This video describes plans for a pedal operated caster extension and retraction system for table saws similar to my Rockwell Delta contractor's saw.
Casters extend and the tool is jacked off the floor by simply depressing a foot pedal. The pedal latches in the down position automatically and the tool can be moved easily on its casters. To retract the casters, unlatch the pedal with your toe, allow it to raise and the casters to retract. The tool will then rest solidly on its own stand.
Such a great design, I love Carl’s creativity, even makes his own draw rollers for his draws, such a quintessential tradesman, I really appreciate your approach to solving problems.

I watched your video a few times and went out to my shop and built this castor system for my old craftsman table saw. It works like better than the factory wheels that were falling apart. I need to work on the lock and after watching this again I see where I can make improvements. Thanks for sharing.

I went thru the "reverse engineering" ordeal for my 1957 DeWalt Radial Arm Saw (before Carl offered his plans).. While my retractable caster set-up works, it's not as "smooth" as Carl's (in the video).. I went ahead and bought the plans and intend on remaking the platform "properly", this time ;-} And, I am going to make a retractable caster set-up, all in steel, for my five foot sheet-metal brake (all 600lbs of it!) Super Great Idea, Carl.. Well worth the cost of the plans!! Chas

I ordered your table saw plans but don’t see where the 20 min video is of you building the caster system
Hi Mr Holmgren, I purchased your plans about a year ago, but I am just getting around to making the Table Saw version. I have noticed a dimension discrepancy: tOn pg 2 of the drawings you show that the Castor Mounting Bds are a lamination of 1/4”+3/4”+3/4”= 1-3/4” total. But on the Cut List you show that the CMB’s are 1/4”+3/4”+1/4”=1 1/4” total. Can you please advise which thickness is correct? Thank you.

What if I have a table extension on the side

how can I maximize the clearance of the jacked table saw and castor system? I need to roll down a 3 inch drop from my garage to my driveway. looks like I'll have to build a ramp. what do you think? great work. thanks for sharing.
Phillippe, The maximum lift with my caster system can be increased by using wider caster mounting boards and mounting the casters further from the hinges. You'd need stronger lever arms and much more down pressure to raise the tool. I think you could raise the tool as much as one inch - You'd still need a ramp of some kind. /////Carl
Use bigger diameter castor's, done.
