- Whats its like daily in the British Army after you join can be a huge question on people's minds. So in this video im explaining what its actually like in Regiment after basic training and in between operational deployments. Please be aware that this is based on my experience's in my british army Regiment however the general idea is the same across the Army. If you were to join the Royal Irish Regiment then this is exactly how routine will look for you.

Thanks for another great video! I am just waiting now for my medical records to be processed and then a selection date.
Between your videos and fabzy (I think that's how it spelt) I am absolutely buzzing! I feel I am prepared and focused.
I cannot thank you enough! If I see you on a barracks somewhere I am 100% coming over to thank you personally 👌
Absolutely legendary mate. Thank you so much
No problems at all mate! I’m buzzing your buzzing to get started lol if you keep that mindset you’ll not go far wrong and remember basic is just a game, get through the process then that’s when it truly starts 💪
Good luck buddy. With that attitude, you’ll smash it!
@Leon O Shea have you been practicing the bleep test etc? I'm at all my goals now too. Hitting targets etc consistently so I am so excited now
@@0smuzz0 thank you mate
you going to AFC?
Having had a Military career, this is spot on, Good drills mate.
Amazing video as usual thankyou for the advice and stuff thankyou for serving our country 💪🏻❤️
this video was absolutely amazing, thank you for busting some myths i thought were true and giving me a general oversight into the army!
Great vid Luke mate still loving the new intro. I’m just waiting on my med records to be processed and then selecting my assessment date. Ur vids have really helped me stay motivated during the pandemic
Yeah very happy with the intro, I’ve shortened it as it’s slightly longer. Great news with the med records I hope they don’t take to long for you and you get your date for assessment soon enough.
was in the infantry in the mid to late 80's and the way you explain a days work is completely different to how it was back then sounds like they treat you as a grown up now giving you time to self better yourself, doing different sports. It's like a total different army even the uniforms
How often would you have an operation or be deployed
Brilliant video mate, as always. Can't wait to get in the regiment, if I win this appeal. Keep up the great content 👍☘
Great Video. Perfect lifestyle who does not want to join mainstream life.. Currently going through selection for Sandhurst
It is indeed! Happy days with Sandhurst the best of luck on your journey!
gonna grab some tea and watch the video, be right back!
Happy days! Cant beat a good brew 💪☕️
Great video!
very informative video 👍🏻🍀
Thanks mate glad you got some value!
So you talked about slef-development, Could you do a video about what opportunities are offered by the army for that as well as how the army accommodates you going elsewhere (like the Open University or part time Uni) to learn. Thank you! much appreciated for all your help!
Epic video mate!
Great video. Could you maybe do one that covers your specific history and the path you have chosen to get to where you are now? Also sort that mop out.
Nice Video, and having friends (ret'd military buddies) who's kids (and some grand kids now ) are currently serving, i have to say it is a totally different army from when I served. Sports afternoon is unchanged, and arguably neither is the training or duties every day. However Friday afternoons and Monday mornings (WTF)? 08:30 every Monday was either the OC's or CO's working parade. Every other Friday was CO' s PT session (regimental run), and the other Fridays were the OC's (x country, or Battle run / Combat fitness test / Battle fitness test). Even if you were going on leave for a couple of weeks don't bank on getting away prior to 16:30 hours. That said the drinking was a lot more relaxed then (we were likely the best functioning alcoholics in the world), with Troop / Platoon bars, Sqn / Company Bars plus the Naffi and every bar down town, (and a great deal more). It wasn't a job, nor a career, it was a way of life, and I loved every minute (although maybe not always at the time) You have never been cold, wet, tired, hungry and Pissed off, until you have been British Army cold, wet, tired, hungry and pissed off!) Very best years of my life!
Good going Luke!!
Thanks mate 🤙
Great video mate! Loved the editing and appreciate the consistent content again 👊
Thanks mate and yes sticking with it this time slightly difficult but if I’ve red eyes you’ll know recording happened during the witching hours 😂

Great videos mate! In the process of joining up now and I can’t speak for everyone else but your videos help with the nerves of the unknown and what to expect once there, keep it up!
Same here mate, got my phone interview at the end of this month but still in 2 minds of what role I want to go into.

Love your vids mate. I'm waiting for my med to go through and planning to join RA. Not as 'cool' as infantry but something I always wanted to do! I do look forward to the video about the opportunities, and extra training available though - sounds like a great shout. Thanks again for your time & vids man !
@tom the cat123 Royal Artillery mate
Nothing wrong with the artillery, you get to make big guns go bang!
Regards from an ex fusilier.
Must not be a troll - as someonme that went through the world of the Infantry in the early 90's I enjoy your content, so much has changed... so much stays the same.
Great video ...what usually happens on weekends?
Could you do a video on life as a dog handler and what type of things they would do daily/exercises please, something I’m looking into 😃
Yes mate this is definitely something I can look into as one of our officers has transferred from there.
Good job
@@Rangermedia cheers!
I worked with an ex dog handler, his opinion of the job wasn’t very glowing, however he was an EX dog handler so he wouldn’t give glowing reports.
I watched a vid about RIR, I was surprised to see some guys from ROI, like the old days, I tried to join the RAF in 87, parents ROI, RC, "What do you think about going to Ireland?" Me: "I don't mind so long as I am on base all the time", RAF: "Well you could be asked to pick up a gun and back up an army patrol", Me: "Well I don't think I'll be doing that", whole thing has changed now, so good to see young ROI in the army and not have to worry about stuff any more.................Good vid......................Blessings..................Slan.................
There's always the Irish Army
Awesome video! A video about the SF forces, and especially about selection courses would be pretty useful! How to prepare for it, (the physical part) maybe coaches, etc. And what a civil have to go through 'til he/she can start selection.
Join the army first and serve 3 years then you can apply for sf till then don’t worry you’re self
@@akatheboy1071 As far as I know, I asked the British Army's official website, and they said it takes only 12 months until I can attempt sf selection. They said it.
@@SD-he3pp I would take longer to get on it you have to be a good soldier first of all and get the basics right first three years is fast in my opinion and the army website is run by civilian companies that don’t always know what they are talking about

Great leadership by the Corporal with the nasopharyngeal airway inserted, it's pretty unpleasant, but he stayed pretty cool with it. Did they practice sticking cannulas in you too?
Yes, just in a controlled environment though with CMTs and MO there.
@@Rangermedia But did they say "civvies pay thousands for this sort of thing"?
Could you do a video about a day to day life in the royal signals as a ewop
Very keen on the development you mentioned at the end. Question: what's your experience like with Physios in the army? Civilian or Badged?
Good question.
My old section commander at ITC 4:05 😁
In ITC on week 5 joining Royal Irish cant wait to get by caubeen on week 10
It’s a great day when you get your first Caubeen on your head mate !

Momentous day when you get your caubeen. Had mine in 1985 and still have it now. Great to see new Rangers coming through 👍🏻 🟢☘️⚫️ FAB
@@veteranwarrior8674 thanks for your service look forward to getting my caubeen as well
Every morning in the Scots guards when in barracks we had a roll call or muster parade usually taken by the sergeant in waiting or corporal in waiting, just checking who was on parade, who was away on courses etc and sometimes the CSM would make an announcement about upcoming events. Very rarely would an officer be on parade. After muster we split off in platoons where we did our own PT first thing then a shower and go onto platoon training or vehicle maintenance. Wednesday afternoons were always for sports. The platoon commander sometimes devised a training programme if we were going on exercise, first aid, map reading, gunnery training on a desk top trainer etc. You never got bored in battalion because there was always something going on. After work hours it was up to you what you did, some lads did extra phys some went drinking it was up to you as long as you turned up on parade the next day. It was up to you to read company orders outside the company office after tea, things like courses, barrack guards, promotions etc. Sometimes on a Friday afternoon after duties you could go home for the weekend. 😊
PT every day, weapons cleaning once a week, up grading courses, Promotions Courses, Wednesday Sports afternoon, Military training, preparation and giving Lessons. Guard duties and volunteer for tasks outside Unit, attached to other units worldwide. It goes on and on, the opportunities are endless as it's up to you where and what career you want.
Amazing.
Do you have alot of travel commitments in the army? Like always having to take a train or coach somewhere? Plane even?
Nice one, good to see still have sports afternoon lol. Remember "if you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined".
Great video mate! Been watching your videos for the past couple of months now and loved them all! I've just turned 26 years old myself I love the idea of joining and doing my service but the only question I will ask is that, is it worth joining at my age now ?
If you love the idea, then you've already answered your own question.
The only person who can tell you if it's worth it, is you. My experience was, it was worth it, but my experience may not be the same as someone else's.
Good luck on whatever path you choose.
Yes. It is. Get amongst it.
I joined at 24, when I went through there were people all the way up to 32. Try it, if you don’t you’ll only regret it when you’re too old
Could you do a vid based on 29 commando or 4/73 sphinx battery I'm about to start phase 1 and eventually want to join one of them maybe once I'm lance bombardier and fully confident
So obviously artillery is not my background but I’ll do some digging for you and see what I can put together!
when you eventually get to phase two training you'll get given a PPP form to fill choosing what regiment you'd want to go to (depending on spaces avalible in each regiment). FYI - you'll get told not to wait around! if you want to go to a specialist unit, go there straight away!
Can you make a video about the worst parts of the British Army?
I was in 1972-1976 still have fond memories.
What’s day to day life like when you’re posted some where, such as abroad?
Being posted abroad is pretty much the same as your posting here in the UK. I was stationed in Germany for three years in the 90's and the day to day running of the Regiment is the same as it is here in the UK. You have a daily routine in and around Regimental duties, such as Guard duties and training for Operations. Weekends are pretty much free unless you are on duty roster like Guard, Guard Commander or Duty Sergeant.
So is this similar to the marines etc. or is it more specific to the army?
When we weren't busy in US Army 1990s soldiers could sometimes go to university and take a class or two
Do you lads not get a 2 hour NAAFI break at 1000hrs?
Would I get to do boxing at a high level in the army? I'm 28 just waiting for my medical records to be sent to the army and I'm boxing obsessed
Sgt .Did you ever meet an AGC company clerk aptly called Charity
I was wondering do they do motocross in the army I heard they do?
Royal Irish entitled to 12 flights a year like the lads based in N.Ireland??
May I asked you somthing.. about if you're good in your sport choosen are we able to get opportunities for future in that sport.?
Absolutely, if you have a supportive CO. I know guys that competed at national level for Snowboarding, angling, rugby and cross country.
My mate in royal anglian said he lives in storrs except evryone else who olays xbox and party
Are you still in the British army
What is life like from living on block compared to say living in accommodation with your family or significant other is a big difference to lifestyle or is there not much difference?
You’ll get a hell of a lot more sleep in the single accommodation away from children 😂 if you have any. It’s just a big block you’ll share with the people you work with mate so think of it like student accommodation if you’ve any experience with it.
@@Rangermedia haha that’s a good way of putting it 😂 cheers for the reply and insight to life there.
No problems at all mate and yes that’s basically it, defo a good experience in the accommodation block before transitioning out of it.
Some tips:
Save some money, don't keep pissing it up or blowing it on car finance. Buy a banger.
Buy a property asap
Educate, the forces will pay you to a degree level. Use every years allowance
I have my interview/brief on the 4th of may 😄😄😄
What should I expect??

@@Rangermedia Thankyou
@@dylanbarker6400 no problems at all mate.
Is it hard to keep a relationship while being in the army?
Yes. It takes a particular person to put up with always coming second best to the military, then being left for long periods of time alone or to bring up kids alone. Then there’s the trust. It can work, but there is a large proportion that don’t. However, relationships come and go but your career is yours. I’ve known blokes leave for a woman only for her to dump him not long after. Don’t be that guy
Back in my day it involved walking round with a spanner in your hand ( always look busy ) and back to the block for a few beers
When’s your next deployment
Rifle cleaning, PT and PlayStation..
I'm hearing a ton of people saying that joining the infantry right now with the governments reforms coming in might not be a great idea. Any truth in this?
Not a great idea in what way? I can only speak on my own personal experiences and unit . We are as busy as ever with all the original opportunities still here with a lot more added with regards to getting away etc
@@Rangermedia they talk about cuts to different units.
@@PerringtonBear honestly can’t speak for others but where I am at there is nothing like that happening.
When I wasn't eating egg banjos, I was getting pissed!
Snap
Is there even any point in joining if the army is getting budget cuts and getting rid of 10.000 troops
No one is being made redundant and the budget was increased hence the reason why we are about to receive new equipment. Service isn’t for everyone but currently within my unit we won’t see each other until at least the end of 2022 down to us being so busy and every team on different deployments. As a battalion we will be on 3 different continents this year alone.
Around 8,200 leave the army each year due to ending service eg, time expired, medical discharges , or have come to the conclusion that they think there is some thing better to go and do. As Ranger Media has said it's not for everyone you may find that out sooner or later. Also its a young persons game, your only young one give it ago..
Every job has the risk of redundancy. I did 13 years in total in uniform, amalgamated twice, never made redundant, but in civvy life I have been made redundant 3 times (oil and gas industry).
PT, hanging around in the garages and drinking brews
How similar is this to the marines because I’m wanting to join after college?
What, the army or marines?
The selection process for the marines is more complex compared to the army and requires a lot more muscular endurance and fitness. I'd suggest doing some research about the entry requirements on the royal navy website if your thinking of joining.

wow lovely, I never knew you are tasked with your own personal kit, it's awesome. it makes one bond with their kit
I have a question, as an infantryman are you forced to use the L85 standard army issued rifle?
It doesn't matter if you are a cook, mechanic, dog handler or any other position, first and foremost, you are a soldier. So yes you will be "forced " to use the L85. You might end up specialising in something else, like a sniper, or IT, but you will still be expected to stay proficient with your small arms.
What the fuck else do you think you could use?
A catapult? Crossbow? Spear?
Or maybe you want to bring your own shooter?
🙄
@@JammyDodger45 No, I was thinking of throwing my frying pan and deflecting bullets like an xmen… wtf do you think? I asked because I wasn’t sure if you’re stuck the L85 or you could opt for something else
