    What a coincidence - I was very recently watching a repeat of the 1978 series "Return of the Saint" (S1 E8 The Poppy Chain) and the shoot out with the Camargue based drug runners saw them armed with a MAT-49 and an unknown (to me) other SMG, then lo & behold this video drops and it is the same gun, the Gevarm SMG (can't recall if a D3 or D4). The series was known for lots of location shooting around Europe rather than bringing the world to Elstree Studios hence the readier access to French weapons.

    The supposition that those holes in the lower receiver are for the sliding wire stock is half right, according to photographs the rear one is for the wire stock but even the wire stock version shows the forward holes with nothing in them. Could we have an episode on the HK45 and modernized FALs?
    HK45 was developed to be used by Delta Force, being kinda a modernized 1911, but I think it was never adopted. It was supposed to be THE pistol, but it's now forgotten, what happened?
    Also, there's an episode on modernized G3s, we could also have one on fals. It's another forgotten weapon, and people only talk about rhodesia when they remember the fal, but there are a lot of countries who still uses it, I think it would be cool if modernized fals become a new trend like it was the alpha ak.

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz Před 10 měsíci +4

      The HK45 is still produced (or was until very recently) and found major success on the civilian market.
      It is one of those firearms that HKnuts argue with other HKnuts about what is the best .45 that HK produced.

    • @genericpersonx333
      @genericpersonx333 Před 10 měsíci +3

      When you say modernized, what do you mean?
      Modernization comes in two flavors:
      One can change an old gun design to have new capabilities, producing entirely new guns made specifically to have those new capabilities. One "modernizes the design," rather than modernizing the guns themselves.
      The other way is to take produced guns and replace old parts with new parts to change capability. One is modernizing the guns themselves.
      In general, most users of the FAL have not significantly modified produced FALs to have new capabilities. FN is noted for encouraging customers to buy new-production FALs that have new features built in, rather than offering major upgrade kits for existing FALs.
      Several major users of G3, conversely, have opted to actually take their old G3s and replace significant portions of the old guns with new parts intended to change capability. H&K is known for promoting modularity in their designs which facilitates post-production upgrade or modification.

      @@JD-tn5lz I was curious to know specifically what happened with the hk45 in the army, the pistol met the delta requirements, why did they choose glock instead? I know that they didn't like the finger grooves, but in general, that's it.

    • @leandrovm45
      @leandrovm45 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@genericpersonx333 With modernized I mean: add a railed dust cover, different stock, grip...not really made a new gun. Dsa makes fals with aluminum parts, and they have the same weight as a fn scar, but have a non reciprocating charging handle, and it doesn't break optics AFAIK. It would be interesting to see a comparison between a modernized fal and other rifles. Everyone likes the ARs, but some people would like to have a side charging handle and a folding stock.

    The hole through the fire control assembly locking pin/bar is probably for a sling for the folding-stock version, which appears to have been used. So I'm wondering if this is a mix of model parts?

    Could you not just ask someone at IRCGN what the hole was for? I would think they might know.

    I wonder why they even bothered putting 100m sights on this piece, since barrel is barely 20cm in lenght and with respect to the way it operates (9mm fairly cheap smg) it seems almost as if this was accurate maybe up to 30-50 meters with anything hit beyond that range being prolly more of a lucky shot.
    Still I'd love to see if it is true or not on range. Maybe I'd be surprised.

    As a native speaker, I would be quite surprised if it wasn't pronouced "Jévarm" insted of Guévarm". You're quite probably under German influence (Gewehr) :)

    Wouldn’t that be annoying to have the sling right near the front sight? I’ve never aimed a gun with that kind of thing so I can’t say if it would bothersome
