believing that something so popular must be good, I was wrong.

The show is alright but those books... truly the worst things ever. And the book readers are always recommending them
