- Tony and Newt review their new favorite Christmas film, Trancers! Find out how crazy this Blade Runner/Terminator style sci fi romp is in this Podcast / Movie Review. You get everything from time traveling brains, zombie Santa Claus, and young Helen Hunt.
Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) is a trooper in Angel City, circa 2247, mopping up the last of the disciples of the Martin Whistler (Michael Stefani). Whistler uses his psychic power to 'trance' those with weak minds and force them to obey his every desire. Whistler had been thought to be dead by now, but he's alive and well, and in the year 1985. Whistler's plan - to hunt down the ancestors of the City Council. With the Council disbanded, nothing is to stop Whistler from controlling the city. That's where Jack Deth fits in. Jack is sent back in time by inhabiting the body of his ancestor. The only problem is that Whistler's ancestor is a police detective, and he's begun trancing people back in 1985. With the help of Lena (Helen Hunt), a strong-minded punk rock girl, he must find and protect Hap Ashby, a former baseball pitcher now living on Skid Row, and face Whistler in a final confrontation.

I would rank it out of full moon production movies under the original Puppet Master and above Dollman but I would say I love Killjoy series but they didn't make it to my top 5

I think I found this movie several years back at a Vintage Stock, and I loved how campy it is. Then I found a trilogy box set! It's been a while since I've watched them, but I really enjoyed how silly this series is.

Realistically, who'd win in a bout of fisticuffs: Samurai Cop or Jack Death? Just imagine if the two merged into one sentient being as Samurai Jack Death Cop...
28:50 I thought it was implied that Jack Death was his own "father". When Whistler is about to cut Helen Hunt's throat with a knife at the end he says "Didn't you know? Dethton marries the girl, or would have had she had lived. Now Jack Death witness your own demise!"
What he's saying is, in the normal timeline Jack's relative Phil Dethton marries Helen Hunt who are then responsible for producing the relatives that made Jack Death down the line in the future. If Whistler kills Helen Hunt by throwing her off the roof, Jack Death will die because his relatives will never have been born. So Jack has to save Helen Hunt or he himself will die.
But the kicker is, since Jack stayed back in time he's the one who ends up marrying Helen Hunt. He's the one that impregnates Helen who gives birth to the children that would later give birth to Jack himself in the future. Therefore he is responsible for his own birth.
Yeah, later in the series we meet the daughter they had...who happens to be his great grandmother as well.

Trancers is definitely a favorite of mine! It's got Helen Hunt who's one of my celebrity crushes and it's got Tim Thomerson as one of the most badass science fiction heroes that no one has ever heard of.
Can we please go back and review the “wish masters” movies.

Don't blame Helen Hunt for that jacket. Blame the costume department. Now excuse me while I nerd out a bit since I'm a history buff. The Confederacy never actually had their own unifying flag because they were politically disorganized (and incompetent). The Bonnie Blue came close to becoming their flag. What we think of today as "the Confederate flag" is actually the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. The only reason the CSA ever achieved any victories was because their military leadership, mostly educated at West Point, was more relatively professional than the Union Army's leadership (who also had some of those sniveling, uppity, hypocritically elitist, backward-minded West Point screwheads on their side). Btw, Jebediah Morningside was a mortician in the Union Army before he became The Tall Man. Oh! Idea! "Tracers Vs. Phantasm!"

The only thing I can think of about the steering wheel fit, is that older cars there was a lot more give on the Wheel especially if he didn't have power steering.

I watched trancers back in 1991 loved this franchise
Tim Thomerson is another actor whose career is great to follow. Dollman, Nemesis, MetalStorm, etc. (Also a bit part in Rhinestone, but yeah. xD) Bilson & De Meo also wrote a Sci-Fi/WWII film with him and several other Trancers actors that was pretty fun.

I too thought that Tim Thomerson seemed really old in this movie, so I looked it up. According to IMDB he was only 38 when this was made. Which surprised me because no joke he looks like he's in his sixties in some shots.
In the 80s, we all looked much older. I had ladies hanging all over me when I was four. It always started with them appreciating how sensitive and cute I was. But the game was up in 15 minutes, when I asked for a happy meal or if I can stay up past 8:30.
He still had blonde hair, but it looked white in the filming process
