I think both is true, there are covers and there are tributes. A tribute e.g. is Nightwish - High Hopes.
I think people compare only to say that you did it awfully good, like, as good as the inventer himself.
Ok - I was scared before pushing play as I really love that song. There are a lot of memories and emotions connected to that song. But it’s perfect. She has a voice like liquid gold. And a gratitude like silver lining.

Pretty much flawless, I guess a lot of people would be blindfolded listening to the original and this version (beside the woh-oh before the solo) would have a real hard time finding out which one is you and which one is the original.
