- This video will show you how to make and set two different kinds of bezel wire. I wanted to show how much more work it takes to set a plain bezel compared to some gallery wire. I also point out how the gallery adds a lot more detail to your piece with a lot less work.

last night I ordered $200 worth of supplies I don't know how to use yet and watching this video made me realize I probably need to spend another $200
Lol nice. What did you order sofar?
Lmfaooooo we must be long lost sisters cuz I did too
I spent $2000 😅
When I first decided to get into this, I thought meh, maybe $300 to get started. I did the math the other day. I have $900 into this!! And I’ve only attempted my 3rd unsuccessful bezel.
Good luck girl.
You are the literal BEST teacher and instructor, and are SO kind to give us step by step for free. I’ve been wanting to begin my metal smith journey for like 4 years now, but I have a learning disability and get discouraged very easily in a public setting. So this video is the holy grail of what I’ve been searching for 🙏 thank you!
Nice video. The trick with the floss was new to me. I usually have an open backside on the pendants I make so I can push the stone out. Also it reveals more of the stone and saves silver.
One thing I do differently is I put the pieces of solder on the outside of the setting rather than on the inside. For two reasons, it's easier to clean up and if some solder remains on the inside of the bezel, it can leave a little hump that increases the risk of breaking the stone when applying pressure while setting the stone.
And I really like your saw, I've never seen one like that before.
I also set the bezel on top of the solder pellet that the solder fliws up the seam and doesn't blow away
These are gorgeous! As always your work is impeccable.
Excellent. Thankyou
I just want to say thank you for your videos, I'm a new jeweler and I'm just getting into soldering. Your videos have been invaluable to me and I've learned so much. Thank you and keep them coming!
No problem 😊 and thanks. I have something like 180 videos now so you should be able to find a lot of help stuff in them. 👍
@@GomeowCreations That's great, I'm sure they will help me out with all sorts of questions and issues! Your videos are very easy to watch, you say exactly what your doing without any fluff, although I like it when you tell us what you think about stuff, gives us more info and things to think about, ya know?
Thank you ☺️
WOW is just the word .. amazing!!!
All your comments say how good of a teacher you are and I couldn't agree more! So far the best, not one of, but the best channel about jewelry making.
I didn't know that about brass. The explosion surprised me! Thank you so much for that tip!
Great video! These pendants are so beautiful 😍 🙏🏽 thank you! And yes to another video
I sure needed this video. I have made the bezel, soldered it to a back - and that's all. I have decorations I want to add, but didn't know when. Never made anything like this before so you've gotten me fixed right up! Thank you.
Came here for cool ideas and got even cooler explosions!
Nice video 🤟🏻 love how it cleans up so awesome ❤️
Loved the beautiful job
You make it all look so much easier than it is..great explanation and technique
Nice work ;-). Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I absolutely love your very detailed instructions. Thank you.
Thanks 😁👍
WoW. Those pieces are BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you very much 😁👍
Brilliant video thanks
wow you're so talented
Just beautiful! You are a wonderful instructor!! Thanks for posting, Kristy🤗
Well thank you very much 😀
Excellent video. So very helpful. Thank you!!
Thanks and I'm happy that it was helpful 😊
🥰I find I always come back to your videos they're so helpful... and every single time you have the answers I'm looking for. I'm setting my first pear shape bezel (making owls) and was unsure where to begin pushing the bezel - corner or rounded edge first? Wish I had some pitch tho, (I use double sided tape on my steel block with bezel on top, this allows me to turn piece as I go lol) As always THANK YOU 🙏 sending lots of hugs from across the pond,
Diane xx ❤🧡💛💜💙💚
Nice work, very beautiful necklaces!!
I love the way you added your top ring to the sheet metal for the bail. Such a much easier way to do it and you have the added security of the backing. Thanks for my “Aha” moment of the day!
Haha yeah I found this was an easy way to add them. 😁
Would love a sheet metal and wire video please!
I just need to think of a way to shoot it and get my list of tools together haha
Me tooo
Yes me to, you Are awesome at teaching thankyou
Randy, did you end up making a video of how you make your sheet metal? I haven’t found it yet but I’ll keep looking.

This a great video for me I'm going back to basics..yes I'd love to see how many your metal
This video was extremely helpful! I enjoy your videos every time. So thank you!
Thank you 😀👍
Your videos are really a big help to me. Just as good as classes! You are fantastic thanks!
Well thanks 😊 I'm always happy to hear that my work is helping people.
Beautiful
Thanks 😁👍
This is one of the best
bezel making /setting videos!
Is it really? 😅
Great instructions,thank you. ❤️
😁👍
Thank you so much for your videos! ❣️ I have been wanting to get into spoon ring making and came across your video on that and have now been watching them all and want to do all of it. I was wondering if you would be willing to ever make a video on a bezel set jewel ring version? Regardless, I really appreciate your information and willingness to share!
Your videos are so professional and informative. Thank you for taking the time to upload and share your expertise!
Well thank you for your kind words and taking to time to watch my work and leaving a comment 😁
Thank you very much, after your video I have such desire to try it.
Well if you do let me know. 😁
Wowwww this is beyond amazing, mind blown. I went all crazy making and buying jewelry, made one ring in class with a stone, and am having a hard time on my own. Felt like giving up, but your video gives me new hope, I'm going to try again.
Well if you have any questions please feel free to ask. 😁👍
Good Luck!!
OMG! This video makes so much sense. Easily explained in such a way that I want to make something like this. But it is getting the materials and the such which you provide for your viewers. Thanks for putting this up.
No problem 😊👍 I do suggest using copper or brass to start seeing that they are cheap and if/when you make a mistake it will not cost you much.
Great video as always. I really want to get better at bezel setting. The pieces came out great. I have never heard of a pitch. And yes videos on making metal sheets etc.
Thank you and I have seen pitch around in the past and I wanted to use it for a couple different things and I wanted to share it with everyone on here. I'll me making a video on how I make my metal sheet and wire in the future but I have some other videos I want to get done first. 😀👍
Great instruction! Thank you🔥👑🙏
No problem 👍
Thank you! I took classes many years ago, having a refresher right on my phone is sweet. I just watched a few today but totally subscribed ♥
😁
Great instruction video.
Thanks 😁
Great video. I haven't tried the var so that's a great idea. Love your humour coming through as well in the videos. I'm a subscriber! And yes....I'll have to look for a video of you making wire next! Great job!
Well thank you and I really don't remember putting humour into my videos 😅 but I'm happy to hear that you liked it. 👍
Thank you very much! I never knew how much work there is to make a piece of jewelry! I ordered premade rings with open bezels and I am kind of feeling that I will not be able to mount the stones. Well, I hope for the best. ♥
I had to watch this on silent because I'm suppose to be paying attention to something else lol can't wait to watch it for real when my supplies get here. Thank you so much:)
I am always watching and rewatching your tutorials because I have and continue to learn so much from you. Thank you so much for that!!! I wanted to share I learned a really cool trick for bringing out the colors of labradorite (especially the blues) before you place your stone for the final setting take a piece of black electrical tape and put it on a piece of cardstock or printer paper. Cut it out to the dimensions of your stone and set it in the bezel add your stone to the top and holy cow I am so serious HUGE difference!!! Its really cool!!! 😁
My Favorite Stone & WOW!!
I know I have commented on your videos before but you sir are an artist and this video is great and your videos have and will continue to help me with my jewelry work
Thank you. I'm very happy to hear that my videos have been helping you with your work. I'll continue to try and make more helpful videos.
For some reason I haven't been able to leave a comment (couldn't see them at all for a while!) These are simply beautiful. And I was so surprised to see that about the brass! I would love to see how to solder tiny elements onto a curved ring surface- multiple ones- so I don't knock the others off! Thank you Randy!!
Thank you and yeah brass is a little annoying when making stuff like this. I will have to look into a good way to show how to do that but if you have any reference pictures that would bet helpful so I can see exactly what you are talking about. =)
Another great video!
Thank you 😄
nice one i have never used the gallery wire before i might give it a try
It's worth a try. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Thank you so much.
You're welcome! 😁👍
Sir am already a huge fan of yours!!!!... wish I could meet a person like you.. your knowledge is amazing! You are the best tutor I know of
Well thank you very. 😊
Thank you so much for this very informative video. As a beginner with real gemstones & precious metals, it is really good to watch how to do it right, as too expensive to make errors!..
No problem and just take things slow and it should all workout. For the times that it doesn't work just keep in mind that everyone that does this at every level still make mistakes.
Awesome video! I would like to see you do a video with a bezel that you’ve added bead wire to!!
Thanks for making the video. Very educational. Great clear presentation. Sub'd.
Great video so interesting
😁
Thank you for sharing, Very helpful illustrated nicely
No problem 😊👍 if you have any questions please let me know and I will try to help you out
@@GomeowCreations I'm sorry to bother you again, I'm interested in purchasing one of those, where could I get one? Thank you for sharing your work, I watch everything you put out, thank you

You’re amazing and yes do a video on how you make your own wire. Thank you. Your channel will be big one day
Well thank you 😄 and I will do a video on that in the future. I hope I can continue to grow my channel. It would be awesome to be able to do this full time but I don't see that happening any time soon haha
Great video. Never even looked at anything like this before but you made it sound achievable for even a noob with some practice. You’re also really funny and I enjoyed listening to your instructions. Good job!
Well thanks and I'm happy that I was able to help. 👍
I Really Enjoy His Teaching Also!!
Thnk u for your amazing videos...

Have just started back in silver work and finding your videos has totally motivated me. Thank you for sharing.
Hey, well I'm always happy to hear that. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. 😁👍
@@GomeowCreations you are more than welcome and thanks for offer
Can you please make a video of how to make your own sheet metal? I just recently found your site on CZcams and I love your teaching! Keep it up.
Thanks and I have already made that video

Great videos my bro, been wanting to get into jewelry for a while, these are great guides thankyou
Well thank you. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to help you out 😁👍
GomeowCreations thankyou ^-^ probably won't be for a couple of months but when I do start I will definitely be referencing your videos so any queries I'll put in the comments. Cheers
good job,
Thank you 😊👍
My favourite channel ever
Really? Well thank you. 😁👍
youre the best
Great video! Loved your idea of using the pitch in the pitch bowl to hold everything while setting the stone. Thanks! 😊
Thank you. Yeah pitch works really well for this and it can also be used for a lot of other techniques that I hope to show in the future. 👍
Awesome instruction- to the point. Where can I get that vise?
If your new at jewelry making you should watch his videos. He explains everything without all the fluff. Even if your not new he has so many useful tips. He seems to be doing this to help us and whatever $$ he makes due to the videos he definitely deserves.
Well thank you very much for your kind words and I'm happy that people find my work to be so helpful.
@@GomeowCreations your welcome and it's very true! 🙂
@@tina5670 Agreed!!
You make some beautiful pieces! The stones you use a beautiful too! Any suggestions as to where you purchase your stones?
These pieces turned out beautiful. When you sanded the pieces with the flex shaft what bits did you use? I hate sanding by hand.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 😊
No problem 😊
Another GREAT video! YAY! Did you make a video on how you make your sheet metal?
Hi Randy! Could you make a video explaining more about diamond bits and filing? Or rather polishing?
Yeah I can do that in the future. I just need to think of a good way to do this.
How did you polish them at the end? I love the look with the black in the creases. Did you use some sort of patina?
Great video! Would appreciate a sheet metal and wire video. Thank you
I will try to get to that soon. I'm working on a couple videos now that have to do with tools and some cool tech that you might want to use. 😁👍
Like this? czcams.com/video/Bs0rQJ4ritY/video.html haha
Hello. Super! Very interesting!!! Tell us how to make such a decorative frame?
Hello! Do you have a specific tool or technique you use for getting a smooth, professional surface to the INSIDE edge of the bezel? I get the outside edge looking perfect, but the inside will a few dimples and needs to be burnished. I cant do it with a burnisher without touching the stone. Suggestions?
Thank you again, Randy. Always inspiring! I have a collection of scrap sterling silver. What do you use your scraps for? I hope you haven't already answered this a gazillion times.
So there are a few things you can do with your scrap silver.
1. If it's clean silver aka it doesn't have solder all over it, you can melt it down and roll it out into new wire and sheet with a rolling mill.
2. You can sell it to a silver recycling company. I don't know of any good ones off the top of my head but I'm sure you can find some. Basically you send it off to them and they will send you a check.
3. You can use some of the small silver bits by turning them into balls by melting them. You can use them in your jewelry designs.
That is just a few things I can think of right now and might help. 😁👍
Yes please do make the sheet metal and wire tutorials
I might do that soon 😁
You make beautiful jewelry. How do you market it? Thanks for the brass melting tip. I had that happen with bronze and didn't know what the hell happened. Now I know! Thanks!
I really like the dowel bezel pusher idea. Non-marring. Great tip. Will make one tomorrow!
Great video. Thanks bunches.
I don't really market my work but when I do I post it on Instagram and Facebook.
Hello! I was wondering do you have the link to where to purchase the supplies ? Your videos are amazing and clear and most of all very helpful!! i love them!
Thank you so much
One more question where do i send suggestions ?!
I do have thanks to the items in a blog post on my website.

I also have a page on my website that'll point you to some Amazon lists of tools and materials that I made to help people.

And to send in suggestions you can email me from my website as well.

😀👍
Use a ceramic plate to make beads. No sparks. Angle slightly and beads will roll off to pick up tray.
When alloying place lowest melting metal under or fold with alloying metal at lowest temp till low melting metal (zinc or tin) begins to liquefy and absorb itself (alloy) into the other metals then begin to increase temp and stir with stirring rod. 😉
I am working on labradorite a larger one and making a bezel is hard
it’s been a headache. Every time I get one made it seems like when I get it on the back plate and I’m going to set the stone stone doesn’t quite fit right I don’t like using adhesive so I end up starting all over. Labradorite is a harder cab to set.
I was looking around to see if this is a craft I'd like to add to my jewelry design. unfortunately it looks like too much for the limited time I have...but u are so informative and go over everything so it's easy to understand but not boring. I found myself continuing to watch long after I decided to postpone it. Maybe one day when the kids are older.... I need to watch a video about when that happens already. Yikes
I may be slightly behind the 8 ball but I’d like to know how you make your own sheet metal and wire!!
You can see how I do it in this video czcams.com/video/f43f7sdiMjo/video.html
This is a very informative video. Im at the stage in my journey where ive spent hundreds and need to spend hundreds more to bezel even efficiently. What is disheartening is to see that pendants like these are selling for nearly nothing online. I dont see a way to actually make money doing these things.
Could you make a video about making and setting a square bezel wire. Thanks
Hey there! Is there a video after this that shows how to polish and add patina after pickling??? Your videos are SO helpful!
czcams.com/video/g9hpfLlFJDU/video.html
Please show us more about the open back setting
I can look into that for the future videos
Yessir yeeeeeeee
Very informative. Did u make that vid on making ur own sheet/wire? Thanks.
I haven't yet but I want to still make a video about that.
Do you recommend using easy solder for the back plate? I’m having a hard time with soldering the bezel to a back plate and I’m using medium solder and wonder if that’s the issue🤔
I don't recommend using easy for that part but at the same time I'm not saying not to use it. You can use anything that has a lower melting point than hard solder. So if you find it easier to use easy or extra easy then go for it. 😄
Mahalo!
Ah Crap! I missed out on the discount! I ordered bench tools after your video on "bench tools" but it's ok because if the tools are as good as the prices I'll be happy with Otto Frei!
Lol yeah a little late haha. It's all good. They do have good tools. Also check out pepetools if you are in the market for those kind of tools. I have a discount with them, just use code "meow" at check out on orders over $100
@@GomeowCreations Thank you, I will. I'm sure I'll be buying more from Otto Frei so thank you for letting us know about that one. If a rolling mill is hand made (well there is no name plate or numbers so I'm assuming but looks kind of like a Durston) what do I need to know to buy different rollers for it? Do you know?
Also I would like to see you make wire and sheet metal
I'll try to make that video in the near future, but I have some others I want to do first. 😄👍
If you do do that video, could you please try see the best way to do so without a rolling mill? That has been my greatest issue. It takes me forever to get an ingot to shape thin enough to be pulled thru the draw plate and would like to see if there is a technique that I'm missing to make it a little easier without having to invest in a rolling mill. I am just a hobbiest and only sell to pay for my precious metals etc. So it wouldn't be practical just yet for the mill.
Sadly, I use a roller mill to make my sheet and wire. The roller mill that I use was about $300 and was the cheapest one I could find at the time.
Awesome 👍 work
Pls tell how did u made that other sheet design on it .punch holes
what do you mean?
What polishing compound and tool do you prefer to use? I like that what you are using in the video is small and handheld. I’m new to smithing, so any pointers on that would be appreciated! 💜
Here is a link to the compound that I use amzn.to/2zu04U0
GomeowCreations Awesome! Thank you so much for the link!! 🙏🏻
Can you share what the two attachments you use to smooth the edge of the bezel after sawing it?
this? amzn.to/3jWV4e1
Can I use pitch to set stones in studs with post soldered on it?
Yes you can but you might want to get the hardest pitch you can get.
