    Seems like people want a tank, instead of a motorcycle, in the comments. No sure thing as high speed protection. Use your common sense people.

      @@TheTISEOMan Better than bare engine cases. And you'll be able to limp it home on two wheels instead of the back of a truck.

    I ride my GS off road. My falls typically take place at 5-10 mph
    (as they say, going slow is often more difficult than going fast). From that perspective, the test in the video is valid.

      Nope we need real crash test, correct me if I'm wrong, this is a push & loss of hand grip light test crash demo im assuming, must perfectly have ridden the bike fully loaded with proper saftey gears with more aggressive approach & much higher speed drop test will be more appropriate actually.

      Agreed….but got to go with higher expectations as the masses would want something that can handle at least a 60k/hr drop…..🤷‍♂️

    I think all the people wanting more protection can easily achieve this with an extra pair of wheels. I want crash bars for low speed spills - in the high speed ones, your bike is likely going to be a mess in any case.

    For the rocks and gravel you need extra protection plates on the cylinder head... There are many manufacturers who produce them...

    Ouch . . . . it hurts me to see that .... the spindle bobbin on the front took a bit of a hit but the bike balanced nicely on the cylinder head section .

    When bikes crash,for sure not at such speed, so let see more real test at higher speed and on different terrain and rough grounds.

      Sorry, I admit you do have a point to some extent, but 90% of "crashes" are bikes just tipping over while not driving... like while pushing it around inside a garage or while the driver is trying to get on or off the bike... or slipping with his foot standing at an intersection on a gravel-road. And those are the harmless but annoying situations that leave a scratch or even a tilted cylinder-head although the "crash" was not severe at all. The SW-Motech-bars can cope with all those little tip-over-situations and even a little more... that's what they are built for.
      Crashing at higher speeds does not happen too often... and if so, you probably have way bigger problems and damages than a scratched cylinder-head.
      If you decide for a boxer, you know its Achilles' heel, and in my opinion, the SW-Motech-crash-bar (and some others as well) minimize the risk around the cylinder-heads quite effectively.

    I like the crashbar, but why for hecks sake do you mount the skid plate directly to the engine block?

    I dropped my Tenere 700 at slow speed. The SW Motech crash bar protected the bike 👍 but got bent itself 🥺. How could I fix?

    What about off road on gravel and rocks?

      No crash bars can provide complete protection. It is always about having less damage than without crash bars. On rocks or uneven surfaces there might be damage of course but for certain less than without protection.

      I totally agree but as the BMW R1250GS is a designed for and regularly used on gravel and modestly technical terrain it would good to know what level of protection is provided in these environments. Unless of course that SW-MOTECH crash bars are not designed for off road use.

      @@lpbonney of course they are also designed for off road use. As you see in the video they can take hits easily and protect all important parts of the bike. There was not a single scratch on any other part than the crash bars after the test. The reason why we can´t promise 100% protection in any terrain is that there can always be a big rock the cylinder might straightly fall onto e.g. if you are unlucky. No crash bar, no matter which manufacturer, will guarantee complete protection. But it will protect your bike´s most important parts in most cases for certain. Does that answer your question?

      Don't get me wrong I of course do not expect 100% protection. I was, perhaps poorly, trying to suggest that an 'off road' test would be more helpful. As I am sure you agree almost all premium brand crash bars on the market would pass your drop tests on grass and tarmac. An off road test, given this would be a tougher but still a real world test, will help us prospective customers differentiate between the many offerings on the market. Not all crash bars are equal but most would pass the 'grass' test.

This was the first video of this kind and we´re happy to see that there´s more you want to see :) an off road test is realistic of course and we´ll include your feedback in the ideas for another crash test. Further we agree, the grass test was just a warm up ;)

    Habe eure Bügel an der Honda X-ADV und kann die positiven Ergebnisse bestätigen. Wenn Seitenkoffer angebracht sind, wird das Ergebnis noch besser. Ggf. könnt ihr das mal zeigen?! Danke und Gruss von Jürgen, 64 Jahre jung.

    Thats great but what about when your off road and fall on a load of rocks and the cylinder head get a dirty great crack or whole in it ??

      Hey @nateryan7041, the crash bars secure your bike in most crashes. If the bike crashes and falls on a load of rocks, we can't secure, that your bike won't get damaged. But we can assure you, without the crash bars, it would look even worse after such a crash.

      @@SW-MOTECH o yeah I can see that from the design but what are the options as I like many others like to go off road and a road orientated crash bar is just not Gona cut it ?? What would you suggest

    The left cylinder is a bit further towards the front of the bike, usually it is easily damaged by crashes, do you also test that side?

    Ausgezeichnete Präsentation! Ich bin bei meiner 14. GS (seit 1986) und jetzt der 1250 mit SW Teilen. Jedes Jahr quer durch Westafrika solo, Eure Teile sind besser als Wunderlich und Touratech!

      Selten solch einen Blödsinn gelesen. Wer nicht fahren kann braucht auch 14.GS. Der Rest ist nur Dummschwätzen und zeigt, dass sie keine Ahnung haben. Die Teile von SW-Motech sind gut, aber für lange Reisen über Kontinente brauchen und verwende echte Reisende arte Parts.

      Gérard Jouvancourt welch ein Münchhausen. Wir haben uns jetzt mal die Mühe gemacht und über diesen angeblich grossen und erfahrenen GS Fahrer recherchiert. Was er macht ist ganz einfach, er sitzt auf einem Boot und macht ein Foto und ist dann auf einmal ein Weltumsegler der bereits 40 Ozeane bereist hat, Interessiert sich für das Sahara Camp 2015 in Marokko, Welches von einem GS Club erstmalig schlecht organisiert wurde, Und promt hat in seinem Leben schon 14 GS besessen und bereist jedes Jahr Afrika, Muss ich der Realität hier noch weitere Details hinzufügen? Ein Mann soll seinen Traum leben, aber wer in seinem Alter solche Lügengeschichten verbreitet, das ist einfach nur peinlich und zu tiefst traurig.

      Lieber Salzsee, eine glatte 5 für schlechte Recherchearbeit! Mit 5% Wahrheit eine kolossale Geschichte ausgedacht, das sit ja wie in der rechten Szene...hihihi! Nun, wer bei BMW beschäftigt ist, bekommt jedes Jahr eine neue GS, da sind 14 Stück eher recht wenig. Meine erste übrigens wurde mir 1986 nach Afrika geliefert, wo ich Jahrzehnte lebte. Segeln, ja, jahrelang, fliegen und MTB auch, was fehlt sonst noch? Die Jagd, die Frauen, aber das ist ein Thema, das an diesen "Recherchen" glatt vorbeigeht! Nix für ungut! :-)))

    Ein Fall nach links ist interessanter. Wie sieht es mit dem Schutz des Kardans aus (ohne weitere Sicherungselemente)?

      Vielen Dank :) zum Schutz des Kardans ohne weitere Elemente können wir keine belastbare Aussage treffen. Am Kardan ist bei unserer R 1250 GS ein zusätzliches Sturzpad verbaut.

    So good on muddy grass and flat ashphalt. Dropping it on a rocky offroad track with rocks that nicely fit through the 'hole' of the frame and onto exposed cylinder head would clearly suck.

    Ich behandel meine GS Bauj.2-18.wie ein BMX Rad: Ich lehne sie an, lege sie ab und fahre so als wäre sie unzerstörbar. Irgendwie ist sie das auch;-) Trotzdem würde ich den Test gerne sehen mit einem Fahrer der sich mal vom Bock schmeißt. Alltagssituationen sind doch eher das einfache umkippen, mal flach und mal gegen einen Bordstein, irgendwo "hängen bleiben" (Begrenzungspoller), aus der Kurve rutschen nach Drift, etc.! Wenn man die Koffer auch noch drauf hat ist die GS wie ein Tiger Panzer, nur schneller;-)

    I’d like to think a crash bar would leave the bike undamaged after a 5mpg (8kph) fall. Nothing special about that.
