OK so frist i am not defending his character, i am just telling what i understood...Shen yurong was a very dynamic character, you can't judge him with black and white ideaology...cudos to writer...I hated him at the beginning of the drama but can't help to pity him....ruining his wife's reputation was not his idea but his mom's , he didn't knew about that... His mom under princess instructions did it on her own... Now killing her , think about it if he didn't kill her, the princess would have killed XFF and with that princess would have killed his mother, sister...
Xue family destruction would have taken place with or without Shen you rong... If i thing of long way Princess didn't bother to kill XFF's brother and father because she was happy XFF died , which only she needed because she was the biggest obstacle... If Shen yurong didn't kill XFF , Princess would have in anger not only killed XFF's family but also Shen yu rong's family....Princess just used his hands to be dirty so that in future he couldn't say that i am clean, you did whatever happened....He doesn't have father , so he is the protecter and provider of the house, he had no choice... She is a princess, a powerful person and backing from king Chen makes it more difficult for him...Don't compare him with Duke Su... Duke Su was born in powerful family and with time he made good political bonds and knows court politics very accurately.. Shen yurong was a poor family man who wanted to be good scholar but it was her mother's greed which brought him to court politics for higher position...He just wanted to keep his promise he made to his father on death bed....Saving XFF was quite impossible for normal guy like him, yeah Duke Su could have done those things..
All and all Shen yurong had no way to survive...He had a very bad fate..
