  • Today I wanted to review a figure I found at Walmart recently, the BST AXN Shredder in Hell from the Loyal Subjects. A $30 action figure with alot to offer, from a company who seems to be working to improve on their figures. A worthwhile conversation raised about whether or not other smaller figure companies have an opportunity to break into this market. With Hasbro and Mcfarlane Toys running into their own sets of issues, maybe The Loyal Subjects can make their mark.

Saw this at Wal-Mart and I was tempted. I don't need another Bst Axn Shredder though.

TLS have improved massively. They still have work to do but I’m happy I got the Raph today.. he’s so much better than the last LTS figure I got. I’ll get the rest of the Turtles and perhaps this shredder as well if the Scale is right.
IDW was great for 100 issues. So if they keep improving and make figures based on those 100 issues.. I’ll support them.
They just have to keep improving. They’re getting there.
I’d still get these guys over ML tho.. which I dropped over a year ago.
Edit: With his torso being so meh.. do you think it could be heated up, popped apart and Dremeled a little bit?

agree 100%. and I do believe dremeling could help for sure. I haven't had the chance to do it myself but I'm sure one day I'll get around to it

I picked up the regular Shredder, and the "battle ready" Turtles from the IDW run, and the Krang in the Walker. They have generally been improving their quality over the lines they make. Things are still a bit ugly here and there - the elbows and knee joints need major work; their choices for when to use harder vs softer plastic could use some work - and maybe even a bit more of a harder plastic for their softer parts as I find they flex a bit TOO much.
Then some parts I don't understand - like the straight cut for the bicep on Shredder, and his upper torso - it's solid plastic and barely moves on the swivel. A lot of that could be redesigned to look and function better.
If they keep improving like they have been, then they will really be making some great action figures. For now, I think they are okay - not the best, but surely not the worst.

Also - the whole IDW TMNT run has been really good - I read it all on Comixology Unlimited which has them all for "free"

haha - I keep having comments as I watch the video - the hip joint on my first Shredder snapped off instantly - so I had to get a 2nd and heat then use some silicone oil.

agree completely! they're definitely showing some potential if they are consistently making the necessary improvements. Hope they don't become complacent 😬

I’ve been leaning more into Indy companies of late, mostly because they are doing more original ideas.
That said, I tried LS with their original turtles release and they were ok. The shredder was bad abd after I got spike from cowboy beebop I kind of stepped away from them. With this one I was tempted to give another shot but decided against it.
I’ve been backing out of marvel legends because there’s really not a lot more they can do to appeal to me (although I’m sure they’ll be a couple the keep my attention), and I was only part way with Joe and MOTU and they’re losing me too. The nostalgic glider is crashing lol.
I’m not sure what happens next with action figures but I know big companies are going to need to right the ship soon.

for sure, agree with most of what you're saying. I think third party companies are making the most interesting figures rn and that's where majority of my support will be going with lines like Furay Planet/Fury Toys/Vtoys etc. still need budget options and I too hope that the larger companies can correct course. at the very least I hope Loyal subjects continues to improve so they can put a fire under the others
