  • This is the NHTSA NCAP frontal crash test for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) Laredo 4x4
The fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee is a mid-size crossover SUV first introduced for the 2011 model year.
The steel unibody design is all new and has undergone testing for aerodynamic efficiency while improving ruggedness with more than 5,400 welds in the body alone. This results in a 146% increase in torsional rigidity compared to the previous design. This improves durability and reduces noise, vibration, and harshness.
The new WK2 also features four-wheel independent suspension for better on-road handling. The Grand Cherokee (with the 2011 Durango) WK2 platform uses a derivative based on Mercedes-Benz's W166 series. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Grand_Cherokee_(WK2))
NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) Frontal Impact:
The frontal crash test evaluates injury to the head, neck, chest, and legs of the driver and front seat passenger. Crash test dummies representing an average-sized adult male and a small-sized adult female are placed in the driver and front passenger seats, respectively, and are secured with seat belts. Vehicles are crashed into a fixed barrier at 35 mph (56.3km/h), which is equivalent to a head-on collision between two similar vehicles each moving at 35 mph. 1 star is the lowest rating; 5 stars is the highest. More stars equal safer cars.
    Overall Rating: 4-Star
    Overall Front Star Rating: 4-Star
    Front Driver Side: 5-Star
    Front Passenger Side: 5-Star
    Overall Side Star Rating: 5-Star
Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings (Front Seat): 5-Star
Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings (Rear Seat): 5-Star
    Side Barrier Rating: 5-Star
    Side Barrier (Driver): 5-Star
    Side Barrier (Rear Passenger): 5-Star
    Rollover Star Rating: 4-Star
The rollover rating measures the risk of rollover in a single-vehicle, loss-of-control scenario.

I just experienced an accident going the same speed as the test Jeep was on 19 July 2019. I smashed directly into the side of a car that was flying perpendicular across the median after being hit from another car. My 2015 Grand Cherokee crumpled exactly like this one did in this video, however none of my airbags deployed causing injury to me. I'm glad this video exists. It will surely help me with my lawsuit.

Looks like it took the impact way better than the older models. Great way to go FCA... !

These are one of the few crossovers with a soul. A lot of the trim levels are more about the experience of owning a Grand Cherokee than just practicality.

Looks like the mass amount of the energy was absorbed external of the cabinet. Good results.

Full frontal crash always looks good. Especially for new big Jeep energy is eliminated symmetrically and it must looks good but its look not bad for old Golf Mk1 too when 40% front crash was a tragedy for Golf 1 and good for Cherokee. Full frontal not show strong of structure than others models.

Stop Teoriom Spiskowym side crash tests were applied and it was always a win for new cars so still new cars are safer than old cars

Yes older cars didn’t crumble which is why everyone died in car accidents back then.
