I attend the Vanlife Diaries Gathering at Hoebuck Beach campground in Neah Bay. This is Friday, the first day. The Makah tribal elders from the local Cultural Center were totally amazing and organized a few events and some locals even brought up several salmon and taught us how to cook them in the traditional manner.
Thanks to Emily and Corey from Where's My Office Now for organizing such an awesome gathering.

I just love that area and Hoebuck Beach. The Makah Tribe was so kind to us! Wonderful people. :-)
Thank you for taking me along Bex!! I bet it's just great to be around like-minded people who are so welcoming. Great company and good food, doesn't get much better than that!! Keep on going and safe travels. 💖💞💖💞💖
It was really great being around such folks. Really sweet and welcoming people. :-)

You are awesome - what can I say. Your videos are always just right - thanks
Thank you very much! :-)
My heavens that looks like so much fun! What a blessed life you live!
Thank you! I am very lucky! :-)
Wonderful! Surprisingly the "monotonous" music was soothing and a good choice. That looks like a spiritually rich event!
Thank you!. It was a very fulfilling weekend. :-)
Thanks for taking us along to the Van gathering. Love the energy.

Thank you for another great video. This is the best representation of the atmosphere of the gathering I have seen. It is almost like being there. I am looking forward to part two.

Fabulous potluck. Beautiful location, as always. Thank you, Bex!
Thank you! :-)
Love the music on your videos.
Thank you! :-)
I never want these videos to end Bex, lol. Love them and keep them coming :)
Thank you so much, Karen! :-)
Wow. Brings back alot of memories. Last time I was there was in 1995. Came down from Victoria BC for the canoe races. Usually held at the end of august on the reserve.
Another great video, what a cool gathering! I love being with my camping family.
Yes, it was a wonderful gathering. :-)
Oh man! That gumbo looked so good! I hope you ate lots and lots of it.I always think I will not pass this way again eat up! 😀
It was delicious. I did eat way too much! :-)
Fun get-together!!! As always Bex, you managed to catch the essence of every endeavor. It seemed like a great bunch of people all sharing a common interest as well as some common experiences. It's kinda funny how "becoming minimal" does just the opposite with their generosity and hearts.
Bob
Thank you, Bob! I agree, the less someone has, the more they seem to share. :-)
wonderful video, much enjoyed... Thumbs up
Thank you! :-)
Yay! Was hoping you'd post soon. Digging the groovy music. Such a cool meet up. Loved all the different vans. Neat to watch them cooking up that big pot of gumbo. Did I just see Adventure Van Man? Love his channel as well. You guys rock!
Thanks for sharing Bex. Love your videos.
Peace! 🌈🌈
Yes, Brian was in there. I love his channel too. :-)

It was a lot of fun! :-)
How awesome was this gathering and your video chronicling of it. Thanks so much for bringing us along!
Thank you very much!
Lot of good food, I've sailed by Neah Bay 20 times but never stopped cause we were on a schedule headed for the San Juans back in the day I was a sailor. Two nights and three days from Portland a hundred miles off coast.
How utterly perfect from the location to the food to the community. Looked like some really good energy there. Right down to the jeweled colors of the fire. You live an awesome life, Bex. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you very much! That area really is wonderful and the Makah Tribe really treated us wonderfully. I had a magical time. :-)
Lori Smith i
Lori Smith Lori, you always say what I want to say. Ditto!

Thank you! It was a wonderful time. :-)
Fantastic. ...looks like a wonderful and fun time. Thanks for sharing you experience. 😀💕
Thank you, Ausia! It was an amazing weekend! ;-)
Just love your channel, Bex! Thanks for bringing us along on your trek across the country. The more I think about it, the more I am inspired to pare down to a Casita. I started out thinking I could only downsize from my home to a condo to an apartment to a Class C. I'm in an apartment now for 5 years and am between 1-2 years from retirement. I keep fighting with myself about getting rid of "stuff" that clutters my life and clouds my mind. Step-by-step as time passes, and as I watch your vids and those of others like you, I begin to believe that indeed, I can do this.
Thank you very much! If you can get to see a Casita in person, I think that would help you know the size. I also know who difficult it is to par down your life to just the most essential things. I had way too much stuff and had a terrible time trying to figure out what to do with everything. I ended up giving or throwing a bunch of stuff away as I held on to it too long and just could find a place for it. But I'm sure you can do this and find a simpler life. :-)
Juanita Brown OK that's right it's great.
Looks like fun...wish I was there! Thanks for sharing !
Oh, it was a wonderful time. Thanks so much for watching. :-)
Well done Bex as always... ♥♥♥
Thank you very much!
What a great gathering, glad you were enjoying it, thanks for sharing 😀
Thank you, Robin! :-)
Looked like good times 3:24 and 5:52 adventure van man (actually I was watching his videos and saw bex cat herder helping him get in the designated area and switched back here)
Like so much fun great video!!!
:-)
!!!!! NICE !!!!!
Thanks!
Bex... I'm so glad I found you through Carolyn! I've watched the others for awhile and felt I want to do this when I can in a few years. Watching this clip made me want it even more. I have a few more years of teaching and I'm also having to stick close to home so I can check on my 85 year old father daily as well as drive him places, doctor's visits, etc. I lost my husband 4 years ago... my youngest just graduated hs... and I feel I am wrapping up my old life and have been wondering what is left for a 50something to do. I think being a nomad is calling to me! Again... thanks for the video and keep them coming!
Oh, I truly hope you get to live your dream. I am absolutely loving this life and feel so lucky and blessed. There are so many beautiful places and people in this country. And they are waiting to meet you too.
Great video!! Looked like a blast!
It was a wonderful weekend. :-)
Great video!!! Kept thinking the people/area/etc. looked familiar; ... then I saw Brian and realized his videos run more currently than yours so I had seen the gathering from his perspective a little while ago.
Ha ha! Yes, Brian is much faster at editing videos than me. But I'm trying to get better. :-)
Love you Bex!
Thanks so much! :-)
Such fun! Lucky you!!
Thanks! I do feel lucky! :-)
So much fun!
Yes, it was tremendous fun! :-)
Looks like a real Blast! The pot luck dinner looked so wonderful and yummy. You live such a great life.. Plain , simple, minimalist, yet very full and rewarding,. Was that chocolate that was being mix into the Gumbo pot? Looking forward to your next adventure .. So keep on rolling, living the good life and stay safe...
Thank you! The brown stuff is a roux (pronounced 'roo'). It's just flour and butter cooked in a pan until it's the color you want. It's a staple in gravy. :-)
That hit the spot !
:-)
I love your videos. Feel like Im there with You
Great video thanks for sharing😊
Thank you! :-)
I agree with your conclusions.
:-)
That looked like so much fun! I haven't made Gumbo in a couple years ... need to make some soon.
Yes, I definitely think you need to make some gumbo now. ;-)
Good stuff, great style in your content.
Thank you very much! :-)
Really enjoying your videos. You must have an awesome camera.
Thank you very much! I just have a simple Canon S-120. But it does the job. ;-)
I have been quite impressed with the quality of your videos, especially for a small camera like that. Guess it goes to show you don't need tremendous equipment to capture your experience. Your talent for editing and production are the superior elements of the videos you make!
I enjoy your videos! I'm going have to move from my upper middle class neighborhood. (A protective bouble) I thought that I could move to an RV, but I already have friends making fun of me. Really hard when your land assessment doubles, but one can't sell it for that or afford taxes. I also am worried about crime and staying healthy.
Another fun video! Thanks Bex. btw, where's Mr. Peaty??
Those people looked so happy to see each other. Some of them carry around all that big bulky cooking equipment?
Some of these people I only see once a year. So perhaps it was true for others too. The large cooking pot and burner were borrowed from someone who had a home in Washington.
Boy, I would love to have that gumbo recipe!!!
That was some wonderful stuff! :-)
It certainly looked great with all of the fresh ingredients. The two most important things, though, are the roux - which it appears they made ahead of time (a very well made, dark roux) and okra, which I did not see going into the pot. Since 'gumbo' means 'okra', it is an essential ingredient... :) Either way, always some fine eatin'!
Crazy cool colors in the fire at the end. Did someone throw some fireplace colorant (like Rainbow Flame) in the fire?
Yes, a gal had something she threw in. I couldn't see what, but it was cool. :-)
Bex: If you google "fireplace color powder" you'll find it for sale, and diy info on chemicals and common substances you can use to get colored flames.
Nice video...how did the fire turn colors? :-)
Ive tried watching videos from Caravan Carolyn, eric, mike, ausia, carolyn(bobs friend), They were so fake and annoying. Your the only one that I have subscribed to after following your videos. I really enjoy them and have watched all of your past posts. Thanks for sharing your adventures. I am looking forward to traveling and now have a better idea of some places I would like to visit. Do you ever travel the Northeast?
Thank you so much! I cannot recommend the western coast enough. From California to Washington, it never ceases to amaze me. I have not gone very far east. But I very much want to get out there. I have a huge list of places I would love to see. Many are in the east. :-)
LizzyBee AnAddedTouch I could not agree more. Bex can convey the character of a place better than any other nomad. She has the ability to step out of the way and share what she sees with us. Her videos are the closest thing to being there and there is almost always a history lesson included.
Wow that looked like A GOOD TIME .. is it annual?
Sadly, no. It was a one-time gathering. I'm hoping someone else will pick up the torch on that gathering so we can do it again.
Hi Bex , for some reason I haven't been getting any of the notifications for any of your videos and I was I don't know why it stopped.. can you possibly tell me why because I have it set up to receive in I'm clueless.
I haven't been posting any videos recently. I may post again, but currently a little busy with another project. ;-)
???What did you contribute to the meal?
Ha ha! Isn't my company enough! ;-)
Bex Cat-herder absolutely not if you were raised right. My little southern grandmother taught me never to go empty hand to event like that OR when someone brings you a dish that when you return the dish it has something in it. Like fresh fruit or candy. Never return an empty dish. I usually take fresh fruit Bex or fresh vegetables. Everyone likes fruit 🍉 even diabetics and it's easy. Think how much preparation, effort and cost went into that meal and people just show and expect to eat for free? Really bad manners but I know you wouldn't do that. Your very thoughtful.
