First year growing summer squash. I’m definitely gonna try growing vertically
Nice ! Go for it ! The best way 🙏🏾🌱
Thanks man. I kindly knew all of this but this year i'm getting a lot of flowers but no veg. I just need trim it down. But i like the idea growing vertically so it doesn't vine 4ft away from original plant.
Yea growing Vertically is such a great way.. I hope your plants bring in some vegetables soon 🙏🏾🌱 and thank you.. happy gardening 🌱
SO helpful, every video is something I need to see/hear/learn. Thank you
Glad it was helpful. Thank you so much 🙏🏾🌱
Thank you for showing how to grow zucchini upward! I’ve never done this but I’m looking forward to it! ❤
Your welcome! You should definitely try it 🌱
Me too I like his instructions he made it very easy to follow now I'm going to get it and see how it works
My zucchini and squash are coming up great I am in Texas thank you for your video now I know what to do to make them go upward I'll keep you posted thanks again you're awesome on your videos
I am glad to hear that and your welcome.. and yes keep update...
came to look for THIS EXACT INFO.... this was PERFECT.. For my sometimes HARD AL clay dirt, after it settles and plants are growing and NEED a support, but I struggle to get through the clay for tomatoes cages or stakes for other climbers, I use a LONG paddle bit to start that whole. THANK YOU! I subscribed!
Your welcome and glad to hear that...
And thank you so much 🙏🏾.. very much appreciated
Start a compost pile but don’t
fall for ratios turning watering and all the tricks. Every once in a while throw little dirt in with anything green. Save kitchen scraps NO MEAT NO CITRUS. At the time of leaf drop pulverize leaves. Bag in plastic thoroughly soak (where you will keep for next summer cause they will be heavy) tie shutpoke holes near tie. You will be shocked next summer to tear open find gold. Dark rich leaf mold. Mix some in your clay soil mix rest into decaying pile
Keep adding kitchen scraps grass clippings other green matter.
Repeat.
Soon your soil will improve and be a joy to garden in.
Hello from Ontario I loved your content
Hello far away .. and thank you so much.. I very much appreciated it..
My wife REFUSES to prune leaves away. If she catches me doing it, I get yelled at. Our squash plants are so leafy, the bees go in and never find their way back out!
Lol I understand 😁 .. a light prone helps a lot with air flow could production and you right with the bees it's easy for them to pollinate 🙏🏾🌱
"the bees go in and never find their way back out" 😂 hahaha that just made my day!
The leaves are nutritious and delicious. Should be win-win to (lightly) prune
@@life_score how do you prepare them? Do you eat them raw or cook them?
@@mKierstenkI like it in Lassi Stew (yogurt based sauce) along with squash.
Something like: czcams.com/users/shortsj09rWQaV6tE
I like your channel a lot man
Thank you 🙏🏾🌱 very much appreciated... Have a blessed day
Thank you for showing me the new way, at least new to me, I don’t think I’ll go back to letting them spread on the ground
You're welcome.. and I'm with you on this. I never let them run anymore. I just grow them vertically now..
I’m always looking for ways to maximise space. Upwards it is. I didn’t know how to look after zucs like this though, great video
Happy to help! 🌱

Hi can you post a video of squash growing vertically on the string trellis? Having a hard time understandjng how the string is strong enough to support several squashes
Oh that's a good one! I did grow butternut squash and string before.. Once you double this string they could hold up a lot of stuff.. I'll definitely try to do a video on this..
Just found you & sub’d
👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Thank you! I much appreciate it 🌱🙏🏾
New sub here 🎉. Q: What's your take on using milk as calcium😮? Also, have you ever pollinated with a flower that dropped? (Female in bloom, no males in sight)
Nope I did pollinate with a flower that dropped before... Milk does work , organic milk ... Some people even use power milk.. I use organic garden lime , it works pretty fast .. and thank you so much 🙏🏾🌱
Can you briefly explain the application process for the lime? How much to spread near each plant? Thank you 🙏🏻 Great video. Thanks for the info. New Sub here!
Thank you 🙏🏾🌱 I normally mix it with water and Just pour it on the plant root...
Here is a video on it

I’m new to ur channel. I live in Pennsylvania so wondering if I’m too late in growing zucchini & squash? Thank uou
Nope you still have time.. Start right away..
I love. Pennsylvania is beautiful up there. I came up to Lancaster before...
Hello again!! Great videos! Question… I had about 4 zucchini’s coming in at the same time. Harvested big good one on the bottom then noticed the next 2 up kind of stopped growing and had dark brown almost black spots on the end like it was rotting?? I removed them and some lower leaves as well! What might cause that?
Maybe it didn't pollinate or the plant needed calcium .. try adding garden lime for calcium or whole milk with water.. also make sure every 2 weeks to add fertilizer.. as the plant , growing and producing
@@Greentgarden I use CalMag weekly and use some Bloom which is Phosphate heavy weekly as well. I bet they didn't polinate because I was having troubles getting the flowers to open, things are going better now that they are in a 7 gallon pot! Always appreciate your advice, you've helped me so much! Thank you!
Your welcome 🙏🏾🌱
Hi, where do you buy seeds? I see you grow a lot in pots.
On Amazon, check in my description box. I have a link to survival Garden Seeds in there too.. yes I love growing in containers too
Do you save your own seeds or do you buy new ones each season?
I save some seeds and buy some ..
So I tried to tie one of the plants this weekend. It was finally long enough. When I tilted it back to tie, I heard a crack and the center stalk snapped. It didn't break off, but damaged it enough that the leaves and flowers are wilted now, and is dead. I was very gentle with it when tilting it towards the pole. I have 2 more, but am afraid to touch them now. Any suggestions? Thanks
Oh no so sorry , try to bring the stake closer and the twist tie longer So you don't have to pull the plant too much .. place the stake 2-3 inches away from the main stems .. take your time or if anything wait for the plant to grow a bit taller..
So what if you don't tie them and they don't grow vertically is that bad?
It is not bad , It just takes over a lot of space in your garden..
Good question. They lie on the ground get ridiculous over grown recipe for disease bugs. Prune to reduce places for bugs to eat Read up on vine borer
Thank you for this video. New subscriber here. This my first time growing Zucchini so I'm need all the help I can get. I have about 10 leaves but no flowers yet. Some of the leaves are touching the soil but didn't know when to prune. Can I prune before the blooms?
I'm growing 3 plants only.
1 in a tote container, 1 in a gardenbed and 1 in a grow bag. I'm in zone 8a Va and I didn't transplant them until June 7th. Any tips would be appreciated. ❤
You're welcome! You could go ahead and remove the two lower leaves and try growing it. Vertically upward this way you will save space. Getting better Air flow on your plant will grow better ... Always make sure to add fertilizer every 2 weeks and increase calcium also water every 2 to 3 days.. If your plants grow all male flowers, remove some to speed up the growing process and this will bring in female which is the fruit
Thank you for your response.
I feel better knowing I can go ahead and prune the lower leaves. I'm also planning to grow vertically. Can you suggest a good fertilizer?
I have Espoma Garden Lime and I see it's high in Calcium. At what stage do I add to the soil.
Sorry for all the questions I'm new at growing Zucchini.
Don't be sorry to ask a question to help your garden.. this is the place to ask all questions! So garden lime is great to increase calcium in plants such as zucchini, squash, pumpkin peppers and tomatoes.. you could use organic garden tone as a fertilizer with garden lime .. add this to your big plants every 2 weeks , this way your plant stays healthy and will produce well
Great I'll definitely setup my schedule and add these to my routine. Thank you again.
Happy gardening
Nice ! That sounds good .. you're welcome and thank you 🙏🏾🌱
Hi there! Grateful for your videos! Can you address the need for shade cloth? I live in CA zone 9B, and we can go from 85 degrees to 105 in a matter of 48 hours. I bought 50% and 70% shade cloth, but am not sure when to use either.
P.S: My 'garden' (a few containers...as all I have is concrete) only gets sun in the hottest part of the day, from about 1:pm on. Please help. Thanks!
So shading clothes will help keep the plant a bit cooler and avoid sunburn , I would start off using the 50% shade cloth and see how the plants do with that .. definitely start using it once the weather hits over. 90° .. It will definitely keep the plant a bit cooler.. and thank you so much 🙏🏾🌱
@@Greentgarden Will do! :)
Does pruning squash cause bugs and viruses to invade the plant or no? Or would it even matter if that did? I see a lot of conflicting options let me know what you think! Thanks for the video!
So in my experience it doesn't matter how you grow them. If there's a squash bug or a vine borer, they will attack your garden no matter what.. growing them vertically you have less chance to get disease and if any bugs attack, you could see them right away before your plan gets any damage.. If your plant is running in the ground and it's covered with all the leaves, it's really hard to see any bugs.
@@Greentgarden thank you that makes so much sense I didn’t think of it that way! Thank you for answering!
Your welcome! And thank you 🙏🏾🌱
I put my stakes too far away. Will 3 inches hurt the roots?
No it ok wouldn't .. The plant has a lot of roots so be fine ..
@Greentgarden Thank you much for the video! It was helpful. 🙂
Glad it was helpful. Thank you 🙏🏾🌱
Won’t hurt them at all, I often place them inch or 2 away
thank you for making the visual teaching. I understand better when you show me how to do it, step by step, perfect! 🍆🥒😄
Your welcome my friend.. Happy gardening 🌱
Stake is upside down
So these stake is double headed or you could use both side which is pretty cool.. but. They pointed caps falls off after a while.. happy Sunday
GreenT and company:
Folks, we are overrun with Aphids in the garden. They are on everything. I’ve used Neem oil, insecticidal soap using peppermint oil and mint, i’ve used insect dust, Pyrethrin (which seemed to decrease the infestation by a third or so) but the Aphids still are all over my plants. They especially are on my tomatoes and my leafy greens. I picked up ladybugs early in the season, but they must have flown away. Does anyone have a remedy?
Also, every year we fight with fungal diseases on the leaves of nearly all our plants. Does anyone use copper spray or some other technique? I’ve used hydrogen peroxide on my tomatoes with decent results, but does not seem to work on everything.
I appreciate any assistance. 🙏
Very sorry to hear , sounds like you try so much stuff and ways ..
Try this
1/3 teaspoon of baking soda to 500ml of warm water. Also, add half a teaspoon of vegetable oil and mix well. You can also add 7-8 drops of liquid soap to make the solution even more effective. .. did some research and came across that , ..
@@Greentgarden thanks GreenT!
Welcome 🙏🏾🌱
@@Greentgarden I was pruning like a champ this morning! Question on the pumpkins, the vine is long, do you prune all the leaves up to the first fruit like vertical zucchini or just light pruning on leaves and cut growth points and new sucker vines, or some other method?
Lol nice work champ! I would do a light pruning and remove some of the suckers pieces. The side extensions that will run and take over your garden.. about to get out there too , cleaning and pruning here I come lol
Gloves!!! You’re gonna NEED GLOVES!!! 😖
