  • Hello and welcome to Mart's Garage.
    I decided to pull the motor on my 41 pickup. I did it so I could run the French motor with the damaged and repaired crank. I normally gloss over such jobs, but decided to film it and share any tips and tricks along the way. I also make a change to the exhaust in the interest of making things easier the next time around.
    Thanks for joining me once again in Mart's Garage.

    Becoming "pit crew" service Mart !! ;o) Just like the guys with the top fuel dragsters. Bring them into the pits, put them on stands and disassemble the entire engine between runs.
    If you run across some cheap vice grips at swap meets, it might be handy to have two or three with some short (3/4" or 1" ) pieces of 1/8" angle welded onto the jaws for aligning pipe joints for welding. They instantly line up with plenty of room for tacks.

      Hi Ron. Yes, I tend to swap motors quite regularly so anything that makes the job easier is a help the next time round. Some clamps like you describe would have helped, I'll keep my eyes open.

    i am amazed how Ford used to advertise that they could remove and replace a motor in 4 hrs, i think it took me 3 hrs to get the motor out of ny 36 Ford pickup

      Hi Brendan. Yeah in and out in 4 hours would be impressive. I think it was almost 3 hours getting that one out. Each time gets a bit quicker once the little time saving tricks start paying off.

    Should be zippers on stuff under the hood of the truck instead of bolts Mart.

      Hi Tony. Yeah, at least I don't have to deal with seized up hardware! Thanks for watching.

    When I did mine I took the hood off. Much easier 21:13

      Hi Tom. Yes it would be easier. I prefer to leave it in place though as I am a one man band and taking it off and on is not easy for me. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @MartsGarage
      @MartsGarage  Před rokem

      I made the mats from a discarded darts oche mat. I don't know where I would get another.

    Why don't you just split the manifold it would sound better.

      Like dual pipes? Yes, I could, but it is very tight to get a driver's side pipe through on a 40 type chassis. When I built the truck it was easier to use this type of manifold and just run a single pipe. Thanks for watching and commenting.
