the "touch your balls before you jump" seatpost
This is excellent for my ebike. Used for mounting and dismounting ease and safety. It's nice riding my bike with the proper seat hight and dropping the post to stop especially at intersections and lights with my feet on the ground.
Always kinda wondered about these. One thing you missed is how hilariously inappropriate it looks operating it!
Yeah you are right, not only does it look inappropriate but it also feels inappropriate.
Interesting. One step better than a normal seat post with quick release
Hey guys, I'm looking into getting my first dropper. I watched the video and heard what advice you gave. However, since I'm new to a lot of this stuff the quick install looks tempting. I've watched a couple traditional cable installs and it looks daunting from my perspective. Would you recommend this to a guy like me? Thx
Like I said in the video, I can only recommend it if your trails have long climbs followed by long descents. The dropper is difficult to operate while riding. The routing of a traditional dropper post maybe daunting but to me, it's worth it.
@@OLKIEMTB Sounds good, thank you
Najboljsa inovacija, bravo.
thanks for this incredibly useful review!!!
I'm looking for my first dropper, and I liked how this dropper is simple and easy to install, without cable and that stuff. The price is a great atractive too.
As my local trails consist in long climbs and then lond descents, I think it will work fine for me.
Great review, thank you.
I think this post would work great for your riding conditions.
@@OLKIEMTB Yeah!
Are you still using it? Any problem? Is it easy and fast to go up and down?
I just ordered a new dropper and I will be installing it in a few days. But yes, I am still using it. It goes down fairly quick but it's kind of slow going back up.
@@OLKIEMTBThis was helpful. I’m considering a dropper for an ‘older’ bike.
Great review! Thank you! I think the advantage of thumb controlled droppers are those moments where you transition from a down slope to a climb. Those moments you really need both hands on the bars. I think we need to see more thumb operated droppers in the economy range.
I think it's better for commuters or like me a bicycle courier
Useful post if you don't need a mid ride adjustment. Good for slow ride adjustment or before or after purpose
Merch!! I want a hat!! Good video man! Keep it up. I'm learning so much
Okay dude, I will look into hats--just for you.
I had no idea that these kind of dropper posts were a "thing" I didn't know that they even existed. Thank you for the video!
They are great if you live somewhere that has huge climbs and then a long descent right after. Where I live it's not the best because my local trails have punchy climbs with quick downhill sections.
I've been kicking it around as I can't really figure out a "nice" way to install a dropper on my 2000 GT XCR. Figured this would look clean and still function better than no dropper. Might still be the best option for older bikes.
I put 100 mm version on my wife's 2003 Specialized Enduro FSR which is similar to your GT. Works great. Note this is the Chinese knockoff of the KindShock Eten lever version which I have on my 2009 GT Force. We ride in the Sierra, so long uphills and long downhills. They both work fantastically and will change your style of riding.
Well done sir!
The d7 is so beautifull!
Yup, Polygon is the best product in Indonesian
Yes it is
Bought this post and it works great.
Great review mentioning how it works great for simple fire road to downhill rides, but bad for up and down hills/technical terrain. Really considering getting this post since I ride jump trails/downhill tracks.
For what you intend to do with it, I think it will work well. Thanks for watching!
I don't try to adjust except to stop, or on flat, where I see the hill coming. This is not for racing; but for quick adjustments without having to get off the bike, this works great. What does not work, is trying to quick release and adjust without getting off the bike. Without this dropper; I have to physically get off the bike to adjust the seat height; and that really slows me down. If all I do is wait until it's flat, adjust and go while riding, that's great! My bike won't take a cable dropper; and they cost more; not worth it to me to have it installed by a pro; costs more than the dropper!
But at that point you either barely need it or it's just better to go with the other option. I have used one for a good few months (it broke, i really want another one :/) and i used it SOOO much i just can't imagine not having the lever. This is definitively better than having to get off the bike but if you're gonna spend money on a dropper i'd rather just get a better one
I'm building a emtb and have been thinking of getting one of these. I had the lever style on my other all mountain bike but think this might work!
Like the honesty. I feel the same way. It goes for any cable less dropper post. Seems like it could be dangerous at times and safety is always a factor with me. I guess if it is doing simple xc trails, it could be bearable but the price difference isn't that far off.
I need a dropper post on my atb hybrid not for midde-of-trail riding but easier dismounting and height adjustment each hop based on how I feel like it. Would this be it?
I’ve got the KS ETEN version and really like it. I agree that if you are constantly going up and down it’s not ideal but otherwise I really like it. I can also swap it quickly and easily between two bikes which is nice.
I'm glad it's working out for you. If I lived in a place with lots of mountains I would keep it on but I took mine off my bike.
Is the ETEN version a higher tiered dropper? I have the ETEN cable dropper on one of my bikes and love it. Smooth but a little slow coming up. Just ordered the EXAFORM for an older XC frame.
@@cassysamel3914 I think that’s the case? The Eten is more $ but I also have an exaform and it didn’t look much if any different. I didn’t compare them closely, just nothing stood out between them.
I live in an area that has steep up and down sections on gravel roads. I know a lot of people poo poo on the idea that a gravel bike needs a dropper but I don't care. These roads are steep and fast and I have ridden my Mountain Bike down some of them and having a dropper made feel much more in control.
I’m thinking about putting one on my FGFS bike, would be good for casual riders that come across an obstacle they can’t resist.
Is it possible to cut the lower of the post to get it into a shorter, interrupted seat tube all the way up to the collar? Or do the internal mechanics go all the way down?
I could see this on a unicycle😃
For sure.
That would work here in Colorado…where I live it’s climb all the way then decend all the way…and if there’s a few up amd downs then the dropper stays down and I stand up on most of the downhills
This would work awesome for bicycle sharing. Me and my wife sharing the Cargo bicycle. Is such seat post also cushioned by the compressed air? Or rather a position changing rigid seat post.. would be totally awesome if like a office chair also provided minimal dampening to somewhat rougher bumpy roads
I had thought they would be a pain. An external routed post with lever right now from a decent company is at least $200 but seems the only real way to go.
does it provide suspension like the reverb or paw coast droppers?
Having a cable dropper on my trail bike got me so used to east in and easy dismount that I bought this type for both my gravel bike and fat bike. Not ideal for on the fly, as you found.
Very good review and deals with exactly the issues needed to be addressed. While not the choice for MTB, this post does seem to fit the bill for commuter and gravel bikes.
I think this type of dropper is more useful on touring bikes not mountain bikes. For mountain bikes the cockpit lever is the optimal setup.
I put a cable through the water bottle holder hole and routed it through the seat post to the seat clamp so everytime I use the quick release, i would pull the seat back up at the right height everytime. Can't imagine using a regular seat dropper. This would change my life
On my bike i don’t have the option for seat post cables do you think it would work fo my situation
great review. I have this on my bike. Maybe someone can help me with an issue here--I thought my seat was loose and that it just needed to be tightened. Turns out that the bolt was not loose. It seems that the top of the post, the lever, and the seat move together. what could be the problem?
Seems to me riding over a plank doesn’t require the seat being dropped, and that in more situations where a bike should be ridden with seat down, the rider knows well in advance and should adjust the seat accordingly.
This seatpost seems like a great no-fuss solution for folks who need to use dropper occasionally:
It was just to demonstrate having to adjust the seat post on the fly. I think this post is best for people who don't need to constantly raise and lower their seat on the fly.
777 views jackpot dude😂
Thanks for the informative video. Looking for an inexpensive and easy to use dropper for my kids. Do you think kids under 12 can operate the lever easily or is the spring force too strong? I also question whether small hands can efficiently grab both saddle and lever in order to get enough leverage to operate.
I think they could operate the lever, not sure about them being able to get their hands around the saddle though.
@@OLKIEMTB Thanks!
I was gonna get one and customise it, attach a lever to the handle via cable
Yup I felt the same way. I have one on my bike and it sucks
Its only good if you climb a huge hill and then ride back down it.
I want to get one of those so I can limit the amount of cables to my cockpit. Thinking about building a slope duro and this with the new gx wireless shifting might be cheapest and coolest way to make a barspinable bike park machine
A wireless shifter with an 80 dollar dropper is hilarious to think about
@@marioman2471 agreed, at that point why not just get an AXS dropper?
Okay good..now m gonna look like I am playing with my family jewels while riding.
Hi, have you been able to use it much and could you answer some questions for me? as I'm looking at gettin one.
Does it have a Schrader valve for air pressure or is it just a pre loaded cartridge inside, meaning the pressure is not adjustable?
I noticed splines on the saddle rail clamp, are you able to tilt the saddle backwards or forwards to adjust your seated position with these splines? As I noticed there's only one bolt rather than the usual two.
Is there much side to side play in the saddle after it's fixed in position?
Thanks
It’s an internal release and lock mechanism… there is no air spring. It moves to where you move it and release the lever and it stays
There is one bolt towards the back that allows for seat adjustment for-aft and tilt just like any other seat post
There is very little play in the saddle post. I use one for my Fatbike and use it while trail riding
It’s not the best but for 60 bucks it’s great for a budget bike and it adds a lot of capability for a bike
Is it possible to adjust the inclination of the saddle with it? I would like to use it on a road bike and I don't see the double screw to do it. Thanks
Yes it’s fully adjustable in tilt and back and forth. Does it with one bolt in the back
Please o a video with olnly footage of that Siskiu d7!
What do you mean? This video is all D7 footage minus the first 15 seconds.
@@OLKIEMTBI have the same bike and wanted a wireless dropper post
A wireless dropper is half the price of the bike.
Spend the extra money and get a remote operated dropper.
Any idea how much this 150mm dropper post weighs on its own without a saddle?
1.2 pounds. It's not lightweight.
Maybe for gravel bikes ?
How about the quality of the build and the lever?
Build quality was great but the lever wasn't that great. Pretty mediocre.
I just got it today and realized that the trigger has to be pressed to go up and down instead of locking on the top to provide all time suspension. The workaround I found for it to work at all time is to strap the lever to the seat rails so it provides suspension at all time. Has anyone tried that?
That is an interesting idea!
OLKIE I will test it some time this weekend. May be making a review video for it since I have two bikes and two of these seat posts of difference travels - 100 and 125 mm.
George PPS that sounds like a great way to use the Droller seat post does it work well from your experiences and with the lever strapped up to the rail how do you adjust the height ?
Am a little confused here. Won't doing that cause your seat to slam when you're pedaling sitting down?
Yes, it would.
What size Polygon are you riding?
It's a large.
So for downhills it's pretty pointless but on flats/tarmac could be a good investment?
If you have long climbs and then long downhills right after it's great. But for quick climbs and descents it's not good.
@@OLKIEMTB Great thanks for the tips.👍🏻
You are welcome!
Any way to move the switch to the side or back
Not that I'm aware of. I guess you could rotate the post 180 degrees, but you would have to take off the seat and install it the other way.
I think that would make a big difference
The seat post has an offset to the rear to keep the lever from protruding forward of the Saddle. If you rotated the post you would have to adjust the tilt significantly
There really is no problem using the post as it’s designed
I use it on my Fatbike trail riding all the time. It also makes it easy to drop your post when you place it on the car rack and lower the drag while driving
Now i could use my mountain bike as my office chair...
Heck yeah!
Only if traditional droppers didn't cost 3x more right
#Girls be like "That guy is perbert!".
One reason to try it! Cool!!! 😂
I bought one ks exaform 30,9 but does not fit into my bike, the original post i have installed in my bike is 30,9. i should go for a 27 mm post!?
This is Polygon Bike?
Yes it is.
Let me drop your post for you lol
ahahahaha
Nothing for me. Holy shit.
Kind Shock Lev V3 150mm is mine and i love it.
Grease your pole bro😉
So you wanna sell the post ? Lol
I should have returned it but now I'm outside the return window.
OLKIE sell it to me I always stop on the trails to hit my quick release, this just seems better 😂
@@AlamoCityFishing Its only 53 bucks on amazon.
If the rider use this dropper in urban area, other passagener will think the rider is touching his nuts.
Just for joking. Have a nice day.
That is what it looks like.
The Hydro version of that dropper post sucks. They're too slow to extended. I prefer the non-hydro version but they're difficult to find now. For sure, tho, the non-hydro is so much better and can extended as fast as you can stand up on the pedals.
