Always clean before sanding existing cabinets.
Fill the grain unless you like that more rustic, home-made look.
What paint color was used?
How do you know what type of cabinets you have (wood vs. laminate)? Sorry I just have no clue what the difference is. And how do you fix the shelves?
Typically, solid wood cabinet doors will have noticeable joints where the frame was constructed. Laminate doors, on the other hand, will have a smooth, seamless finish. You can also usually feel the difference between the materials. Wood will have more texture, whereas laminate will feel smoother and more plasticky due to the resin and glue that is used in its construction.
For shelves, you can fix scratches and small dings with wood filler. If the shelf is sagging, you can reinforce it with additional brackets or by adding an additional support. If your shelves have more damage than can be fixed, you may need to purchase or build new shelves.
@@lowes Thank you. Since I can feel the texture, I know I have wood cabinets. I appreciate your help.
Skipped right over the cleaning process. 😢

How about numbering
each cabinet before taking down?
Got New door pulls?
Buy a jig first saves you tons of time measuring so blazingfast installs
Amazon
And rinse that TSP too
60% of kitchens are done in semi gloss because ez clean per Sherwin Williams
And between coats just put your roller, tray, and brush inside plastic garbage bag tuck it under tight so no air leaks now you can go up to 2 days no need to clean up start all over on second coat
On cabinets be sure to use a 1/4" Purdy white dove roller why because cabinets are very smooth finish so 1/4" rolls n primer too
Another Sherwin Williams pro tip I learned years ago
Painting for 40 yrs now still fun learn everyday
And patience grasshopper 80% is prep
Lazer focus so go slow to actually go fast
Bye now:)
Informative but some are lacking
Lowes is better then those depot people
All these "how to paint kitchen cupboards" only deal with wood. I have laminate coated cupboard doors and haven't seen any of these "how to" videos that cover that in any detail.
Thank you for the feedback! For laminate most of the steps are the same. Use any oil or latex based primer first. It may require 2 coats, but after the primer dries, lightly sand and they are ready for paint!
@@lowesThanks for the information.
I have laminate cupboards also, I used rustoleum Cabinet Transformations, very easy steps and a video how to is included. My cupboards looked brand new lol. it’s been over 10 years, it’s just starting to have some wear n tear around the handles, I’m planning on redoing them again this year but in white. It says you don’t need to sand, ALWAYS sand and fill in where needed before you start. I’m going to buy a paint sprayer this time because I want a seamless look because I’m very picky lol, I was told it saves a lot of time. Good luck!
#1 don't. Paint will always chip and peel. Always.
When we bought our house January 2023 it came with brand new cabinets. And they are already chipping and peeling. Not even painted. Just the cheap crap they were made with.
