In this video we do a deep dive into the production techniques that make Phoebe Bridgers' music so special and connect with her young audience. We produce a song by a wonderfully talented artist named Lizzie Townsend, similar in style to Moon Song and Garden Song off of Punisher, and Smoke Signals off of Stranger in the Alps. This video includes live footage of my music production process, including insight into getting that muffled, distorted Garden Song sound, Phoebe's string arrangements, guitar layering, percussion, mixing and more.

A HUGE thank you to AudioHaze for creating the spiritual predecessor to this video. I couldn't have made this song without his incredible insights. Check his channel out here: @AudioHaze

For some reason the video cut off like 10 seconds early. Oh well, I'll just pretend like I'm purposefully leaving everyone in suspense for when Lizzie drops the full song...
Yo what's up Lucas!! Well done dude, the production sounds absolutely stellar :) thanks for the shout out, looking forward to what else you got cooking in the future.

You and AudioHaze are taking over the Indie Pop Music Tutorials :)
AudioHaze is such an inspiration, thank you!
Great video. Very helpful. Could have just as easily been titled "Sound like Lizzie McAlpine." Love the song.

So cool to watch you go through the whole process! I know nothing about music production but had fun pretending to know what you're talking about. The song is so beautiful, will definitely be waiting for Lizzie to release it 👀
yee-hawww!!!!
Bloody marvellous! 🥹❤ Thank you for making this ❤
you're welcome, thanks so much for watching!
Also your strings playing and arranging is divine ❤️☺️ if you ever need a piano player I would be very happy to contribute ☺️
Awesome video. Would like to add Jon Meyer has just released a free rubber bridge sampled instrument, perfectly suiting this style.
I saw that, he released it like 2 hours before I posted this video haha! will definitely be checking it out, Jon Meyer is the goat
dude! you nailed this. omg! wtf!!
Love your channel so much. This kind of breakdown of obtaining different sounds while recording and editing is exactly what I’ve been looking for as I’m starting to record and edit music.
amazing production and a fantastically unexpected Brighton and Hove Albion reference!
haha thank you! when I was editing I was like "why did I emphasize the word brighten so much..." and couldn't help myself
So proud of you Lizzie, just amazing. 🥲 The production struck the perfect balance of busyness and the strings are so good. Good job guys
thanks so much, I'm so happy with the result!
🙌🙌 phoebe who
ikr!!
I laughed more than once while watching this, highly recommend 😁
cool beans!
love the song, and the part where the tripod falls so I no longer have to see your face!
love you becca
that was the most inspiring music video ever thanks a lol im gonna go make a new music!
I'm so glad to hear that!!!
wtf wasn't expecting the live strings, what a track
A fun one to do next would be Hozier1
Hey lucas, I was just wondering if you could give us an insight about how you mixed and mastered this track? Sounding great, very cool video!
Honestly I don't consider myself much of a mixing and mastering engineer, but I've gotten a lot of these requests so might include more of it in future videos!
Fl studio hang let’s goooo
WOW! Blown away you 2. amazing. Can I ask, how did you do that ending degradation at the end of the outro where it kinds fuzzes out? Automated up Lossy on the master?
Yup exactly, that plus automating the tempo so it slows down! And youtube cut it off at the end haha
Awesome video! Love your stuff. I get so much from the details of how you do things.... If anyone is out there who wants a closer alternative to Lossy that does almost the exact same thing for free (mp3 lossy style degradation) there's a pretty new plugin called "Maim" by Wildergarden Audio., I actually tend to use it more than Lossy these days.
She sounds like Lizzy McAlpine and Phoebe Bridgers at the same time 🤯
Hey bro, I'm also thinking of recording my song writing process like this. Wondering what camera you use to record yourself while working?
hey! I actually record everything with my iphone 14 camera. I'm looking to upgrade eventually but nowadays phones do a stellar job with the right lighting. You'll need to drop probably $3,000+ to get a noticeable increase in quality on a camera
i love phoebe ! ( beside i'm 67 years old)
that's fantastic, Phoebe is the best!
@@lucasfourniermusic yes i'm a songwriter too and she's insipirational for me
one like for bad day
