Or another time where a college student (I think) choked to death and the dispatcher asked another woman on the scene about 5 times if he's breathing, after the woman (clearly in shock and panic) said "no he's not fucking breathing, how often do I have to tell you!!" The dispatcher hung up.

More likely that the news station found the police report (they're public record in most states), and decided to pursue the story.
It only has a half million views-- that's not that public. This could give the idea to someone else who is in this situation, so I am glad they reported on it.

They didn't call the pizza place, they used an app to order the pizza, and In the "request" section, they typed "help hostage, call 911."
Some areas do have the ability to text 911, it might take longer to get you help because they texting system isn’t as good as the calling system, just like calling from a landline is better than calling from a cellphone because calling from a landline can give a exact address as where calling from a cellphone can only give a approximate location

My sister got herself in a bad relationship and ended it . He came by and did a number on her keeping in the apartment for hours . It wasn't until she convinced him she had no cash( what he wanted) that he let her call " Me" and was able to dial 911. She told dispatch that he was there ( But said his full name) and that she hated to twist my arm but needed to borrow some money. That dispatch was all over it , he had typed he ex name in and it came up that a restraining order had been put in place a week before. He kept her talking and told her the money was going to be put in the mailbox which was a 5 minute walk from her apt.( The convo between them was beautiful) and within 10 minutes several fine police officers surrounded the complex and only had to wait a couple minutes for idiot to go outside to check the mailbox. Today my sister is good and this idiot? He served 3 years in prison and died of cancer 3 years ago. I made sure this dispatch got employee of the month along with a couple pounds of freshely made deer jerky.
That was so smart. Very smart thinking. I'm sure your children are very proud of you. And, thank goodness, the workers at Pizza hit acted fast when they saw that. 🙏

This is horrible no one should EVER have to deal with this I have a heart for people who have kids who are held hostage and kidnapped. I will be praying for every single kid ever so they never get kidnapped.❤❤❤

Everytime I see those videos, I get angry, a constant reminder as to how much I hate abusers and how happy I am when it ends well for the victim, as a once victim my self I know their pain. But he can never hurt another woman again. Hope he is resting in peace

This reminds me of another similar situation that I saw on the news about a month ago or so, but it was opposite.
The woman was being held hostage in her own home from the boyfriend, but she was told that she was only allowed to use the phone for pizza while her boyfriend was in the room. She calls 911 and pretends that she's ordering pizza. The dispatcher is like: "911 what's your emergency?" and the lady's like "Hi, I'd like to order a large pizza." and eventually the dispatcher catches on and asks her if she's in a situation where she can't be seen calling 911 and she answers "yes" as if she's still ordering the pizza. Police come, arrest the boyfriend, happy ending.
How can anyone do this to their family! She was so smart to use the app for help! Poor kids glad they all are safe!
