- The Isley Brothers are a highly influential, successful and long-running American music group consisting of different line-ups of six brothers, and a brother-in-law, Chris Jasper. The founding members were O'Kelly Isley, Jr., Rudolph Isley, Ronald Isley and Vernon Isley.
Starting their careers in the gospel performing circuit in the early 1950s, they eventually crossed over to secular music first finding modest success in doo-wop until the release of their first million-selling hit, "Shout", in 1959.

RIP the two members of The Isley Brothers
Rudolph Isley (April 1, 1939 - October 11, 2023), aged 84
O'Kelly Isley Jr. (December 25, 1937 - March 31, 1986), aged 48
You both will be remembered as legends.
Don't forget Marvin ❤
Rest in peace
The Isley Brothers are an integral Eternal part of Rock n Roll history, thanks and praise🙏 to Jesus Christ, Our Lord!
they were taking folks STRAIGHT to church with this one
😅🤣😂😅
I thought the same thing!
RIP Rudolph Isley! One of the most epic songs ever!
I saw the Isley Bros perform this in 1962 when I was a Junior in high school in NJ - they headlined a big Rock&Roll show at THE Brooklyn Fox. It was fantastic! They must have been on stage doing this for 20 minutes. The audience was almost as exhausted at the end as the 3 performers who were even more energetic than seen here. They jumped off a chair repeatedly & led the audience in the "a little bit softer now" & into the "a little bit louder now" w/ great enthusiasm. Now 58yrs later I can still "see" them doing that show. BTW a still relative newbie Dione Warwick was also in that show. But it was the Isley Bros who made the show! (I don't even remember who the other performers were..... :)
so lucky to have seen that.
Lucky!
What a time🤩
Wow
thanks for sharing this! the good ol' days!
It's impossible to listen to this song and stay in a bad mood
Yes
We're about to find out.
Ok?
@@deadartist8827 are you alright now brother?
Amen!!!
Hard to believe that this song did not even make Billboard's Top 40. It is one of the most remade songs of all time.
It is one of the best songs of all time ❤
@@laurah6845 Yes it is but for some reason, it was not very popular when it was initially released.
@@georgfriedrichhandel4390 The only possible thing I could think of why the song didn't make the Top 40, is its gospel music style, perhaps? The Isley Brothers did start out as gospel singers in the very beginning of their music career. Maybe some people viewed the song as too 'church-y'. I view it as brilliant perfection. What a song ❤
@@laurah6845 Your guess is as good as mine. It's one of my favorite songs also. My theory is that, this being the late 50s, it didn't get much airtime on radio stations and thus was not given much exposure. Yes, it is indeed a great song!
I don't know if the pop music listening world would have known what to make of this in '59. It may be rooted in gospel, but the screaming vocals and uptempo rhythm evoke hardcore punk a quarter century before its time. I hear this song when I listen to "Sailin' On" Bad Brains.
This could be released in 3032 and still be a #1 on the billboards. What a banger.
Who
It would be like a rap tho
100%
If only they still created gems like this! 👏👏
@@The_CloudyKnight you have no idea what rap is
RIP Rudolph Isley
Dude...this was 1959. I was born in 96. It's mind blowing for me to watch and listen to music from this far back
LET YOUR MIND BLOW WILD!! ITS BETTER THAN TODAYS ZANY MUSIC. LEGEND. Got my autograph,, kid
Id say From Late 50s to early 90s was the golden age of music
@@jeremiahdansereau2950 Depends on the viewpoint. For some, great era of music ended with the great composers of the 19th century. For some, it began in the 80s or 90s. I do not think we can settle for a one-size-fits-all answer on that.
Born in 97 right here and I'm shocked and enjoying it at the same time like WOW!!!
I'm 2005
What should I say?😂
They're raising the roof in Heaven tonight.
RIP Rudolph Isley
It's nice to see Verzuz expanding people's knowledge of the Isley Brothers. I'm pretty sure most people my age and younger thought the Isley's only dated back to the 70's lol.
Naw my grandma bumped this on her record player growing up in the 90s
Kind of unbelievable that these are the same men that made my all time favorite oldies especially voyage to Atlantis. Seems worlds apart. The longevity of the Isley’s is something truly amazing. Legends for sure.
I completely understand the sentiment. I'm in awe at their longevity and creativity
@@djbush3936 Me too. Just watched The Who cover this live in 1965
Yes!! Then Ron had a hit with Contagious in the 2000s!! Like who has been in the game that long!?! That’s crazy!!
@@kay-collins right? Shout came out in 1959 and contagious came out in 2001. They made hits all in between there. That’s a crazy amount of success
@@alicemiriah yesss! I love them! I didn’t even know back then they been in the game since the 50s! That’s a crazy long music career.
Wow, I had no idea the Isley Brothers originally made this song. Talk about old school.
The Isley brothers gave the Beetles ground to walk on in the U.S with twist and shout and shout they played these black songs to white audiences
I really do like the temptations version of this
@@darthfushang1 Ringo Starr said when they did Twist and Shout things really took off. However it was originally done by The Top Notes 📝
Those Brother's are Bad to the bone....
Me either😊
in my humble opinion the Isley brothers mixed doo wop with gospel to create this incredible sound....
foda se
whatever they did I love it :)
Solid E: they mixed it with gospel? wow...
I can hear it. The style, maybe even some of the words.
I just was saying this!! i was wondering why this sound like this could've sounded like a gospel song about Shouting for Jesus lol.
The Isleys pushed the envelope with this 45 Shout part 1 and 2. A very good group, and they deserve where they are. In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This is serotonin in musical form
I like that 👍🏼
That's exactly what that is bro!!!!
OMG they looked like they had so much fun singing this song, they just did as pleased.
Renata Wilson how can they not? Pretty much any situation you hear this song people lose their minds
My favorite part is when Ron drops to the floor and basically the camera man loses track of him and brother Randolph (on the left) doing those ‘Wooo!’ while him and O’Kelly dancing in circles swinging those arms.
No, they did not. What rubbish.
@BFN VIC You're thinking of 'Twist and Shout.'
RIP Rudolph 😢
When coronavirus over, we gonna shout! DAMN 487 SHOUTS THANK YALL
And kick our heals and throw our hands up!
I hear ya! I'll be there with ya!
Doobee doobap
But will we do it with Billie Joe? Cause' Billie was having a great time "Shout"ing and being "King For A Day"!
Yep
Oh Man! I love that song, such energy those brothers had! I'm now an old lady but I got up and danced to this gem. Loved the brothers, they brought such great music and fun to a bygone era. May Rudolf rest in peace, but not too much... I hope he's still dancing and SHOUTING!
Thank you Isley Brothers, for your tremendous contribution to our happiness with your great talent!
I remember when bands covered this song at the end of dances when I was a teen. One of the best memories I have of that time! The Isley Brothers were amazing.
This is the greatest party song ever made.
Ronald's electrifying energy and voice was great for it
This sog is 60 years old and still jamming at weddings, proms and Bad Music Night!!
WORD!
now the minnesota wild goal song in the nhl!
I was just remarking on how Ronald "Mr. Biggs" Isley is STILL making hits!! The only artist of this ('50s) era!! REMARKABLE!!!!
i think in ten years it is still a hit
and the men who sang it are still jamming as well!!!
I know the song but I came from verzuz cause I didn’t know this was the Isley brothers song🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽
Same. I thought it was Jackie Wilson 🤯
Same verzuz brought me here .
They wrote it too
Please say that again
Look at Mr Biggs

At least you died wile you were doing what you love
@Mr swampy ass Donnie the trumpsta humpsta Was that supposed to be funny?
Ouch, when that happened, did you.. um.. shout?
@@jenniferdavies4420 LMAO I think you meant to say "popped", but it was funnier this way, haha! =)
The history of "Rock" came straight from the gospel sounds of the deep south. Christians did exactly this music in their pentecostal churches. They wailed and shouted, moaned and groaned, jumped up and down in the Lords spiritual presence of their churches. The music helped sooth their difficult circumstances. This sound of praise and worship was picked up by talented afro musicians and brought to the so called secular music world. It was well embraced by many whites led by a one Elvis Presley. Many Americans who also wanted their spirits to be uplifted in their own privileged circumstances enjoyed the music... Isley brothers played their part...we thank them.
Thank you. Accurate history and well-stated.
This is why black lives matter 🔌🙌🏾
This song played at my grandma’s funeral. It was sad to see her go, as I loved her dearly, but this song was uplifting and really encapsulated her personality as a person. I hope you’re doing well Granny.
The way the singer goes from "A little bit louder now" to "AHHLITTLE bit louder now!" is so powerful, its almost as if life throws him this exciting moment and he can barely handle it. I cannot stop listening
Hell Yeah!!!
White boy WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?? No that's not what it was like 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Who else is out there listening to this banger during quarantine??

We say goodbye for now to Rudy ...thanks for the music
There just isn't talent like this anymore. If anyone is in a rotten mood, play this song, it'll lift you up.
A lot of groups have covered this song. Nobody can beat the Isley Brothers.
I agree. Nobody can match how electrifying this is and the energy Ronald has here with the other two
The Isley Brothers performed at our senior boys dance in 1962. Never forgot!
Thank you, Mr. Isley, for the gifts you left behind.
RIP Mr.Isley
wow the isleys career longtivity is amazing....They went from the rock n roll era to smooth soul and even being sampled in hip hop songs....Amazing
TriLLBeatz 334 my exact observation. Makes you wonder why when you hear about the greats like Jackson 5, Earth Wind and and temptations The Isley Brothers is not equally mentioned along with them
Dont forget the started in Gospel in the early 50's.

@@Goldfeathers7 The temptations performed this song as well and I wondered who originated the song for a while but the Isley Bros did
Rest in peace Rudolph Isley. Thank you for all the great songs
One of the songs at my funeral...SHOUT!!!
One of the miracles of modern science is how Ron did not blow a vocal cord on this song and is still singing almost 65 years later. 😮
Back when music was made from the soul :)
RIP Rudolph Isley 🖤
Man. The world and music were built different back then.
RIP to Rudolph Isley! Great song and group!!!!
You know it's a great song when you've heard several different versions of it, and all of them are great.
Like the Girl from Ipanema.
Every time I watch the Ronettes sing Shout live...
I always say the Isley Sisters
This is my absolute favorite version though. I ALWAYS end up back here where it started. 👏👏💚❤
From Shout to Contagious Ron been dropping hits for 50+ years. You can't name another artist with his kind of longevity. Ron's voice is similar to fine wine. It's sad because he won't be truly recognized as one of the GOATs until he's gone. Easily one of the most recognizable voices in music outside of James Brown, Barry White and MJ.
Say it, I was thinking the same thing! I'd love to hear the story of Ron's life.
Michael Jackson was close.
I SWEAR TO GOD!!! I was just telling my sister this!!! STILL making hits!!!

You’re not alone in this thought, brother.
RIP Mr. Rudolph Isley. He co-wrote these bangers with his brothers.
Masterclass 2023☝🏽
One thing about the Isley Brothers, no matter how much you hate to dance or don't even know how, everyone gets up and jumps around, because there is no way you can just sit still. At my wedding when the band sang this song, even the seniors at my wedding and some were in their 70's and 80's were bouncing around. The Isley Brothers - one of the greatest performers of all time!
I love the part where the Main singer just like falls on the ground and his other two brothers just look like little kids playing airplanes with there arms to the side flying around everywhere

To think Ronald Isley (lead singer) was only 18 at the time.

What! He was fine! Damn!
It's so funny seeing them so young and skinny.
the other two would of been twenty and twenty- one. It is not quite 4 years that separate all of them.

I'm 75 and still got some groovy moves ! In my mind this takes me to high school dances in the gym .
Pure traditional black gospel shout music with secular lyrics. It's fantastic.
I didn't even know they sang this! 💋
I think churches adopted this in the praise breaks back in the day.
Still today though
It's the other way round. This sort of music originated in black churches
Actually the Isley brothers borrowed from the "sanctified music"/"praise break"/"shout" music style for this song. You have the geneaology flipped
my church still uses this song in their choir
Marvin,Shout sounds like it came right out of a Black Baptist Church
I am 80 now. Living in Querétaro. But as a teen and young lady. I loved the Isleys
You can clearly see the influence the Beatles drew from these guys everything down to the dance moves.
I was born in 1988 and I LOVE the 50's , 60's and 70's ♥️
Born in 1953, and I lived through all of this wonderful music!
Rock as a format was way less defined in The 70s though. 50s Rock is pretty much always Americana or something similar.
Doo wop is in my top 3 favorite music genres. I'm an 86 baby. We both have great taste in music clearly 😎
You a SMART patron. Keep nursing at the breast of all life....inside!
I'm convinced this song initiated the Big Bang. It's pure explosive energy.
These boys had no problem doing their own thing baby!!!

Life is tough, but I feel lucky not to be among the 500+ who gave this a thumb's down. Life must really suck for them.
Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't the song they objected to, but the additional imagery edited onto this Isley Brothers video. Their lives might be perfectly fine apart from that.
It definitaly was the insensible and unneeded imagery adding that made me hit the thumb down. People with a lack of empathy might have a good life, but it must suck to be around them, at times.
Agreed, the performance was way better than the bullshit they cut in. The brothers were killing it then they thought maybe a guy in black face would be better here....
