    • @laurencarpenter3154
      @laurencarpenter3154 Před 4 lety +3

      Donatello 9000, you can’t show jump bare back, you have to use a saddle. I’m not sure anybody would even want to do this bareback, as the stirrups can literally save your life. There are many people who do large jumps bareback, but they rarely ever do courses such as this. A lot of courses also include quick rollbacks and tough technical riding, so having the saddle to grip with you can engage your back muscles and steady quickly.

      @@LilyRoseBecker It's really bad for the horses spine when you ride them bareback.
      The most you should ride a horse without a saddle is 10 minutes, and jumping bareback is worse. The saddles are designed to take the pressure off of the horses spine and distribute it across the back without putting any on the spine.

      ElodieTK Hate to tell you this, and it's okay that you didn't know until now, but jumping does hurt the horse. A lot. In fact, probably MORE with metal shoes, considering metal had zero shock absorption.
      It's been proven, and yet ignored, that landing after a jump is detrimental to a horses health. 80% of a horse weight is what lands back down after a jump on their front legs, which are arguably more sensitive. This height is cruel, and all this video does is act as an example for how even horses hate jumping. This is cruel.

    • @lyssakate
      @lyssakate Před 7 lety +24

      Samthelonewolf • You are absolutely correct about the fact that the amount of weight coming down on their front legs off of a 4-5 ft. landing can be tremendously straining on their bodies. However, these horses go through constant and rigorous medical exams before and after each event like this to check for any inflammation, stress fractures, or any other physical ailments.
      Horses have obvious tell-tale signs of pain we'd be observing if they felt discomfort on the landing, and horses experiencing pain will refuse a jump this high 9/10 times no matter how well trained they are because they cannot build up the speed and velocity needed for takeoff when they are favoring one or more legs.
      Finally, they go through thorough drug testing prior to the event to check for any painkillers used to mask lameness. So it is very clear in their physical examination if they are: inflamed, sore in any areas of their legs, or if they have any visible marks from spurs or whips. In the case of spurs, any visible marks left on the horses' sides is a disqualifier, so we know they are not being abused in that way.
      My final point is this: any sport, human or animal, has serious health risks in regards to strain, stress and injury. But in jumping more than any other equestrian sport, it is very difficult to force a horse to perform that does not wish to or is in pain. Rodeo horses can be forced with spurs and whips to stop bucking or to run full-tilt, but a sport horse can not be forced to execute the precision it takes to make a 5 foot jump with abuse alone. There has to be a willingness there and a mutual trust built between horse and rider.
      TL;DR:
      Every precaution is taken with these animals to safeguard their health and to prevent pain & abuse. The horse has to want to perform and enjoy their work to execute these incredible jumps.

    • @samthelonewolf3307
      @samthelonewolf3307 Před 7 lety

      Lyssa Tomlin Does the constant medical testing not then PROVE that this is wrong? Why should these poor animals be involved in a sport where they have to be routinely checked for injury?

    • @lyssakate
      @lyssakate Před 7 lety +1

      ElodieTK Well said :) my point was we are overly cautious to protect them from any pain or abuse.
