Ehh, people freak out when they hear the word "structure" but it's not that big of a deal. I'm a dumb university professor and I've fixed an off-kilter structural wall. Just go slow and double check your measurements.

Hello! I am a 62 year old female so not really a target viewer per say, but let me tell you... you are amazing! My father was a master carpenter/cabinet maker and general handyman and he would be so impressed with you! You are excellent at this! I have watched almost all of your videos since your renovation of your concrete slab home and you are doing so good. Keep it going! Don't give up. You are smart enough to know when you need to step back breath and refocus when you hit a roadblock. There are always people who will know more or think they do but you let people know when you don't know what to do and then you figure it out. Yourdking fine. Keep up the good work.
If there ever was a project where hiring a structural engineer as a consultant was worth the money, this is it. Better to have a pro map out any unforeseen issues up front than the added stress of these surprises. Maybe worth considering for the next project. But really awesome job so far!

The way he is breaking it down may cost 2k-5k in disposal. He does it once like he said it’d be 20k-30k. I always surprises me every time I have to do something like that but demo guys charge a ton.

Hi mate, I'm a carpenter and the reason your walls are bowing out is due to the main ridge beam not being supported hence its sagging. If you can raise the ridge beam to its proper height the walls will pull back plumb, you may need to replace the ceiling joists as well as they would have sagged from all the weight. Hopefully this helps mate, keep up the great content!
I agree with the statement, also for such a long span, a steel I-beam would help in the long run for such a long span as an older garage rebuild.
Lol that, or the foundation is sh¡t! I'd go with foundation LOOOOONG before I'd start talking ridge beams. Just my opinion 🤷

When you were telling us your checklist on building the wall, you definitely didn’t mention the fact that you need treated lumber when touching concrete. Also code is when u have a splice in your bottom plate. u need anchors on both sides of the splice. Love the vids
I’ll be honest, and this in no way is meant to start off like I’m a hater, the quality of the videos overall felt weak since the “great door painting” of a couple years ago. BUT this episode, for me, completely erased any doubts. HUGE props to you for raising the roof and reframing everything the way you did. GIANT respect!

I'm addicted to this series. So inspiring honestly! After watching this I think I have the courage to make my first floating shelves now! Doesn't seem like much but sometimes it's hard to even get started!
I would add a roll up or double door to the back of the garage for bigger access to and from back yard. Also, you should sit down and do the math on those truss spans vs the size lumber used, not sure your there.
You should have used a laser level to make sure all the framing is level to one another because the concrete is not always level

This gives me some inspiration. I have a 10x12 shed that I have to build a support wall inside before I cut down the front half of the shed, to try and save half of it for random storage. Not cement foundation but I will remove the floor in front and see if the wood is still good. Lots of work for me but I'm going to take a look

I have to do this for my garage. Replace the back wall and side and the concrete slab adding a couple courses of cinderblock for water prevention since it wasn't done properly the first time around. This video has really helped in my planning. Thanks so much. Love this channel.

Collar ties Bro, you need at least a 2×6 or a 2×8 spanning from wall to wall tying into each rafter, and probably need to gusset all connection points. That will stop the weight of the roof from pushing the walls outwards and distribute the weight down the wall properly.

Tip with any glass (if you have any left to deal with) use sellotape and cover the entire pane, that way even if it shatters the sellotape holds all the shards together reducing chances of getting cut and also making cleanup easier.

Highly suggest checking if any permits were ever pulled or inspections were done during construction, I doubt it. If that's the case some places will force you to demolish it even if you re-build it up to code and get new permits. Check so you wont be throwing away all this effort and money. Also probably a good idea to frame in a side door or two while you have it all taken apart, especially if you plan on making separate back rooms for storage, much easier access.

Man go to harbor freight and get there air assist bottle jack. I use mine all the time for jacking up walls. Trust me you wont regret it. Hook it to a pancake air compressor and just pull the trigger. Its rated for 20 tons it will lift anything you want. I think it was $120

Bottom plate having pressure treated wood is BIG. Any form of a porous material that is on the ground will most likely have moisture buildup at some point. So that was a good call on the inspectors part. It sucks you had to change it, but better safe than sorry!
I had something like that but not as bad obviously. My whole oil heating system was installed on a wall that wasn't anchored anywhere. It was supported by 3 screws. On its other side, was a shower and sink, all anchored to the wall.
I had a plumber convert the oil system to electric. The system is used to warm water in a tank... That wad also anchored to the same flimsy wall.
What saved me was that the shower failed and I had to replace the floor. That's when I found out the wall didn't go to the floor or to the far end of it.
Rebuilt everything while managing to not touch any of the heating system. Everything now is anchored strong and hard. The feeling we get after doing such a task is amazing. Today I can say: I KNOW HOW TO BUILD A WALL A FLOOR, MIX CONCRETE, PLASTER... I KNOW STUFF NOW!!!!
Also, thumbs up for using Ryobi tools. An other proof that it's 15% the tools, 85% the craftman.

No matter what ANYONE tells you, eve with a silgasket you should have still used pressure treated lumber on the bottom plate. It’s cheap insurance to prevent rot.
Also - don’t forget to attach your Simpson Roof Ties from your rafters to your double top plate.

Just a heads up....A "T" post/brace is stronger than the doubled 2x4 when using the jack and the double topplate should overlap at your corner to lock it together...good luck with the rest of the tackling of that building

Just want to say huge props to you. Been following the channel a long time - and the quality is the best it's ever been. There was a weird patch in the middle where things got a little 'memey', but love the new content and direction.
To rectify mate, you will want to over jack (pre camber) the centre of the existing roof trusses back up, then laminate some additional struts to the top/bottom chords to take that deflection (sag) back out, you need to essentially create new trusses to span across your garage brother, dont forget to add in bottom chord binders/blocking to the trusses!
Such a great series. Love the idea of a full reno rather than little bits here and there. Was super satisfying watching the garage come together.

i have done this many times to do the jacking use a 4 x6 bean and 4x4 post and get a couple of 4x4 and then use a couple of pump jacks
I think you had it in reverse. I think the back sections original and the front was added on. That front window was a door ahah
