Basic income is the future. Even Elon Musk said as much in 2017. Like Yang, Elon also saw that automation and AI will create massive unemployment, and a basic income was inevitable. But we will also have abundance, because machines can run efficiently 24/7, 365 days of the year. This will also make a lot of things cheaper.
A tax can be placed on them to help pay for basic income. Combined with a Value Added Tax or other taxes, it should be possible to provide everyone with income to pay for rent, utilities, and food.
sounds like another safety net which i don't mind if people used it as a fallback plan for taking on risky productive work; but to me, the problem is it may not incentivize innovation rather promote complacency; nevertheless i like yang for thinking different and working hard
@@flintfuentes7652 Basic income would be around $12K/year. I don't see how that would affect innovation. It would however greatly reduce crime, recidivism, and transform poor communities of color. Along with it, "racism" created from this socioeconomic oppression would disappear. (Maintained by welfare, which requires children grow up without a father, leading them to a life of crime which their community perpetuates.)
The benefits of a basic income would be vast and there would be little downside to it.
The current system maintains poverty and inequality, in order to incentivize people to join the middle class. It supports corporate culture which teaches people to abide through fear and intimidation.
@@orionxavier6957 call me skeptical. i'm thinking: how do you get someone in a low income community to pull him/herself out when you're handing them unconditional basic income. the ones who are driven will strive to succeed whether basic income is present or not. it's the ones who appear complacent and may not change their ways upon an infusion of basic income that raises a red flag for me. the point i'm missing is: how basic income will incentivize individuals to produce.
@@flintfuentes7652 The UBI pilots actually proved the opposite. Particularly people of low income were working more hours while receiving somewhere around $600/month. It also showed very little of that money was spent on recreational drugs, alcohol, etc., contrary to what people would suspect.
@@orionxavier6957 assuming these pilots translate into the real world, i can only hope UBI pays for itself. it's one thing to reduce poverty through wealth spread from top to bottom. it's another that the bottom has to do its part as well.
It worries me that Yang doesn't get a lot of hate, since the more influential you are the more hate you get lol.

So in your mind, one cheap shot from Yang means debate victory. Sorry. Adams won handily and most everybody with an unbiased view would agree with me. Only wishful thinkers give Yang a chance at ever winning. What a pointless candidacy. No solid ideas, just happy talk. NYC needs a Mayor who knows this city and has served it. Not some fly-by-night who lost at a national race and now wants to parachute into our local politics.
@@edancollins4442 I think Yang is a lightweight and his performance in the debate is "up for debate". So let's amicably agree to disagree. l will be supporting the Democratic primary winner in the general election, whichever candidate that may be .
