It’s better this year. Have two 4 foot 2 1/2 inch hoses so minus the stone setup and can angle towards the sun a bit more
Nice video filled with good tips & trix. I'm setting up a solar powered pool heater right now and my goal is 30°C / 86°F in the pool. I'm starting with 250 meters / 820 feet of 20 mm / ¾ inch PEM hose in a flat rooftop setup. A 20V rainwater barrel pump (2,000 liters - 528 gallons / hour) will be connected directly to a solar panel, so it's a completely automatic system controlled and powered by the sun.
No sun = no pump = no heating.
Since I'm located at 60° latitude in the northern hemisphere, I'll guess it'll be some problems and math to solve along the way, but it'll be fun.
I've spent 250 USD for the hose, 50 USD for the pump and 50 USD for the solar panel. If it works, I'll have a pool heater for 350 USD that doesn't require any manuel labour and it'll run for free. You can follow this project and more on my new channel.

should of had dome on, could have used a thermometer to show temp rise if any. looks like a nice pool.hope you enjoy the summers. approx location of the country. Thanks
It does work well with the dome on. Should have had that in the video. Objective temps would have illustrated the point better than my subjective rise in temp. Is a 15 footer which is gone now and we’re considering a more “permanent “ above ground. This is Minnesota, Midwest US. thanks for watching
The dome isn't for "protection..." It's to increase the heat kind of like how your car is so hot when the windows are closed on a hot summer day.

Are you sure that position of the dome is OK? It is on shady site all your video.
Wouldnt this thing be more effective if it was elevated slightly higher then the pool wall so it gets full sun? This operates on the water being warmed by the sun hitting it no?
It does. My situation doesn’t have full sun. If your pump is strong enough and you can rig it up to be in full sun then you’ll be in business. Since making this video we upgraded the pump and added a 2nd dome which really helped the pool water temp
That and have the plastic dome on it! It's designed that way to trap the heat and let the light in

15 footer, about 2800 gallons. Warms it up to a tolerable amount but might need more than one warmer to make it more than that. Than can be chained together but be aware of the possible strain it puts on your pump. Thanks!
I bought a used dome solar heater off marketplace and I don't have a pump. Can I just use a normal hose from the faucet in our backyard?
You maybe could. 1. The hose to the dome would need a converter to match the size of the in/out 2. It helps to have a pump to move the water through the dome 3. The water would still be about the same temp.
It’s helpful to have a steady body of water that get continuously cycled through and gradually raises the temp to warmer.
I bet they have pumps on market place too

I found I needed three of those in series to actually make a difference. I used a solar powered pump to circulate the water.
That’s smart. The one raises it a few degrees in good conditions. I’ve heard people using multiple. The water pump makes sense
I am in Florida and I just need small temp gain 10 degrees. 10,000gal inground pool. My panels after 20 years leak looking for something that is easy to replace them. Thanks for your response.

I have a solar invention I'm working on! Would say $400 be a fair price to have something that would be maintenance free and last a very long time? As long as it gets your Temps up 10+ degrees?

Hard to tell if the results are from the solar dome he purchased or from the solar cover he has. Not convinced whether or not to purchase it.

Goofball, Your supposed to have the clear dome on it, that’s what makes it trap and transfer the heat inside, your loosing the heaters ability to heat the water.
We have the heaters still and the domes attached. They work well 👍
