- Today I went to Forced Performance / Xonarotor turbochargers headquarters to meet with Robert Young and pick up this saucy unit. He explains why we are using this particular turbo and what will be changed as things progress. He also has his own boosted Tahoe project that we go over too. Who wants to see them line up??

We definitely need more BoostHoe.. And more of the turbo guy. He's rad.
He looks like he could be Tommy Chong’s brother! But instead of being admit over weed he is admit over turbos and science! Love this dude just as much if not more than I love Cheech and Chong! If I knew this man I would spend DAYS, MONTHS and hopefully YEARS asking questions just in hopes to know a fraction of what he knows! Very inspiring man and your very grateful to know him or anyone remotely smart as him! Wish i had the opportunity to spend some learning time with him
I like the sloppy start!!! It’s a good “average man’s” segway into performance. Not everyone has 6-10k to dump in a semi daily driver... uncle rob is gonna be a fun build!!
Hey everyone!
Im Roberts son, Joe, and were both super excited by the response this video got with how much people like listening to him talk about turbos. He and i have both been throwing around the idea of doing a "Robert talks" youtube channel where he just talks about turbos(and hell, even superchargers boost is boost) in a kindof Engineering Explained style videos. Im curious what other people think of that idea? weve only really thrown the idea around a little bit between a few of us at the shop.
Do it
I will subscribe the day that channel goes live
Super rad guy knows his shit and picked the right man to test on it a bit lol good people better friends nothing says testing than 7000 pounds of heavy chevy
Do you have a link to a website so we can see what you have ?
He’s a natural... so do it!!
I could listen to Mr. Young talk for hours about turbocharger, impellers, aspect ratio, etc
Great video one again
I kinda found myself locked in when he started explaining everything. Best info I've heard from any manufacturer yet.
Next up is a detailed explanation of journal bearings vs ball bearings. I learned a ton from that and I think you will too
@@Stapleton42 Can't wait.
@@Stapleton42 Wonderful
@@Stapleton42 i can't wait either.
So when you going to Michigan lol 😆.
It’s naturally gapped 200k miles 😂😂 yes I love it
That was great ,"you gonna gap the rings or just send it?"
“WE ARE NOT GUNNA TOUCH ANYTHING”
This guy is a turbo Savant. Rain Man style
He’s a genius lol
Def want to see more of the BoostHoe! Make it happen bro 🙏
I will
Like others have said, I could listen to this guy talk forever. So much knowledge, and trying to save people money if they want something they don't actually need.
Lots of knowledge dropped here, thanks Mitchell.
Seem's like a cool dude 😎. Good logic and well spoken! Thats the kind of guys you want on your team 👍
Agreed 🤟🏻
Looks like Uncle Rob is going to get a big kick in the ass and hit the streets and track! Fantastic that you have a Turbo Guru on your team! It’s great he is having you do some R&D for his company! You BOTH win.
Yep it’s a pretty awesome partnership. It’s gonna be a blast
Dude, I love this guy’s outlook on things. Post his links below yours in future videos Mitch. (If ya don’t mind)
I think both of you gents are “old souls”, and that’s f’in rad man.
Great to see and hear what FP has been up to. Bought DSM turbos from them going back 15 years or more.
Awesome. build. Thank you for putting the playlist in the right effing order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep on rockin'
Again! Your content just gets better and better! The inner car geek in me is absolutely loving this!
Thanks man 🤟🏻
This guy is literally the turbo wizard!!! you can't put a price tag on the knowledge this guy is carrying around and sharing with the world.
Boosthoe would be a great feature. Awesome seeing innovation happening for these GMT-800 trucks
I’m like 30 minutes away from that factory in Michigan 👍🏼👍🏼
Now that's how you put some real knowledge out there. Thanks for the video and RIP 4L60
Rob from Forced Performance - was also great giving tons of tech info on Sloppy Mechanics. Definitely looking at his new budget turbos. Don't know him but seems great.
Robert was on clapt out podcast, learned so much about turbos from listening to him. Rye put one on his mustang and dyno’d it, they put in the work! Stoked on this series!
Instantly became a huge fan of Robert!
These turbo videos is inspiring me to turbo my bone stock 06 Toyota Camry, lol 😆
Didn't realize he was the founder and owner! Explains why he has tons of good info and insight. I feel like he needs to hang out with Brent from PFI Speed.
Thanks for the great video Mitchell. Robert Young has a wealth of knowledge of turbochargers.
Forced Performance has been around for a while, I remember them from my DSM days. When they went to Zona rotors it was a game changer for sure. I was wondering when they were gonna get into LS stuff. These are top of the line turbos!
Nice chap (Robert), certainly knows his stuff. That is one of the definitions of engineering, building to a price point. I like where this is going. 👍 I was gonna ask, what manifolds (headers) do you plan to use. Off the shelf or built?
Truck manifolds. I may get a log
@@Stapleton42 gross, fab up a nice set
I support truck mani's over a log
By truck manifold, do you mean cast?
If you want the engine to last at big power numbers I'd gap the rings, I know it's a pain in the ass but it'll help it last alot longer.
he has said he plans to build a motor and is going to window this one so he's not gapping rings.
We need more of this we learned alot and it's fun to watch
I remmeber when FP was damn near all DSMs, you either had an FP Green or a FP Red turbo, I love how they have evolved, 2001 vibes right here.
Robert is on a mission!
Wow. information overload. I'll have to rewatch this. Thanks
Same 😂 Robert is a wizard
@@Stapleton42 Yes he is. Thanks again.
This was very insightful Robert did a great job explaining the turbo you chose, looking forward to seeing this build progress.
Robert seems like a cool dude and is very knowledgeable.
He’s awesome
Now I finally realize who your friend reminds me of. A very good comedian named mark maron. Look up a photo of him. Your friend looks like his twin brother.
Boosthoe to the front, The Turbo guy is awesome, should visit him more often!
I definitely will
More BoostHoe Dragging please! Great content!! Thanks
This is the information I need to hear, top shelf knowledge, thanks, more please 💯
More to come!
I would definitely like to see the internals being cast or ground or made...!
School is awesome because knowledge is power. This was cool AH. Dude just puked out 13 minutes of turbo knowledge. Yeah, for sure bring more of this man.
I have another 45 minutes of footage from this 😂 it’s coming
Can't wait to see the 5.3 liter go bang !!!
If you go to Owosso to check out the Tial facility, don't expect to get much else out of the trip (unless youre traveling elsewhere throughout MI). Not much going on in Owosso lol
True that!
You ain't lying there lived in or around owosso my whole life
So much turbo I knowledge. That looks like an awesome place to visit just to listen and learn.
Nice Halloween treat .now time to get a goin on uncle Rob.cool tour nice to hear they make as much possible in the USA
Thanks man
Turbo guy is badass... definitely hold him to Tial tour... good video...
Definitely gonna happen 💪🏻
Awesome turbo information here. More videos with Robert and FP would be splendid. 👍
This was an awesome post, I will be giving him a call next week I've been looking for someone to help me sort out what I'm going to do for my turbos. It was very informative seems like an awesome guy. Your content is awesome keep it up.
That's awesome that you hooked Cooper up on the welder.
Really stoked for this!
Count me in on the foundry tour. I like seeing how stuffs made especially when its MADE IN AMERICA. Can't wait to see the 4l60 melter in action its gonna be good shit!!!
Doing very similar right now on escalade 78/75, and decaps, then progressively upgrade when things "melt" lol. Tuned in for sure 👍
Love to see more of that Isuzu!!
I'd like to see that 72.9 mm on that 5.3. that turbo would light up like a candle
More turbo tech stuff with Robert would be great. and of course his truck
Gosh dang right bfgs with the white letters out cant get any better than that
Great video! He has seemingly endless turbo knowledge. If I ever decide to turbo my g8 I know where I'll go.
Let's see more on it this guy sounds like he knows what's up
He definitely does
@@Stapleton42 most ppl don't understand gear ratios and transmission drive ratios and it plays a huge part in launching these big trucks
We need more of him
That dude is awesome I'd like to hear more about that that's more up my line
Tune in tomorrow for round 2
Man I wish I had half the knowledge that turbo guy knows about turbos and compressors👍
HYESSS!!! Swapped a 6.0 into my 2006 Yukon tuned. i'll need to have cash on hand for when my 4l60 craps first before adding this.
Looking forward to this build. Keep up the good work!
I've been researching all the turbo folks. And FP was next on my list. This answers so many questions for me. Family man racing also uses these. I think that will work perfect for the 5.3 we are going to put in our S10. Thanks man. 🦅🇺🇸✌️
Thanks man. Get with me when they’re released and I can get you a deal 🤟🏻
@@Stapleton42 Will do brother. 🦅🇺🇸✌️
He’s the mad scientist of turbos.👍
Lol I like how you turned to the mannequin real quick right as you walked in looks like it kinda startled you lol. Great content again, keep it comin.
Cool informative video mang!.. love learning.. thank you.
Good stuff man! I’ll be calling Them for my next whirlyboi project 👍🏻
Awesome video and very interesting!
Like the approach for the stage 1 turbo with just applying that and the cold and hot side of it. Think it can be a huge market for it to just get that extra power. A lot like in the mid 90s when you had very little tuning ability on the surroundings and not much data to put in. When you go from mid 90s and older NA engines that is.
Loved this video. Hearing all of the educational stuff is pretty bad ass, dude is smart. Also, i bet that 4banging camaro would hurt some feelings.
at 14:32 I see a suburban already thats ripe for a Cummins swap! Uncle Cecil the suburban diesel coming in hot! hopefully it was a 2500.
Looking forward to this build!
I'm so pumped for this build
I can say unless tial moved places you would never know they make them parts I've lived in or around owosso michigan my whole life lol
Badass turbos. Need one on my 1uz v8 lol
The boostedhoe is freak’n cool
Excited for this build!
I wanna see more on the isuzu rodeo. I have a clean 1st gen rodeo with a motor and trans that are on last leg and I was thinking about a ls.
I just now clicked on your Vlog and got a Cadillac commercial
Epic lol
I need that turbo......😂😂😂😂
Man love the great info from the professionals I wish more ppl did this with there sponsors!!! I have one question tho when he said he honed the cylinder to gain ring end gap. How can you gain the ring gap needed by honing without killing piston to wall clearance, incuring piston slap and wearing out the cylinder?
I don’t know
@@Stapleton42 lol that makes two of us!!! Keep up the good work bud!
Thanks man 😂
Fp ftw. Love my fp zero. Killed a pte 6262 in under 100 miles.
Great Content today sir!
Thanks dude 💪🏻
Awesome video
Crossing Country in Comfort
Wow, cool ceo! Cool stuff, just loved it when he was saying they are doing stuff for a 2 liter! I have an VW T5 with 2 liter diesel, chip tuned to 175 hp, have they a better turbo for my car????
I’m sure they do
I'm going with 220, 221, whatever it takes.
This guy can talk cars
Great video
"We are not gonna touch anything. It's naturally gapped @ 200k miles"🤣🤣🤣
very informative
Would love to see more of boosthoe!
Cool man
this is gonna be a minty build
Owasso MI, I live 45 min from there.
damn that dude looks like Jerry Garcia!
Doing a great job man. 🖒
Thanks man
Naturally gapped 200,000 mile piston rings. We're just gonna send it. Lol
Bring on the boosthoe
Yeet i live close to Owasso mich found where i wanna work 😂🤘
BoostHoe BoostHoe BoostHoe Yes please
his explanation is perfect for Step 1 but buying parts for Step 4 making no sense. That is what keeps guys from driving their cars and then losing interest!! Great video man
It depends on your approach to building. Some guys don’t want to go to step 4 right away or have no intentions of going to step 4. However if you’re going to end up at step 5 just buy the stuff for step 5 if you can afford it the first time. That’s my perspective
