I don’t personally acknowledge nor have bothered with any Yu-Gi-Oh! developments past 2002, and this shit just sounds like a headache and the cards sound unbelievably lame
But modern yugioh is just filled with unbelievable disbalanced effects these days and the game feels like Konami just tries to milk it for money a few more years without caring about the TCG itself and where it actually came from.
Doesnt help that most of the playerbase seems to be socially challenged teens and adults that arent finding their spot in society so yugioh offers them a sort of protected shelter from the irl world.
@@lifequality Konami design the game to be an archetypal centric game, which means they are fundamentally going to be a combo based deck, board breaking archetypes like vaylantz, omega negate deck like synchron and many more.

The Threatening Roar part was golden because that's basically how I went about my time in Master Duel. Not to win, but to troll Meta Deck Players by intentionally stacking my deck with a bunch of field sweeping traps, spells and monsters and its always funny to see them crumble and forfeit when after a 5 minute long setup you just Mirror Force or Raigeki their whole set-up immediately.
The meta mindset is always to beat other meta, so they get mad whenever people play rogue or techs they never expected. As long as you're not playing stun, you're doing good work by reminding them non-meta cards exist and can ruin their day xD

i appreciate both the accuracy to the anime writing, while also not treating the modern game like trash, but still accepting its issues
it's almost like we could all be normal about the game for ten seconds and actually address some of the issues it has lmao
The only issue the modern game has is that the banlist hits for Tear have been too harsh. Tear Ishizu is the most fun deck ever: despite self-mill being inherently luck-based, it was still consistent enough to almost always combo off, and the luck factor made the thrill of getting a god mill feel even better. It had the ability to dip into other archetypes that other decks wouldn't, so the deckbuilding (especially in the extra deck) had lots of opportunities to tailor for countering other Tear builds, meaning deckbuilding in the Tear 0 format wasn't stagnant at all-it was ever-evolving. The mirror match was one of the highest skill ceilings ever seen in the game, too, just because of the inherent nature of reciprocal milling meaning your biggest playmakers can turn your opponent's engine on too, so you always have to be calculating your odds of being able to deal with how many disruptions your opponent can bring out on turn 0, as well as keeping track of which tear names you've used, sometimes intentionally chainblocking with a redundant tear name just so that you guarantee you get one fuse going, not to mention the huge chain links caused by you and your opponent interrupting each other over and over with everything from Havnis, to the shufflers, to Redoer... and on MD you even got to use Snow and Spright Elf (though tbh I don't think the latter should be legal as long as Merrli and Diviner are... but it sure is a power trip, having even more disruptions and more ways to mill 8 and feel great!)
No the issue is that they haven't yet printed Blue-Eyes White Dragon with the exact text of pre-errata CED.
Which they should because I really want to see how gaslit the internet can REALLY get.
:)
The problem was, even judges at the tournaments were losing track of whose turn it was. The deck simply had too many actions and interactions and should have been excavate instead of mill. Excavate would have kept the deck t1 and mostly unbanned, but we got mill, and that became degeneracy.
Also a high skill ceiling isn’t fun when it’s only one deck, that’s not healthy.
It kinda sounds like you are trying to control dissent. If people don't speak up about the issues with the game, nothing changes, unless if that's your goal, then be honest about it.

@idosarts_and_krafts they fast dorwarded a hellish amount of it. Could've been a lot longer if they decided to give Joey Bystials, D.D. Crow or effects that activate in grave.
Honestly the way modern Yugioh has evolved, as a great man once said, "The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain," which is to say that sometimes the simplest move, can shut down the most complex of stratagems. As we see here, even an old card like Threatening Roar can stop an OTK dead in it's tracks.
Was casually playing my ghostrick deck against an opponent with Ra disciples, even managed to get Ra on the field, used all but 100 life points for it, only to card effect Ra face down, destroy it, and attack directly.
I mean, kinda? It can definitely delay an OTK. But at this point, if you can't stop the huge play _before_ it happens, you're kinda screwed. Everything these days either has built-in protection, negation or some way of coming back to the board.

I'm definitly in team Joey "old Yu-gi-oh !" ... Back in my time, Dark armed dragon was so powerful and everyone complain about how speedy the game had become 😅😅😅
The days before Elemental Heroes were wild. I remember having games that actually lasted 20+ turns of back and forth, and even decking out opponents without having any draw/discard effects other than them playing a single Pot of Greed.
I think yugioh players are on track to become lawyers with the amount of effects they are playing with.
I would say i wanna see it in some way but Ace Attorney series kinda shows what that would be like.
Interrupts in mid sentence, drawing evidence and conffesion out by taking, mind gaming, rule playing, straight up supernatural powering to worn down the other side.
Now i wanna see a Ace Attorney card game. ;D
"WE MUST FIRST DISCARD THE TOP 10 CARDS OF OUR DECK TO THE GRAVEYARD ! ! !"
🃏
I have a feeling Kaiba's face when Threatening Roar came out is exactly how many players in master duel felt playing against my attack locking mill deck. So many blue eyes, golden chickens of ra, XYZ Zeus wiffing at burning my board, monster spamming decks, Rhongos, and loads of some very underwhelming Maxx Cs since the mill deck hardly special summoned. Might not longer play but this video gives me a glimpse of what their pain filled faces had to have looked like.
Then he busts out the cyber stein combo board that was legal for a format
Your combo didn't exist when I was still playing, got bored and left before stuff like that came in, nice try though@@ibra8096 The biggest trouble to my deck in that combo though is Natruia Exterion which I just scoop to. But as you was allowed only 1 copy of Stein in the deck, if I managed to toss that copy into the grave before you can use it you'd be the one scooping.
Best part is he used that card canonically
@@MegaMachiOnline I assume you mean Threatening Roar by 'That card' but yeah, felt hilarious sitting there in Master Duel watching those 10m turns be forced to hit the breaks when their attack step suddenly vanishes.
Plz do another one but Joey comes back with all the modern red eyes support and thinks he is actually good now with kaiba complaining that they banned all the tearlament cards but then kaiba is playing full power Kashtira and the same thing happens again
Kaiba's reaction to Threatening Roar is absolute perfection. It says so much, all without saying anything.
Oh and the voice acting is phenomenal! Top tier stuff!
I think we've all been kaiba here if we've ever bullied a casual deck with something that's actually competent and they get s few turns with something like threatening roar or one day of peace.
I just got to this part as I was reading the comments and it was priceless 😂
Personally, I love it when I pull off stuff like that with my filthy casual decks. Half the time, the try-hards just forfeit thinking I'm running a stall deck and quit believing they are about to lose half an hour of their lives to do nothing.
@@IC-23 Nah bruh, this game is over. I activate Messenger of Peace.
@@johnlucas2838 damn that's crazy, Accesscode/Knightmare Phoenix/Baronne/Literally any Destruction Effect to pop the back row, response?
This vid convinced me that dueling a modern yugioh in duel disk is absolutely stupid
The voices, the usage of the US OST, 3:54-3:56, are just on *POINT!*
There are people that play certain decks to keep up with the meta, and then there's me that plays certain decks because of characters he's liked in the show.
*Reason I play Battlin Boxers?* Alito's my favorite Barian (Thank God we *FINALLY* got some support 2 months ago!).
*Reason I wanna run Raid Raptors?* Shun/Shay was a GOAT in Arc-V for me.
*Reason I wanna run Morphtronics?* Because the male twin had me sold with having a deck of Robots in Disguise.
BROO I play anime decks almost exclusively XD
I main fluffals bc I arc-v was my time and I thought he was so cool, and I also have a cyber dragon deck, a blackwing deck, and tons of others in md just because I loved the characters when I saw the show!
As a fellow anime enjoyer, I have to ask. When people say they like playing an anime archetype, do they generally mean they like playing it pure like in the anime, or they like playing it with more competitive combos/engines? E.g. Raidraptor with Phantom Knights engine, Morphtronics as a Link climb combo with Telefon loop etc.
@@twillij29 Depends on what works for you personally. For me, I want to say the latter.
The reason i play earth machine?
....... I just thought machina citadel was neat when i saw the structure deck
And then learned of anna precisely two months later
what do you do now that there's no more Anime for tcg
This is why I don't play Yugioh.
This is why I DO play Yugioh!
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING feels better than using an old deck that hasn’t been relevant in decades to dunk on a meta deck. It’s just so fun to watch the opponent’s sing grin turn to a snarl.
as someone just getting back into the game after only playing mostly as a kid... this feels very accurate lol
Joey slowing going into insanity while kaiba is making combos left and right in just one turn makes this sooo relatable 😂😂😂
the dragoon part was perfect lmao! and honestly this perfectly shows the difference between classic and modern yugioh the game is very combo heavy now a days
4:39 he had been standing there explaining his plays for so long that the legs gave up sustaining his balance.
“You done?” I felt that😭
I really expected Seto to go:
"At your draw phase.."
This is easily the best "Old vs New" yugioh video on CZcams
"You would be running the dragoon package Wheeler" I'm fucking dead
When Kaiba was talking about performing a fusion using monsters from the graveyard as material, anyone else think "Oh man here comes the Ultimate Blue Eyes!"
The editing is genius, it comes from multiple unrelated episodes I know of. And the voice acting was just hilarious. You earned a sub. Keep up the great work.
I'm telling you guys redmufflerman never misses
The homie Lord Jarl. atpQuan
@@Boricua1031 The homie lord antmoney :bullet_postive:
I sympathize with Joey so much in this skit lmao. Playing Master Duel with my real life fun deck really turns into pulling teeth when faced with... I think they're called runicks? The one that banished my entire deck or whatever lmao.
To be fair, *everyone* hates Runicks. Especially when they're used in a stall strategy.
It’s not very reasonable to take a deck that’s probably a decade old at this point and expect the game to remain the same. But yes fuck Runick
Tbf, ANY DECK is teeth pulling against Runick.
You mean one of THE most toxic decks In the history of the game? Yeah FECK that.
@FrostReave for all we know he could've been running a destiny hero deck from 2 years ago. We don't know what type of deck he has
Kaiba’s reaction to threatening roar is priceless
But now it's so usefull again, because Tenpai Dragon.
Bruh I relate so much to Joey here. Like my brother in Christ are you done yet.
This is what happens when a old Yugioh fan (Duel Monsters) come back to Yugioh
(Speaking from experience here)
Joey actively rotting as Kaiba explained his moves at x4 speed killed me man..
That voice acting was great!
Joey could never compete. All the meta monsters are anime girls or dragons and he wants buff warrior dudes.
2:24 and onwards: If I were to make a retrain for each of these older cards to have relevance in the current game…:
_UNSTOPPABLE Battle Ox_ (EARTH)
Level 4
Pendulum Scales: 5⬅️➡️0
_Level 5 and higher Beast, Beast-Warrior and Winged Beast monsters can be normal summoned/set with 1 less tribute. If your Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage. Your Beast, Beast-Warrior, and Winged Beast monsters gain ATK/DEF Equal to any battle damage they inflict to your opponent._
Beast-Warrior/Pendulum/Effect
_(Quick Effect) You can special summon this card from your hand, Pendulum Zone or GY if a monster is destroyed by battle. Cannot be destroyed by battle, and can attack all of your opponent’s monsters once each. If this card destroys an opponent’s monster by battle, you can apply 1 of the following effects:_
⚪️Destroy 1 monster your opponent controls who’s total ATK/DEF is equal to or less than the destroyed monster’s.
⚪️Place 1 Beast, Beast-Warrior or Winged Beast Pendulum Monster from your hand, deck or GY into your pendulum zones.
ATK/1700 DEF/1000
_Swordstalker - Oh Vengance Mine_ (DARK)
Level 6
Warrior/Effect
_Can be normal summoned without tributes if any number of monsters were destroyed during last turn’s battle phase. (Quick Effect) You can special summon this card from your hand or GY if a monster is destroyed during the battle phase. Once per turn, during the beginning of each draw phase, Target 1 monster in either players GY that was destroyed during the battle phase this duel: Until the next Draw phase, This card gains ATK/DEF equal to that target’s ATK/DEF, and also, this card cannot be destroyed by battle by, and is unaffected by the effects of, card’s with that target’s name._
ATK/2000 DEF/1600
The first 2 I’m focusing on battle related effects, to play into old school “Caveman” Yu-Gi-Oh, while making them not too shabby about it. UNSTOPPABLE Battle Ox can help support decks of all kinds of beasts, while Swordstalker, being the vengeful gestalt of souls that its card description says it is, can summon itself easily is the battle phase get’s dirty enough, AND can boost itself from drawing upon the power of any single monster in the GY, while making itself immune to said monster’s effects.
As for _Le Fetish Clown…_
_Saggi The Blue-Eyes Clown_ (LIGHT)
Level 3
Spellcaster/Flip/Tuner/Effect
_Declare The name of 1 Flip monster from your hand, GY or that is face-up on the field; this card's name and effect(s) becomes that target's name and effect(s) until the next draw phase._
_This card's name becomes “Saggi the Dark Clown” while on the field or in the GY. (Quick Effect) If a Die would be rolled and/or a Coin would be tossed: Call the result: If the call was correct, Special Summon this card you Possess facedown. If this card you control would be destroyed or banished by an opponent’s card or effect, you can instead shuffle 1 other card from your hand, field or GY that mention’s “Blue-Eyes” in it’s name or effects into your deck._
ATK/600 DEF/1500
…I’ll tie it to Kaiba’s REAL Fetish, The Blue-Eyes.
The explanations absolutely killed me
I'd like to imagine that after this Yugi FTK'd Kaiba with Jeff Leonard's Exodia deck.
The voicing is actually phenomenal for this!!!
You need to make a version with the entire combo so folks can understand how ridiculous things are.
does the combo have a name?
@@fruityliciousk2704it's just a standard Tearlaments Ishizu combo
@@stoeptegel4382It's not even a long or hard combo either. It's just really effective and consistent. Decks that aren't even that good have longer combos.
@@galaxyvulture6649 You're completely right. Flower Cardian for example, a deck with a long fucking combo, is absolutely trash

This Seto Kaiba impression is pretty damn good.
Crying from laughing. Haven't had one of those in a while. It was so funny I was worried I was going to ruin my recently done hernia repair surgery. You've earned my like and my subscription, sir.
This was soo good! Joey is literally when I started playing Master Duel and saw how the meta has evolved haha
I literally just watched this whole video waiting for someone to finish turn 1...
Brooklyn confusion
When they first started adding all these insane combos is when I noped out lol
For real though, if there wasn't for Duel Link, I would forget half of my options each turn 😭
