@@MIsForMeeple I'm very interested in greek mythology, so I've read a book or two about it and I tell you there's A LOT of raping, murdering, poisoning, skinning, boiling, eating, hacking, slashing and all sorts of horror imaginable and in very gruesome constellations! 😉

an IP with the Lovecraft estate might be interesting. Facing off against a Shoggoth, Serpent Folk, and the Color Out of Space. Likewise classic non-Universal monsters like The Thing, Pumpkin-Head, Penny-Wise, the Blob, or even the Gremlins.

One possible IP if Hasbro would allow it might be the D&D Ravenloft setting with players being adventurers taking on the Dark Lords of the Realm of Dread. Perhaps the map might, instead of being a single town location, might be a group of Domains and each subdivided into a series of locations within the domain (example being the Domain of Barovia ruled by the vampire lord Baron Strahd with areas including the town, woods, and monastery locals in addition to Castle Ravenloft); in the setting the Domains are divided from one another by the Mists of Ravenloft which in a board game act as a hindrance to movement (though some character types can bypass it either through an object card or special ability--a Vishanti character would have the ability to ignore the Mists in addition to having a movement of 5 as an example). The Dark Lords begin the game trapped in their Domains unable to pass through the Mists--until they Frenzy. If they get a Frenzy card and can move far enough to pass through the barriers of their domain, they can travel the realms of Dread to spread their evil. Other dark lords beyond Strahd might include the lich Azalin, the dark Fey known as the Raven Queen, Mordenheim and his flesh golem Adam, the death knight Lord Soth, the necromancer Nathaire of Averoigne, the ghost Lord Godefro, the wererat Lady Reinier, and the God-Brain and its mind flayer minions (this last dark lord cannot move but can use its minions instead, and the mind flayers ignore the mists but can be destroyed by adventurers). @@MIsForMeeple

Horrified is probably my favorite cooperative game after Spirit Island (which Rich hates, boo). It was actually the first game we played when we first moved into this apartment, and it just came back into our lives again (as my former roommate took her copies of both OG and AM with her)... we actually just taught it to our designer friend John who LOVES everything Prospero Hall. It's just silly, campy fun and we can't wait to get our hands on Greek Monsters, because I am a HUGE Greek mythology nerd. Like, I was that weird kid in third grade reading the unabridged literary translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey... though Rich also collected and painted the Universal Monsters as a kid, so he is inclined towards that one.

We've never played Spirit Island, but since a lot of people have it as their number 1 or at least in their top 10, we've been thinking about getting it. If you're huge on Greek mythology, then you're gonna love this version of Horrified!

I will say, Spirit Island is a beast to learn, but great if you like assymetric powers. It was kind of the thing that got me into boardgame playthrus to start with, as it was my first really heavy game and that's how I found Before You Play, they have probably the BEST tutorial on it

I'm working on a "La Llorona" custom monster scenario for American Monsters.
It utilizes visual landmarks and details in the map in order to find her hideout and defeat her.
People that have played Tobago before will understand the concept immediately.
But It's basically like a puzzle that relies on the postmortem testimony of her victims.
You search for these clues near the water areas where the bodies were drown. But that's where you are the most vulnerable since you could be next.
Haven't been able to play test it yet since I'm still waiting for my copy of American Monsters.
But I think it will be pretty fun.

      @@MIsForMeeple
Sure will. They don't sell it here in Costa Rica, but it should arrive before Christmas.
I just need some insight regarding traffic lights in USA, do they emit some sort of sound when in red in order to help visually impaired people cross the street?
This may seem off topic, but the clues are sense based:
Hearing, sight, smell and touch (finding 3 will form a combination that reveals a unique location on the map)
Clues are context based so instead of telling the players that the hideout is adyacent to the traffic lights, the wandering spirit will tell them about hearing a mechanical bird.
Which will only make sense if traffic lights make that type of sound in USA as well 😅
So basically it's like a scape room type of deal the very first time you play it.
The idea is that players interact with details in the map trying to understand what the clues mean. A separate help sheet is included, it explains all the clues and also provides the exact location for each combination. But you never know, you may have a detective in your party.
La Llorona's hideout is in the sewer system of the town and this is why her victims are later found in the river or lake. I just want someone, somewhere, one day to somehow crack this case, without the help sheet and give their party a great gaming moment.
Finally, I do some game board design myself, and recently someone mentioned some similarities between Horrified and the game I beta tested them:
PANIC (Power, Activation, Navigation, Investigation, Courage) (which are the actions you roll for during each turn)
The similarities being the monsters AI according to them, so I started investigating about Horrified and while watching some videos I ended up visualizing a new scenario and ordering a copy lol.

    • @MIsForMeeple
      @MIsForMeeple  Před 7 měsíci

@CV-lm7pv Traffic lights in the U.S. do not emit a sound while red, although they really should, that's a fantastic idea! Sometimes (it varies by location and mainly only in cities), crosswalks will have a sound element to help signal that people can cross the street, but it's not consistent everywhere. Hope that helps! Really love your ideas for this custom Horrified scenario!

Horrified is rated for 10 and up, but the base mechanics aren't hard. I think a 9 and 7 year old could get it. Since it's cooperative, you could could collectively decide what each character does. The biggest hurdle might be explaining how to defeat each monster

As for this coming into the mainstream I'm sure Ravensburger could secure the license to make these games, but there's some threads you can find about how the developers that worked on Dead By Daylight(video game) had a rough time working with the IP holders and modeling the characters, like Mike Myers and I think Ghost Face had a licensing issue where they got the rights to use the attire but couldn't reference the movie Scream.
