When I came out of the theater after seeing this, I was literally trembling.....not from fear, but from just disgust and horror and empathy for Mills and also for the people who go thru this stuff on the job and what they lose of themselves (I've known many cops and criminal justice professionals thru my sis, who was a US probation officer)....all of it just hit me hard. So well done, by all involved.

Lol like, but im not certain in that moment he planned to target Mills already...
I think the primary reason was because Mills was not then on his list to fulfill part of his mission, and he was a killer with a specific mission not wanton or reckless.
Looks like he would have shot him to get away, but he didnt need to do so in that moment.
I suspect though this could be the moment he decides to plan to include him/her. We hear from him next suggesting that them finding him was not predicted yet and accelerated his schedule and he was sorry to hurt "one of you" but we know he knows the name from Mills shouting it on the stairs.
So he could have been plotting it from then, or he could have decided to go see her after Lust. ? .

    • @Antagonopolis
      @Antagonopolis Před rokem +4

He let him live cos' Mills won the "Dumb Fuck" contest. At the last minute too.
Cos' obv John Doe planned this whole thing for a long time [Sloth alone took more than a whole year]
+ he also never heard of Mills [and his wife] or about him coming to work in the city when he started to plan all this
+ Se7en victims should have been found in se7en days
      =
John Doe had another person for Wrath when he was planning this, but Mills turned out to be SO GOOD
as a mindless dumb fuck, that such a calculating methodical mind as Doe
immidiately decided to risk his planned preparation and include him in the set

It's true that, in cinemas, most of the films are reboots, sequels, etc. in an effort to bring in audiences. Studio heads are running scared with fewer people actually going to the movies anymore, so (like Vegas gamblers) they're trying to bet on so-called "sure things." That's why most of the truly daring or interesting/unpredictable stuff is often found on streaming platforms these days.

In keeping with the spirit, you don't see Paltrow's head in the box. Everyone I know who has seen this swears up and down how grisly her head was in the box. But this is the old 'less is more' axiom, where we as the audience will have far more graphic images based on suggestion, rather than what you see. See also Pulp Fiction, violence is off screen and in the audience's minds.

When I first saw the movie I was thinking he may have planted a bomb or something. When the delivery van came into view, I thought that could be a bomb.
Then I thought that there is no way John Doe would kill that way.
I figured it was her head about the same time as Kabir.
This movie is a masterpiece, and one you really have to use your brain. Another movie like this (takes a lot of thinking) is Memento. I think you would really like it is you haven't seen it before. I have not seen a movie like it before or since.
Sadly, they don't make movies like this anymore. Although this movie had some graphic and disturbing imagery, and a few jump scares, it was done in a perfect way. There has been some really good movies made over the last 2 decades or so, but they are few and farther between. All the newer movies rely on shock, gore, explosions, CGI, overacting, etc...
A great example of a movie that doesn't need CGI, constant jump scares, and shock is THE THING (1982). If you liked Predator, you will love The Thing. The score is brilliantly done by Ennio Morricone, John Carpenter's great direction, all the actors do a great job, and cinematography was brilliant as well. That movie is 40 years old and is even better when I watch it today. Almost all practical effects and had there been CGI, would have ruined the movie IMHO.
Anyways, this was a great movie and love watching classics like this.
P.S. Other classics you may not have seen are:
    Amityville Horror
    Exorcist III
    The Shining
    Psycho
    Halloween
    Blair Witch
Some newer horror I really liked was:
    Paranormal Activity
    REC
    REC 2
    Creep
The Conjuring 2 (didn't think I would like it, but it was good)
    The Stangers

I think you’re forgetting when this film came out. Mobile phones weren’t even available to many people except doctors and drug dealers and they were the size of bricks. You have to look at this from a 90s perspective.

Glad that you reacted to this. One of my favorite movies. I think that Kevin Spacey didn't do any press for this and was absent from the opening credits to preserve the reveal. I think this is one of only two movies that I really like Pitt in along with 12 Monkeys. Morgan Freeman is pretty much always good.

This expression alludes to the scene in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (4:1) where the moneylender Shylock demands the pound of flesh promised him in payment for a loan, and Portia responds that he may have it but without an ounce of blood (since blood was not promised). Peace out.

I lived in a great apartment on a gorgeous lake. Fuckers of course didn't tell my boyfriend and I that the major RAILROAD TRACK ran over the side of the lake we couldn't see and had no access to, except by boat. We found out when I was brushing my teeth at 3 am and the whole apartment started shaking and it sounded like the inside of a fire station! Still lived there for like 3 years. 😂

You should react to "Snatch" if you haven't already. Good movie. Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Vinnie Jones. And then maybe Green Street Hooligans

One of my favorite movies is Fallen with Denzel Washington and a host of good actors like Donald Sutherland as well as John Goodman and many others that you'll recognize. It will freak you out as you watch it
It's one of a dozen blue ray I bought so I can pop it in when I want a good chilling movie with great twists and turns. I notice something new I didn't catch before almost every time I watch it.

Almost a perfect script, wonderful performances, stellar score and fantastic cinematography - Fincher really nailed it with this film.
Pitt is holding his arm awkwardly during the chase scene because during filming he slipped on the car hoods and fucked up his arm.
ps. "it leads me to believe that it's gonna be a really fun movie" :DD

Brad Pitt actually broke his hand when he filmed the ally scene, and he just went through with the scene. Oh he and Gweyneth Paltrow were engaged when they made this film. Oh and Kevin Spacey was nominated for two films that year this one and The Usual Suspects which he did win the oscar for Cheers.
