    Oh thank goodness for this. Do you know how difficult it was to find an audio version of this book? Truly appreciate this and the internet right now.

    Thank you for this series. I have always wanted to take the time to read these classics but having them read to me means my hands are free to do other things.
    This first one is a perfect illustration on how to put an arrogant fool in his place!

    When attributing concepts found in the platonic dialogues. Do we attribute them to Plato or Socrates?

    • @lewiskirk8289
      @lewiskirk8289  Před 2 lety +7

      I always attribute them to Plato. He is using Socrates as a mouthpiece. In my opinion.

      @@lewiskirk8289 Knowing nothing of course when I first studied this fifty-three years ago, I attributed your "concepts" to Plato, and the integrity, the goodness, to Socrates. Unlike the Gospels, written centuries after the events occurred (or didn't), I assumed Apology had to resemble somewhat the conversations that had occurred, if not that day, on that topic. For example, the Socrates created in a young girls' head would have never have disparaged theatre (even just to make a point), I remember arguing heatedly at 15/16 for a distinction I had entirely invented.

      @@lewiskirk8289 I am now interested in other dialogues, I have come to the conclusion it was only an emotional desire not fueled by logic. However I have started listening to another dialogue. I am wondering whether this action I want to do shall cause harm or not.
      The bigger question is why I'm thinking about this as a 15 year old. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

      Exactly!
      It is a very contemporary and simplified way of phrasing the matter, but it is a solidly correct conclusion I believe.
      Anyone who tells you homosexuals are not a critical part of the western canon is either misguided in their knowlege or misleading to serve an ahistorical agenda or both.
