    We had the one you have and the first thing our then 18 month old did, was trying to climb over it and topple the entire tower over. So we returned it. She wasn't interested in anything kitchen related until 2 1/2 anyway, so we just got a step stool with railing for the bathroom. That was perfect for her. She was and is extremely tall, so it wasn't a problem for her to reach everything.
    Our second just turned one year old and started climbing that step stool with railing (that is now in the kitchen) before she could even walk. Not safe. So we decided it is time for a kitchen helper.
    With siblings, it was important to us that they both can be in it to avoid arguments but also be slim enough for our small apartment kitchen. And the most important feature is sturdiness for us - I have two tall wild climbers here. We eneded up with a plastic one. SDADI Kids, also ordered from Amazon - not very Montessori with the material but it has the amazing feature that it can be filled with sand. That makes it incredibly sturdy. Even my kids can't topple that over. Plus it wipes down really easy, which is definitely a plus.

      Oh wow my son hasn't tried to climb over the top on it before. He's been pretty good with it, but he's always been a bit more on the cautious side when compared to my daughter at the same age.
      Montessori does lean towards wood, but no issues with plastic as long as the function is good!

      My toddler did exactly the same thing. Turns out she can topple it both on the step side and the other side. But, we still love it, we just have to be observant of her which we aim to be in the kitchen anyway

    Glad you covered this! My 2.5 Yr old son loves to be involved when we’re in the kitchen and he’s very tall but a regular step stool just doesn’t seem to be doing it. We also have a 1 month old daughter who will use it in the future so it’s good to hear yours has lasted for 2 years already.

      Learning towers would be perfect for you son. Since your son is tall you have a bit more options on the styles of learning tower.

      That is a nice present that she'll be using for at least a couple more years!

    Hi Kevin! Just want to say I love your videos! I I am a first time mom to a 10 month old and your videos are so immensely helpful. You’ve taught me things that I didn’t know that I needed to know.

    Sadly the IKEA stool was discontinued a couple years ago. You can still find them on Amazon but they're much more expensive. Love our learning tower, though. We have the SDADI natural wood one from Amazon and got it for my son for his first birthday. He can get in and out, move it around the kitchen, and reach anything he needs on his own.

      Oh wow I must have bought it right before it was discontinued. (Probably 3+ years ago). I should’ve paid more attention to the location on when I looked at Ikea website. It showed in stock for Australia 😆

      IKEA seems to discontinue all the best Montessori items - Flisat shelves are now gone from the UK!

    Hello, thanks for the video! Can you say anything about the sprout kids sous chef learning tower? It’s on the pricier end but looks a lot sturdier and safer than all other options.

      @kevin-lu  Před 9 měsíci

      I’ve never used the sprout kids before so I can’t really judge it too much. I do have their weaning table and it’s pretty nice. Install on their stuff usually doesn’t require tools so that’s a nice plus, but could get frustrating to build for the first time.

    As much as I have held out getting one of these I'm coming to the realisation at almost 22 months the answer to this is yes yes yes just wish companies wouldn't extort us for the privilege they are so ridiculously overpriced it's disgusting. The one you have is currently £357 on Amazon

    • @kevin-lu
      @kevin-lu  Před rokem

      Wow the price seems significantly higher than what I paid. Is it just more expensive in the UK? At least in the US there are a handful that are like $130 and a couple even lower than that on Amazon.
