    Informative with banter 😅 seemingly lads have fitted ford 7810 wet brakes to the backend of the crystal. Have to plug hole up but I'd still leave in the seal to preventing cross contamination far better system and morereliable !!! Only reason I'm saying this is the friction material on the brake disk from after market zetor parts fade like mad. Depends what your going to use it for. Use to draw sugar beet to carlow with a 14145 😂😂 trailer breaks system is fairly handy with 20t+ load behind 🙄other wise you're going to be stopping in the next county !!!!
    Also dont use the springs from zetor in the brake system the tend to snap.one's off a 188 massey should fit if I remember correctly 😅
    So basically what I'm saying is modify the the shit out of her and make it a front line animal 😂😂you seem to be more than capable!!! Anyway great job keep up the good work

      Cheers, these tractors are underrated and I can only see prices increasing as there is alot of nostalgia with the brand. Alot of agri contractors got established around the munster area using Crystal's as early workhorses.

    • @BackyardMechCon
      @BackyardMechCon Před 3 lety

      Good advise there with the work shop manual.
      Theres no problem doing it yourself as long as you've the same information (torque spec's mainly in this case) that the rebuilders/mechanics have.
      You've laid it out and are refitting the parts in the same order (bar the upgrades) that they came out so the diagram, while extremely useful, would not be 100% essential. Where the manual would come into play though would be orientation of washers for instance. Some might be flat on one side and conical on the other. I don't know what's inside of this is like but if your replacing the same as your taking out there shouldn't be a problem.
      Torque specs for the "hand tight" nut in this case especially could be the difference in the box lasting or chewing itself down the road.
      There is a torque spec for that nut and I bet it can be found. Hopefully your viewers can help. It may potentially save a lot of heart ache if you could find it.
      It's a balls about that bar having to be cut out but it is what it is. Nothing worse than piecing it together having to find you've to cut it out 😅. How does the other one fit in if this has to be cut out?
      I'm not sure what kind of time it took to get it to that stage but be sure cutting it is the last option and if it is then a large magnet would help retrieve the filings from whatever protective cover you put over the gears before cutting the bar.
      Good job. Best of luck with it! 😃

    • @CianKenneally
      @CianKenneally  Před 3 lety +1

      @@BackyardMechCon even if I knew the torque spec for that nut its not a normal hex nut so I would have no way of using a torque wrench on it 😥 not sure what the name of the but is you probably can't see it too well in the vid. The selector shaft I cut would usually just slide out but there was a big lump of weld on it so it wouldn't fit through the hole, I dunno if you watch my previous vids but those shafts have a hole in them and they break where the hole is so instead of taking out the gearbox to replace the broken shaft guys just welded the shaft back together in place. I got new shafts for an older model that didnt have the hole in them so they won't break 👌

    • @BackyardMechCon
      @BackyardMechCon Před 3 lety

      @@CianKenneallyFair enough, thanks for the reply, I did look through them alright but the only part I picked up that needed or had welding was the main casting. Thanks for setting that straight 👍. It can be hard to go over old ground with new viewers 😅.
      That nut is probably a "special tool" type deal. I'm not too sure what the profile of it is but I'm sure you could tack weld a socket to a lump of metal that matches the profile of the nut (you'll have to make it) and stick the torque wrench into the back of the nut... (I'm not too sure how proficient you are with a welder or grinder though).
      With all these things sometimes it can be better to throw caution to the wind and drive on. Looking forward to seeing the progress!
      Best of luck 😃.
