- Mimeophon is definitely my favorite module in my rack. It's not a conventional delay, it's a 'stereo multi-zone color repeater'. So what's the difference? Mimeophon works with 8 zones, where each zone captures your performance in a different time domain, and all zones affect eachother. You can flange a sound or create complex modulated chorus effects, delays, echo's and ever evolving loops in a sliding window of 42 seconds. In this 'long repeat' you can layer sounds and loop patterns while keeping a relationship with a master clock.
You may have seen lots of videos about the Mimeophon already, but this one is about the Mime in its comfort zone, the Shared System and the Tape & Microsound Music Machine. But it will do wonders in your own case too.
Mimeophon is coded by Tom Erbe, who also did the Erbe-Verb and Echophon. If you'd need to compare Mimeophon to the older Echophon, I'd say the Mime is a fancy digital delay designer and the Echophon is a vintage tape echo with a feedback loop. So you could run the feedback loop through the Mime and back into the Echophon. That would be a fun experiment!

My absolute favorite module make noise has ever produced
same
yeah same it’s so good
Absolutely!!! Along QPAS, maths, optomix, erbe-verb, morphagene and wogglebug... MN are solid AF.
Your videos are outstanding!!! Thank you. Totally inspiring and informative.
This is your best video yet. The production quality is superb, and you convey your ideas so well!
Thanks for the compliment, I'll try to do better :)
I love this channel. Everything is so detailed.
Best video about Mimeophon so far and I've watched a lot :)
What a wonderful demo of a great module. 👍👏
Thanks for the compliment!
This really sold me on the mimeophon. Ive been looking for quiet a while after something that can get as crazy as Octatracks chorus and this seems to really do that!
Ok it's been 4 months since my first comment on this video. I have Morphagene and Mimeophon, and Qpas should be here in a few days. After seeing this video I am more blown away than the first viewing. I'm speechless by the shear power and creativity of you with these modules. Outstanding.
I really like your videos. Your tone is refreshing and sounds different to those videos I've been over saturated for a while.
Awesome unfolding of this module! 🙇♂️
You rock! 💥💫
Really happy you like it, it would be an extremely powerful module to complement your generative patches.
@@CinematicLaboratory Oh yeah! Have been going down that rabbit hole for awhile now :-)
Holy Crap!! What awesome vid. I’m putting this module on the list!
I’ve watched a few of these over the last few days (my Mimeophon arrives tomorrow!), and yours is a really refreshing approach to what is ostensibly a delay. Will be referring back to this in the weeks to come.
Thanks for sharing! You will not regret getting one!
Excellent
Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
You're very welcome! I learned a lot while making these videos :)
This is very nice!! thanks to share it.
You're very welcome!
Great video thanks!
The ending is ace. Zone 7 is unique. Countless times I just record loops into the Mime, multi layered, and just let it play.
Yes, me too, it makes all the difference between a simple mono sound and a full track.
Love these videos! You Are doing a brilliant job showcasing techniques and modules. Relaxing and exciting at the same time. If you want to go further I think adding an extra camera angle would be awesome. I was pretty surprised you didn’t include the Zone 0 wild distorted guitar sounds when modulating colour more extremely, but I guess most already have seen that in the Loopop video. Nice with some new use cases instead!
Thanks for your feedback, but hey, I am just an amateur trying to get the best quality with just a phone and a tripod. But I have a second phone and a second tripod. However, I have to work in the closet space (no studio yet), closet is in the living room (to hide it when people come to visit) and with two tripods i can't move myself anymore :). Now it's often pretty hard to keep my arms out of the way and to patch a CV input that's really hard to see from my point of view.
...and by the way, if you're looking for guitar sounds, use the telharmonic and a pura ruina :). it will make a trash metal hero jealous. O, man that's a cool idea for a next video. Heavy metal on a modular. czcams.com/video/Z9y6NZEGjvk/video.html
@@CinematicLaboratory I think your content is way better than amateur! Really looking forward to follow the channel :)!
good work
Thanks!
Hey man, awesome video. I just posted on reddit that I saved money for an ES-9 but that I could not find it available anywhere in europe. I also mentioned that if I did not find it, I'd go for a QPAS plus Mimeophon combo instead. Well, after watching this video, I got even more pushed towards the latter option!
Adding an ES-9 is a great choice if you want to use your PC with your modular and it seriously extends your potential. Mimeophon does the same for you if you want to stay far away from the PC :). Choices....
@@CinematicLaboratory I know! In my current setup, I only use my rack with the pc, but my interface only handle two non DC-coupled input and no other output than my speakers. I will save even more money and buy these 3 eventually. I just checked your soundcloud while working, you really have a wide range of great music. Congrats!
@@purfakt Thanks for the compliment! I use my modular to design my own sounds for more 'regular' music :).
Great video! Now I really want a Mimeophon.......
You will not regret it for even a millisecond. This one of these rare modules that immediately delivers.
Thank you for this very well done overview. Your style is refreshing...practical with short explanations. Very relevant info in a nice short format. I need to revisit your Strymon Magneto vid. Mimeophon or Magneto? Both?? I'm getting Instruo Arbhar and Lubadh, and Mutable Instruments Beads to start an effects rack in a day or two. The Doepfer A-199 Spring Reverb is definitely on the list. Not sure about the Strymon Starlab yet...
Amazing video again! Best quality in all of Eurorack! Your presentation without talking is brilliant! One question though: will I still need the Erbe-Verb if I got the Mimeophon or is the Mimeophon the de-facto „replacement“? Thank you!
At 1:14 I'm seeing Repeats sent full CW, but your screen text says full CCW, and it references self-oscillation when you "open up" Repeats. I'm trying to learn my shiny new Mimeophon over here ;-)
Your videos are so informative and a great inspiration source. I just hope one day you would consider voice over instead text narration... Your work is so uniqe! Thanks for sharing!
Nope, i find the text excellent as it doesn't distract from the beautiful sounds.

Hi there. I've been enjoying your videos. Can the Mimeophon function as a serviceable reverb as well?
The 'halo' smears the repeats into a blur, and you can dim the delay lines with 'color', so you can get a reverb out of it, but it will not offer the possibilities of a dedicated reverb module.
I love ALL your videos! They are instructional, inspirational and just plain great to listen to. Any issues with the Mimeophon noise floor with mix set to dry? Some users report clicks and pops from the Mimeophon as well. Have you encountered any of these? I am very close to buying a Mimeophon, but candid feedback from an expert user would be greatly appreciated.
I never had any problems with it, no noise, nothing. If you hear noise with mix all dry, you either have a bad powersupply or a bad Mime.
@@CinematicLaboratory Thanks so much for the quick response! That is great to hear; it seems like such an incredible creativity tool. Keep up your amazing work! I look forward to every new video...
I have a 4ms dld and like it a lot. I'm debating the mimeophon also. I just wonder if the two would be redundant, or they are different enough to both have a use.
I guess it depends on how important a delay is for your music or how important it is to transform a delay into something completely alien. Mimeophon is a musical instrument that also happens to do a pretty decent delay, but there's 'make noise' on the panel. It can make a lot.
@@CinematicLaboratory thx for the reply. Alien is right up my alley 👽👽👽
You are making the wait for my TAMMM unbearable!!
