    The UV part of this made me think that could've vampires been born from rumours of people who don't go outside? My thought process is that in "the olden days" there where people who didn't go outside and therefore had pale skin and also looked young for their age. • @Michelle_Wellbeck
      @Michelle_Wellbeck Pƙed 2 lety +6

      My own take is that the social idea of a "pageant" which is rooted in a past culture, in the present context is incongruent with a normal person's conception of beauty.
      The idea of a pageant or "beauty competition" can be seen as an evolved form of a convention in feudal society where a prince or king, "the king" would choose from among a group of women presented to them (to be as theor wife, concubine, or otherwise). This idea is maybe represented more closely in shows like "the bachelor", but I digress,
      In vying for the favor of the king, as everyone wants to be the chosen, the contestants aim to fit themselves into the image of an ideal that they believe, or is popularly thought, to be the image desired by the king. Coming back to the modern idea of the pageant, as society changed from feudal to modern "the king" is replaced by "the people", as the winner of a pageant is seen as the choice of the people (albiet selected by way of a panel of judges).
      What constitutes the image of beauty among the people is therefore manifested in the contestants, but the disconnect occurs because where the king's image of beauty is individual and specific, the people's image of beauty is shared and general.
      Where a contestant can't really fit themselves into the image of beauty held by an individual as this image is ideosyncratic, they can fit themselves into the image of beauty held by society as a contestant can just take the image thouht to be held by lots of individuals, or in other words the "average" image of beauty in a society.
      When we think of our own image of beauty, does the image of the "average" pageant contestant come to mind? I think that in most cases it would not.

    I think it's not right to advise people to avoid the sun altogether. Excessive sun exposure is harmful but moderate sun exposure (10-15 min. per day, not in peak hours) is recommended. This is not my opinion, it is a general medical advise. The reasons for this:
    1. Sun exposure is important not only for Vitamin D but for cognitive function (affects mood) and circadian rhythm regulations.
    2. Sun exposure is crucial for vitamin D synthesis for people who do not take supplements on a regular basis (the majority of people). Also, the vitamin D produced by exposure to UV rays stays longer in our system compared to Vitamin D taken in the form of supplement.
    On a side note, I would like to add that sun-induced aging is just one component of aging, since it affects mainly the skin. The aging of the face involves not only skin changes but also changes in soft tissues and bones.

I’m learning about different health myths with nature so yeah. People seem to only want to take care of themselves so how others will view them which is understandable but forget how they are to feel from taking of themselves in small ways like eating healthy to fuel yourself rather than someone will think you’re attractive.

    I definitely don’t agree about nobody looking good bald. I think, for the most part, it can be super rejuvenating for a lot of men who are thinning or have severe recession. It can easily take off 10 years, especially with a smooth head shape. When you try to fight the balding, it only leads to disappointment when the inevitable happens. There are ways to maximize the hair you have to give the illusion of more hair with the right haircut, and having hair in the right spots, but once there’s no remedy for it - I would suggest shaving it. Rather than having patchiness that ages you, or hair replacement systems that ultimately don’t truly boost your confidence because you know it isn’t yours, come time to take it off. Better to just accept it, and give yourself a nice uniform look that may very well shed a couple years from your overall look. Personally, I wouldn’t go through the money, stress, or insecurities of hair replacement systems, or hair fibers, etc - I’d simply shave it and vaya con Dios.

  • @anemartinez6794
    @anemartinez6794 Pƙed 2 lety +51

    1. I would like to point out that contrary to popular belief, taking collagen supplements have little to no effect in slowing down, preventing or reversing the loss of collagen. When ingested collagen is broken down into amino acids that our body can't assimilate as "collagen" anymore, besides, supplements don't go magically to the specific part of the body that lacks what we are supplementing. It's like trying to moisturize dry skin by drinking a glass of water instead of putting an actual moisturizer on your face.
    So if you want to prevent it effectively, just apply a broad spectrum sunscreen everyday and reapply every 2 hours (you can add antioxidant product before sunscreen for major prevention). And if you want to reverse it, vitamin c and retinoids are the most effective and well studied treatments for increasing collagen production.
    2. I also wanted to point out that the ingredients mentioned to protect from visible light (Iron Oxides and Titanium Oxides) are the same ones that "give color" to almost every foundation/concealer. So if you are very concerned about blue light (it affects mainly to phototypes III, IV, V and VI) or visible light in general, I would recommend to opt for wearing make up, a BB cream with spf or the tinted sunscreen (as they recommended) over the "normal" sunscreen.
    Since the shade and undertone range of tinted sunscreens is so limited, people probably won't apply the correct amount in order to avoid looking grey or orange. So relying solely on a tinted sunscreen will probably give you a lacking protection or a horrible makeup look. That's why I wanted to recommend to use a foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly after you've applied and let dry the mandatory 2 fingers of sunscreen. But in case you don't wear make up, you can apply the tinted sunscreen instead without worrying about applying to much or to little.
    pd: I found this video super unique and interesting! Thank your for such a great content ❀

    I have an allergy to UV light, so I can give good advice on how to actually avoid it. Like a vampire. I rarely go out in the sun, and when I do, I wear
    1. Clothes to cover most of my body. Saves money and effort on putting sunscreen everywhere. The clothes can't be too thin. Don't wear white- I know it sounds counterintuitive, because black absorbs more heat than white, but white is actually bad because it reflects the light onto your exposed skin, like a tanning reflector.
    2. Sunscreen, just like you said. It really needs to contain some type of metal, like titanium oxide. Don't forget the ears, and *don't forget the lips*. Chapstick with UV protection is sold, and if you must, you can typically layer lipstick over top. Another thing is that you *must re-apply*. Read the packaging of whichever sunscreen you have for specifics, but it's usually every 2-3 hours that you must re-apply. Concerning makeup, it's possible to buy makeup products with SPF instead of just tinted sunscreen, but of course you must do your homework on what you're buying. Asian makeup lines tend to offer SPF more often, due to beauty standards in said countries. Pressed powder foundations with mica may offer additional protection.

    My opinion on glow ups: glow ups are so overrated and are making people get procedures without thinking it through. Everything is about ‘glowing up’ now and absolutely not loving yourself the way you are. Even "just be confident in yourself" doesn't work the whole thing is based on fake it till u make it since many ppl naturally don't have something to be confident abt whether it's a skill, face, body or even height! the whole "Love the yourself" is pretty limiting and moreover, women-focused! The advancement in that space is just incredible and also most importantly it’s a temporary solution which I think is a really big advantage. Also....... "Tinted" sunscreen isn’t tinted to block out more of the UV spectrum. It’s tinted with foundation to enhance the appearance of the skin. Botox doesn’t "freeze" anything. It paralyzes the muscles temporarily. So that the overlying skin no longer gets scrunched repeatedly during squinting or smiling or furrowing of the brow. Thus giving that skin a chance to relax and smooth back out. The volleyball player you mentioned probably smiles a lot. Plus...... In order to keep his sunglasses on, he probably raises his nose muscles up and squints quite frequently whilst having his mouth open. Thus contributing to the appearance of pronounced Nasolabial folds.

    Therefore any newer filters have to go through a whole lot of red tape before approval.
    Because of this extreme precaution the U.S. has to rely on zinc oxide for the best UVA protection (UVA-B, which in itself is very subpar).
    Americans can only get mediocre UVA protection if they don't order their stuff from anther continent

      Maybe you should get an appointment with a doctor before running into conclusions. There are many causes that lead to hair fall after all. I have PCOS along with stress so that might explain my hair fall. Try to incorporate food that would improve the overall condition of your hair. Have a solid hair care routine that would strengthen your hair and your scalp. And yes, sickness can also lead to hair thinning 😅 so take care of yourself and focus on healing 💖

      May be the type of sunscreen you are using. I recommend doing some research and splurging on a higher quality brand. It'll be pricier but it's worth the investment, and what u can do is switch between the expensive and cheap one. Definitely wash your face at the end of the day!

    The comment about baldness and the model industry is so lame. Models are young men often under 25 yo. There are few chances to find bald young men. There is a universe between beeing bald as a mature man and receding as a young man.
    Moreover the comment Tinder is also lame. On this app we will find more young men under 30 yo than mature men around 40 and over. And it's the same for the women.
