Most months I do a poem of the month for my website newsletter. I put out a little audio track that you can buy and that helps pay for the costs of the website. This month is a piece about telling someone you like them and how scary that can be.
I grew up in the era where Clark Kent still couldn't tell Lois Lane how he felt about her. I liked that era. I liked that I could find an equality in our inability to tell those we love how deeply we feel for them... it made me feel that I was somehow on par with Superman. I know that the secret identity was likely maintained to protect those he cared about, but I liked the idea that Clark Kent might be scared of rejection... that despite his seeming invulnerability he knew, deep down, that his heart was capable of breaking... it's what humanize do him for me. I wrote this piece from Clark's perspective as it has long mirrored how I've felt about someone in my own life. I have no delusions about being anyone's Superman, but I often worry that people who see me on stage might think that I possess a kind of confidence that makes these kinds of admissions somehow easy. They aren't... it's always terrifying to put your heart out there. I don't feel the anxiety of it any less than any other person who risks the same. There's never any guarantee that your heart will be accepted... let alone returned in working order, but I'll risk the hurt for the right person and I'm hoping I've found her.
The other thing to note about this particular piece is that it might not stand alone. I'd like to do a series of these using DC characters across different themes and put it out as a collection. Copyright will of course make that difficult unless I'm able to actually work with DC. Here's hoping that this might rattle that cage a little. I did the music for this on GarageBand and my buddy Andre over at typevideos put this little vid together for this month's poem. I'm hoping to do more video work in the future and will be starting up a Patreon page where you can support this kind of work if you're so inclined. Of course you do, we all have thoughts we keep to ourselves. Deep desires, hidden pain, lost love, hope for things to come, memories that make us smile bring tears to our eyes or both. Writing is just expressing those feelings you'd normally keep locked away, just take a pen and paper and write what you feel. It may take awhile and you may rewrite the same thing more times than you care to count but you can do it.
all thoughts are worth writing, sometimes they start out as nothing than as you take those first few words away and add more or replace a few you can always make your words worth sharing, that's if you want to share your words :) just try and mabie you'll find something within yourself that you never saw before.
+Miranda L No one has thoughts worth writing. You have to make trivial thoughts worth reading. Notice that the poem you listened to is just a guy who likes a girl; it's the most used subject matter ever. However, it was definitely worth listening to.

I used to like a boy (not quite a man) who I thought was perfect for me, but when the secret got out, I learned that his mask is different than his soul. I lost a friend last night I never thought I could lose. I was sick of crossing oceans for him when he would never jump a puddle for me. I guess I still like him, but that's just because I am still a kid and regardless of my feelings, he is one of the most terrible people I have ever met.

Beauty is not something one should think of another better than them. If one has more beauty than another but lacks a personality to be worth something great then even their beauty is not worth anything. If someone were to not have that much beauty but have the personality as if they had anything they desired then they are the one whom is truly beautiful

Whenever I need a good cry, or a confidence boost I listen to your poems. Today is one of those days , I started off with stop signs because it will always be my favorite and about popping out your left eye and showing it to your right.... Your abilty to portray spoken word as moving image in my mind goes ,without doubt, to be one of the best piers ive ever heard ive taken into habit to listen to you two times a day, one, being the first thing i hear when i wake and two being the last thing i hear before lay down to sleep. I cannot keep count of how many times i have cried while hearing one of your poems. Please never stop doing what you do and hopefully one day i will get to hear you in person and not through earbuds.

The first time I thought it was really sweet, assuming it was for a personal loved one named Lois (who knows, it could still be true), and figured out the meaning at the very end.
