Extra not buy it, lol, I was hoping this would be a better linux device. I'm tired of the RK3566 devices. I want a better (non android) chip.
@Moes_Prep_and_Tech I'm going to try not taking too long before the review to correct the aim on this device. It has potential.
Joey just did a first look at this device and its BRUTAL, especially the battery life(lost 6 percent life within 20 mins of filming it lol) and refresh rate (53hrtz)that makes every game you throw at it off (unless you use a Pal Rom), they shouldn't have released this.
@Moes_Prep_and_Tech Not going to lie, it reassures me to read this. I'm gonna watch Joey's video but from what you are saying, I'm not crazy. Not that I want to make this about me but his credibility with retro devices is far beyond mine so yay for that! Sigh for GameForce though.
I was so hyped for this. Bought this a bit after backing the odin 2 expecting I'd end up playing it before the odin 2 would ever hit my hands. Idk how this all changed but now i don't regret canceling my preorder of this and having my odin 2 in ny hands. The dev definitely needed more time with this one.

It's too bad, because the RK3588 is a pretty powerful chip. On paper, it's got the potential to perform a little better than the original Odin, but with Linux support. I think Taki got some low end PC games running on an SBC with a 3588 a while ago.
Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Well, do keep in mind that is a Rk3588s and not Rk3588, I couldn't tell you the difference off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure S is stripped down, how much? I wouldn't have a single clue.
But, I have not "quit" on this device just yet, we'll see what we can do.
@@GameTechTalk the s version supports fewer video out channels, less camera in bandwidth, and fewer USB connections. The CPU, GPU, and NPU bits are basically the same. For the purposes of a gaming handheld, they're essentially identical. The s just costs less.
You're my MVP today! Thanks for saving me time doing the research. Plus, you just juiced up my hope for this handheld. The one thing I'll really have to dig deeper now is the panel. I'm hoping the Retroarch situation was a fluke and that it does run at 60fps, that'd be terrible otherwise.@@michaelmoceri1118

Yeah I watched it all, great video as always. A part of me was hoping it was just me that got a lemon but it seems consistent now... I feel for the people that invested in it and hoped for a nice retro handheld to game on.

@Moes_Prep_and_Tech From watching his video, I'd say his unit seems worst than mine? We may have different production runs. My speakers don't have phasing issues, nor do my triggers feel different from one another. I did have a MicroSD act up, I took another one with a different filesystem and was fine. I cut a lot from the video because it was meant to be a short one but I have footage of PPSSPP and it was terrible. Like, we're talking 5-10fps kind of bad on a game that ran near full speed on a Retroid Pocket 2s.
Consistent between mine and his are: software behaving badly, 52-53hz panel, lowest brightness way too bright, sound cracking due to vsync but as per my video, I was able to fix that by removing vsync, L1 and R1 are terrible 🤣. No play store and I'd say overall that the launcher is bad, and indeed Android settings are very slim compared to what one should expect.
I hope they'll address the panel in a firmware upgrade cause that's a deal breaker, even if using PAL roms. Oh and much like him, which I filmed but ended up taking off due to video length, the sticks deadzones were terrible, in the video I even said: "oh thats not hall sensor", it was so bad I thought they weren't (I filmed without looking at specs as it is the purpose of the series). No drift so far for me.

Joey has more control issues, and a dpad that triggers by itself (!) which appears as an obvious hardware defect, but he says is software and others had adjusted for.
I haven't experienced such issues (yet?).
Plus he has heat and battery issues that I haven't.
To me, the software issues is masking any control defects, as we can't tell if deadzones are software related, but regardless all issues combined should be enough for him to return/replace, instead of staying with issues.
It seemed extremely undercooked.
The fact it doesn’t have a log in screen is also activating my spidery sense
The chip should be able to run JELOS so hopefully someone gets it working

I have not, I wasn't even aware someone made a custom firmware for this. Truth be told, I am revisiting my schedule to allocate more time for retro consoles, when the time is right, I might try to install that, thanks for letting me know!

Fun Video! It might be able to be better optimized, but I'm just sad it doesn't stand out aesthetically like the GameForce Chi
The GameForce Chi was the first Zu Reviews I ever saw and automatically, I was a fan of the guy ahahahah. If you never saw that review, I highly recommend it, for entertainment purposes of all things! (It's on Retro Handhelds channel)
These rock chips can also use ArkOS or JelOS which can significantly improve the handheld performance and experience. Right ?
To be perfectly honest, I have not looked into what Rk3588s is supported by outside of whatever the manufacturer ships with but if not for a different OSes, it'll at least need Play Store to be sideloaded. I would also look into a different launcher as the one in there is just unpleasant to navigate overall.
@@GameTechTalk I am saying this because I have RG353V which I believe is powered by 3566 and has both android and LINUX. I have never had to use android because performance in Linux is so much better.

ArkOS isn't coming to it last I checked. JelOS is starting work on it though, that won't fix the hardware issues though
Hoping for a third party to fix the software that the developer should have fixed, is a sad place to be.
If he is smart he would be looking into doing this or his model may die in sales.
I was wondering if this can dual boot into Linux, batocera maybe???. I want a powerful linux device, I'm starting to get tired of the Android ones

Time will tell, I personally don't think this would happen but Nintendo are very litigious.
the devices are getting so lazy... only device that made sense was Miyoo Mini/P, Android devices are basically just TV boxes reconfigured and its sad.
I don't mind Android but I get what you're saying though. It's starting to become similar to the sentiment of buying a new phone. You know? Now, a new iPhone or a new Android holds nothing refreshing, it's just a slightly better version versus the one you had previously. Tks for commenting btw, much appreciated! :)

I received mine earlier this week - I really like it. Especially snagging it at the pre-order price. Just needs an Android update (screen refresh rate is 52hz, currently - dead zones off), but it has all the makings of a good performer. I'm rocking some PS2 at 2x and PSP at the full, native resolution (after I turned off video sync, of course) - it's a “diamond in the rough” 🙂 Although I was a bit jealous that Anbernic and Retroid came out with their beefier units while I was waiting…
Ahh dang... I was hoping that 52hz was a mishappening of sorts, but I guess you confirm it's not just me. But for everything else, I think you phrased it perfectly, a diamond in the rough, I'll just have to do some polishing before my final review. Thanks!@@VinceHase
