Shows how creative genius Wolstenholme actually is. Muse wouldn't be the same without him or Dominic.
Merryblue Absolutely agree.
Hysteria and many other basslines were actually written by Matt
How bout Matt, he writes all the songs have the time.
And tbh this band wouldn't be the same without any of them.
Well, Matt wrotes almost everything, but he has two perfect musicians to play his masterpieces (And Something Human too)
That’s a broad statement, cause any band wouldn’t be the same without any of its members, look at what happened when blink got rid of scot raynor, then the drumming became crazy asf and they got songs like feeling this and after midnight, then with Tom leaving it’s basically a new band,
If you take anyone from anywhere it literally wouldn’t be the same
finally, the handler gets the love it deserves!
Omg Hello man xD
the handler is my favorite muse song, everything about it gives me chills its so fucking good
What I've always found so impressive about New Born (4:08) is that about 4 minutes of the song is just Chris repeatedly doing that bass line. I tried playing it with my band and found it impossible because my left hand cramped, even after lengthy practice.
me too. I've been working on it, but even so I can only get a minute or two in. it's so much more difficult than it seems
I love the chorus bassline for undisclosed desires.
Fun fact, a bassist who lived in the same flat often woke me up playing panic Station.
Haha that's not so bad, I might actually not get mad if it were Muse waking me up
Hyper music is my number one favorite Muse bass line.
Krondo 17 QOTSA has some nice basslines too 😏
A Taco QoTSA and Muse are my favorite bands
Krondo 17 Muse is one of my favorites, and I really like QOTSA too (...Like Clockwork is a masterpiece)
I think so.
Krondo 17 I really like it to b though the while song sounds a little RHCP...
I’ve never heard the reapers base part this clearly before and DAMN it’s FIRE.
as a musician who try to compose, the hysteria bass line is for me a kind of sacred thing, u know that kind of master piece that you don't know how the the f*ck it came to the mind of the one who made it. But there is another bass line frome muse that make me the same effect and which is not in your top, and that is Futurism.
Both of them are great, but this is just my opinion :)
I believe matt came up with the riff if I remember correctly
@Pooperdooper29 matt played the riff on guitar, but thought it would sound better on bass, so chris played it and the rest is history
I'm sorry but in my opinion nothing beats hysteria's bass line . It's the song that got me into muse long ago.
That bassline is on another level. It just is too good.
I think I’m a tiny bit fatigued of it being number one on every list and the only bassline non-muse fans recognize as being good from them - trying to give credit to some of the other great ones Chris has come up with!
Note chris didn’t write hysteria it was Matt.... :)
@@NightwalkReal like liquid state. Criminally underrated. The live version is impressive, he can sing while playing it. Ashamed has a great bassline too. As well as Jimmy Kane.
that's my favorite as well, but reapers is a close second imo
I never knew the bass for "Reapers" in the verse was so complex
It's not really that complex, it just demands alot of stretching lol. I remember losing lots of stamina before I could get to the chorus part
Remember guys, this is just my opinion:
- I didn’t put futurism because I think of hysteria as the final version of futurism
-same thing for fury and the handler
Let me know some of your favorites! I can always make a part 2 to get some of the bass lines you guys want to see :)
Nightwalk why does time is running out sound so glitchy? Roll down the fuzz a little
Part 2!!
Muscle Museum?
Great job! You have a lot of talent and good music taste, obviously ;)
A little question, by the way; how do you make that effect for Darkshine? It's sound so dark and deep!
NO
Who else spent the whole video waiting for Hysteria?
I think the great thing about Chris is how consistently he puts up amazing work. You can't just have one favorite Muse bass line.
PWOPER LIST
This is a great reminder of how good Muse really is.
Video should be titled:
15 Muse Songs You Forgot Had Some Of The Greatest Basslines Ever...(and Hysteria)
Wow, was not expecting Animals, but im quite happy with that, very underrated track.
also, maybe it was just me, but i felt like you shouldve played the bass louder in the video.
otherwise another great vid
Moonburn yea i thought so too
Make a part two with Thought Contagion, futurism, city of delusion , Fury, eternally missed, exo politics, plug in baby, Bliss, crying shame and the groove
Muscle Museum too!
The groove is so underrated 😍
joe rose a lot of people don’t even know it exists because it’s a b-side :( it’s sounds so good though!
*So HeRe It Is AgAiN*
I love playing Futurism and the Groove
I fell in love with #15 and #9.
I'm also very glad Animals is on the list. It's one of my favorites by Muse.
For sure one of my favorite bassists. Always amazing lines!
One of my favorites to play is Uprising. Not the most technical, but I just love the sound of it.
I agree, though it's mostly so amazing because the tone in that song is perfect, and I could not match it haha
Great video as usual! Animals for sure deserves number one. I know it seems stereotypical but Plug in babys chorus bassline is awesome.
I was really really close to putting that one on there too actually, definitely one of the best
Never heard bass boosted MUSE in the 10 years I've been listening, gotta say, it's EPIC!
i was really waiting for the handler, that bass on the chorus is amazing
Definitely one of their overlooked songs.
NAILED IT! Thank you for doing this, I was so glad to hear songs like Easily here. It's more interesting than what we usually see on "best muse" videos... and a part 2 would be nice (the groove, ashamed...)!
Absolutely! I have a ton of videos coming out first but I'll eventually get to part 2 :)
At last some really appreciates how great a bass player Chris is, he truly is one of the greats 👌👌
City of Delusion and Eternally Missed top3 !
this guy probably woke up, went straight tl his bass and started recording; cuz he still wearing those jammies
Liquid state and Sunburn... gottal love those.
God I love muse basslines
The Handler's pre chorus has an epic line, glad to see it so high
This is awesome!!! You’re super talented!!
Easily Mercy, Animals and Reapers don’t tend to make it on lists like these. Very glad you included them. Also for The Handler, I’ve always played that lick starting on the 10th fret, A string. Does Chris play it further up the neck like that live?
When I first learned the part I didn’t know what I was doing and learned it an octave down, so I just transposed it up on the d string, which I knew wasn’t right, it was just easier lol
Hysteria bass will always be iconic. 🖐🏻
I am so glad you put sunburn! I love that song not to mention new born too
Nice work! You killed it. Nice to see a "bend" in a bass line.!
Yes, Chris is one of the best bassists out there! Thanks.
You are very Talented ❣️All of them are amazing. My favorites are The handler And New Born🖤
i thought for sure resistance would be on here :(
its bassline is so groovy
It'll be in part 2, dont worry!
Nice dude, I love muse and those bass lines
Maybe best muse piano parts?
Haha I could talk about them but no way I could play them for quite a while (not a piano player)
Haha no problem my dude even just hearing you talk about them would be sick.
Huh, maybe I'll do that! I can play a clip and then talk about it.
Good idea
Space dementia is definitely the best
Hysteria ! Great job man
Sunburn is my favorite. This was a great video.
Man, this makes me want to play bass now!
Nice list. I’m a guitarist myself, but I never realised how complex the bass line during the verse section of Reapers is.
Whoa, I voted for this!!
Gonna keep watching and see of any of my favourite are here
HYPER MUSIC!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoOOOoOOOOooOoOOoOOoOoOoOo
OH MY GOD AND TIRO YES GREAT VIDEO 10/10
Hahaha that reaction
Mercy is such a good song. It’s my ‘MUSE’ song for the week. I can’t wait till I find my next one. MUSE is such a great band.
At this point I just watch these to listen to good music and marvel at the movement of your fingers, keep it up!
Haha thanks Thomas, glad you're still here :)
Never gonna leave, you've got me hooked, you're like a drug
Darkshines is my fav. This whole vid was awesome!
Animals is such a banger. I agree with its number one spot
Great job Nightwalk!
Those old Muse basslines ...! They are the best ..bah all Muse basslines are best! xd I can't find one that I do not like! Perhaps by the day , Animals or Liquid State are my favs, but..may change! =)
When you have to make a Part 1 Top 16 instead of a Top 10 because the riffs are so good.
Is it just me or has Chris gotten better with age?
Love your video ! My favorite one is #13 Hyper Music for the bass. But anyway as a Muse fan I love all of them ! Thanks again for this video !
Thank you for watching!
Easily is the first song I ever heard from Muse, and is still my top favorite on my list. That bass line is pretty simple, but....wow.
this is great!! :)
Nice bass playing, can’t go wrong with the ole jazz bass!
Haha all I need now is a name for her.
I LOVE DRONES TOO. LOVE IT.
Loved it!
Gotta love this band
That's a weird way of playing the handler! Nice video
tHANK YOU FOR NOT PUTTING HYSTERIA AS THE #1. Now I’m not dissing hysteria it’s Bassline is so amazing I love it it’s just I’m tired of seeing it as #1 all the time.
Agreed! I wanted to spice thing sup.
I was gonna say if Animals isn't on this list. You had me scared there!! XD #1 Muse song IMO!
Amazing!
I love it! Simply wish ur bass was louder than the song since this is a bass feature vid type thing q. q
I will never understand how Chris can look so fucking cool while doing this
Hysteria should be no.1 bass line 😍
Sweet Video I subscribed!
Thanks, glad to have you!
That's wuz Awesome dude.. fans of muse from Malaysia
Why you didn't play the bass line on Panic Station chorus?
That bass line is eargasmic
Hysteria is the best bass line ever written no other songs can both feature the bass line AND build off of it so well it’s insane
Teacher : So in order to play the handler you need to go down between your 12th and 15th frets
Me: Cries in low B
Great playing how were you able to achieve all the different sounds from song to song with the same bass??
They're all so awesome, how do you rank them?!
Pleasantly surprised by number 1! Also, I hate to be that guy, but the way you played the Reapers line was slightly off. When you played 9 on the D it should've been 8. Everything else sounded perfect though!
You right - my bad!
nice
The bass tone tho ❤
New Born... I approve!
trying to master hysteria made me CRY
YESSSS SLAYYY 😍 Chris is my favorite member of Muse and he's like literally the most talented person ever I love him so much! This was amazing, great job!
Laurs xoxo Personally I love Matt Bellamy 😍 Great piano, vocals, and guitar!! ❤️❤️❤️
I don't know about most talented but best bassist ever, most definitely.
i picked up the bass in 8th grade just to learn the bass for Hysteria. it was the first thing i learned on bass and the only song i knew on bass for years.
Love it
WOW YOU ARE SO GOOD👌
Nice
Pwoper bass lines 👌
Is that a geddy lee jazz bass? Nicely done by the way.
City of delusion and I belong to you are two off the top of my head that never get a lot of love for their bass lines
In panic station, the high up bit at the end of each 4 bars is a tone higher up than what your playing. :)
Will Graves yea he's playing fret 17, its supposed to be fret 19
Shen
yeah that’s what I was trying to say
Right hand: don't forget to always alternate young man !! ;)
What bass do u use?
Animals on 1 this list makes me so happy
Muse is a great bass driven band. Pete Townsend described John Entwistle as playing “lead bass” for The Who. It’s the exact same with Wolstenholme and Muse
Undisclosed Desires is my favorite 🥰
I love muse 💗💗💗🤩🤩🤩
Also, what pedal/effect(s) have you used on Darkshines to get those two different sounds?
I actually just played the part clean - the effect you're hearing there is from the original song.
I think it may be a wah effect, though I'd have to test around to really tell.
wow. what a shocker. I would've expected hysteria at #1, but then again, I didn't really think about the handler or animals...
nevertheless, this still a fantastic vid. keep up the good work, my dude!
I like to keep people on their toes ;)
Sunburn is sick
are those round wounds?
NOOO MUSCLE MUSEUM??? I'm going somewhere else to see this riff now...
Sick!
Because of how much you wanted it I just recorded top royal blood riffs (No B sides though) :(
Nightwalk haha no problem man, anything you put out is quality
supremacy
